Crap referees today. Klose shoudn't have received a red card and USA made three goals that counted.

Klose got a second yellow. Now, I haven't seen any video for his first card, but that second one certainly was a yellow. So based on that I'd say the referee was correct.
As for the USA, that final goal shouldn't have been called off. Then again, Dempsey should've gotten a red card in the first minute when he elbowed that Slovenian.

The first foul was a really light yellow. And the ref gave a yellow for about every foul in the first half.

I think I've figured it out. We need to root for a draw here. Although, I'm not that sure.

Hee. We should, although, I will not be watching any of those damn 4am games. I value sleep.

So, England did go with a new keeper. I will volunteer to show Green around the US should he choose to move.

I'm not a soccer or math genius, but I think a draw would work well for the USA.

Assuming USA beat Algeria, if these two tie right here and now, USA would advance no matter the outcome of England/Slovenia.

I think. :)

I really enjoy Martin Tyler's work, FYI.

He does the EA game too. I like him. I also like Tommy Smyth even if he's a little nuts. Every American soccer announcer I've ever heard sucks balls. Alexi Lallas has to go as well.

And Steve McManaman has the coolest name ever. It translates "Son of Man - A Man." Dude. That's awesome.

Surprising first 1/2. Hats off to Algerias goalie thus far

all of the above

only just come in to this match and really suprised that England seem to have missed a basquillion chances to score

Outsider have you come down from planet laker yet :)

 that laker game probably shortened my life expectancy a bit

Dayuuum!!! I hope USA can finish the job that England couldn't!!

I hope that ref from Mali during the Us/Slovenia game isn't in on some west African conspiracy :shifty: :giggle:

England could not beat Algeria!

I have to say that Algeria looked quite solid. Not outstanding, but solid. Good positioning, often finding the free player and being able to bring the ball forward quickly. Then the lack of creativity and quality showed though, as they didn't become very close to the English goal.
And England? The less said the better. Disappointing. :tsk:

England have a big problem. Rooney is out of form, Heskey sucks, Lampard was invisible... Only Gerrard played decent.

How can you even tell if Rooney was out of form? He touched the ball on so few occasions in his own half it's hard to even tell. What in the hell are Lampard & Gerrard doing? If I'm Capello, I play this line up for the next game.

..........James

Johnson Dawson Terry AHole

Lennon Barry Lampard JCole

..........Gerrard

.......Rooney

Attack, attack, attack

So the prospect of Algeria advancing over England and the US has become a real possibility?
I hope this scenario won't become a case of "be careful what you wish for" if the US can't beat algeria :yikes:

Maybe the English have the French disease? Nothing gels. Does anybody know where these players normally play on their professional teams? Maybe they haven't figured out the right combination.

Gerrard & Lampard have never been able to play very well and that's where they're breaking down. I dare any of you to think of a time when England played the ball through the midfield with any sort of fluid passing today.

You can't. It never happened.

Push Gerrard up into "the hole". Let Barry (who looked decent today even after the injury) and Lampard try to figure out the midfield and have Lennon & Cole play on the wings with our full-backs. Speaking of which, where in the hell were our fullbacks today? I can't remember the last time I saw an English team with FB playing that tentatively. Overlapping the fucking runs!

yep, algeria can advance with a win...

points:
Slovenia - 4
USA - 2
England - 2
Algeria - 1

If algeria wins and slovenia can get a tie. both the US and england don't advance. that would be very interesting...

So if the US wins and England wins it would go to goal differential then right?

This will be me on Wed. :panic:  :panic:

yes. that's next.

for those looking ahead. the US is in group C, they match up with group D in the knock-out round:

Germany - 3 pts
Ghana - 3 pts*
Serbia - 3 pts
Australia - 0 pts*

* play tomorrow

1c plays 2d
2c plays 1d

stole this again from tbl:

Tiebreaker Criteria
1. Goal Difference
2. Total Number of Goals
3. Head to Head
4. Draw Lots

The U.S. advances by winning against Algeria, or drawing if England and Slovenia draw and England does not outscore the U.S. by two goals.

The US wins the group if they beat Algeria and…

England beats Slovenia by a lesser margin or an equal margin with fewer total goals

or

England and Slovenia draw and U.S. wins by more than one goal or ends up with more total goals than Slovenia.

If any teams end up tied on points, goal difference, total goals, and head to head record, FIFA would draw lots. The U.S. has equal head to head records with both England and Slovenia.

Algeria

still no official word on whatever the hell that USA goal was disallowed for.
In light of Algeria only managing a draw against England, it
makes the last round of matches droolworthy...
