it's an understood risk when you use priceline or any of these discount ticket sellers that if something happens you're gonna be screwed... which is why a lot of them offer travel insurance for a fee, which of course none of us take.

Travel Insurance from Priceline or any other airline or travel service (hotwire etc.) only cover very specific events that would cause you to cancel, i.e. an illness (your's not Bono), becoming unemployed, a terrorist act in your departure city, a natural disaster that disrupts travel in your departure or destination city etc. Unfortunately, a concert being cancelled in your destination city is not one of them. I guess you could argue that the concert cancellation is a natural disaster or act of God, but you might have trouble convincing the insurance company of that.

So in this particular case Travel Insurance wouldn't have helped at all.

My flights, hotel and rental car were through Priceline. Might not do that again after the Customer NO-Service.

For my Oakland flight, they said "sure we can rebook but there will be a $150 fee". Ummm... The flight itself was around $150. So really, they are doing nothing to help so much.

It is what it is. And in the case of the travel issues - it sort of sucks.

But to me, just glad to hear that Bono is okay and should recover with time. That is what is most important.

There's also two versions of Priceline - the regular booking engine, and the name-your-own price bidding side. The fact that they said sure, you can re-book, for $150, means you probably did not do the name-your-own price thing because they would've told you flat out no changes (as per agreement when you booked it originally). If that's the case (and even if it is through the bidding side), then the $150 is the fee imposed by the airline to change the booking, not Priceline's.

you can get travel insurance from an outside vendor with "cancel for any reason" for under $50 bucks to cover your entire trip... flights, hotels, rental cars, etc. etc.

This is exactly where I am. But I bought the travel insurance for my trips because I was unsure of my job, and if I had gotten laid off, I'd have had some way to cancel all my plans. It never entered my mind that the concerts would be canceled... :(

That might be true but you implied in your original post that it was the travel insurance offered via Priceline (or Hotwire or an Airline) that most people don't choose to buy. All these companies use an outside carrier also, but there are very specific conditions where the insurance will actually help. What you're saying now is not to use the the easy check box that's offered while you're booking but via an outside vendor that's independent from Priceline, Hotwire etc.

true enough... i should have been more specific.

But he still has to "carry" it.

It will be tough seing Bono without his famous green guitar. I loved the energy he put into playing NLOTH - even if you could hardly hear him most of the time

so they can make a fake plastic version for him to carry 'cause it doesn't have to make any actual noise anyways.

anyone else wondering how U2 was doing "tour prep" when the edge was in NYC when the surgery took place?

Oh wow! I hope they do make it to the other parts of the world.

If US will be April - May, I may have to switch my Ireland plans to September, which I may have already had to do anyway.

That would work out pretty well. :)

I have to admit - I'm over being bummed and am now getting excited for next year. Maybe different songs... maybe new songs?

Also, I think for next year's Seattle show, I might suck it up and do the GA line and be close. Who knows if it'll be the last time they tour? Maybe it's time to treat every tour as possibly their last. I want one more time at being close to the stage.

.... subject to change, if I get annoyed by GA drama between now and then.

I think they should reschedule the postponed shows first before adding more cities, in the US. Almost all of the shows that are postponed have not had a show yet and they should get priority over cities that were played already. Same thing with the other SA and Australia, they should be booked first.

But it's not like they were going to play US dates in February and March anyway, with outdoor stadiums and unpredictable spring weather.

I see no problem with them adding dates in other parts during those US inclement weather months.

Concerts In North America in April is too early.

Weather would be an issue...outside of California,of course.

That's what I meant. I just worded it wrong. They should schedule South America and Australia first.

I just meant any additional US dates in places that were already played should be last priority. It's just my opinion.

"Preparation" means Bono's personal physical preparation, as in: workout, training, maybe physical therapy. I don't think Bono needs the rest of the band for that.

Edge had just returned to the US, they were in Cannes together last week. Before that, they had rehearsed in NY where they had spent the last couple of months.

Bono went from Cannes directly to Munich and into the hospital. I'm sure he'd rather accompanied Edge to the US.

but honestly... any money lost because of this should be a "fuck" moment, not a "i'm fucked" moment. it should suck that you lost hard earned money and nothing more. maybe you have to not go out for a couple of weeks or something. but if you're spending your money on tickets, planes and hotels to the point where if you're out the money from this you're going to be struggling to get by for a few weeks (or longer) then you probably need to readjust your priorities in life.

if you spent all your extra money on this and now would have to sink into debt or put your family in a bad financial situation because of this... don't fucking spend the money again!

Thank you for telling us all how we should feel, how we should have spent our money, and how we should spend our money in the future. Very helpful.

Yeah, then California, Texas ... hopefully they just don't lump all of the west coast into "warm areas," because Seattle in April would likely not be prime outdoor weather. :yikes:
