Yikes. Totally skipped that one. The Lady Friend saw it and didn't like it much either, and she worships at the altar of Kevin Spacey. That guy clearly doesn't give a shit about film acting anymore.

Spacey makes a great "who the fuck are you and why are you talking to me" face, though.

Went back to this video store that's going out of business (my third trip), because the copy of Argento's Deep Red didn't work in any of the three DVD players I tried. Which really pissed me off, because I've never seen it and it was a great find. So I exchanged it and picked up a couple more.

I've never seen Alien3, so figured $5 for the 2-disc set was a good deal. Anyone familiar enough with this to know if the special edition is better to watch first? It was my understanding that Fincher didn't approve the original cut, and I don't think he had a hand in the later one, either. He's not on the commentary, either.

I also found the 1988 TV version of The Bourne Identity starring Richard Chamberlain, a.k.a. star of almost every miniseries from like the late 70's to the late 80's. Apparently fans of the source material consider it a much more faithful version, which isn't surprising. It also runs three hours and has more time to dive into the book's subplots as well. Looking forward to seeing this and enjoying it as a separate entity; the story itself is cool enough to support both versions, I imagine.

I also decided to download The Young Victoria and James Gray's Two Lovers in my year-end rush to the finish. I've heard a great many enthusiastic things about the latter. Not to much the former. But Slant, for what they're worth, called T.L. the second best film of the year.

Yeah, I really, really need to see Two Lovers. Especially as I seem to be one of the few remaining Paltrow fans (and even my loyalty is hanging by a thread because of the Cockplay connection).

Her performances in Royal Tenenbaums and Shakespeare In Love will keep me a life long fan of hers. I've gushed about SIL before and I think her character in Tenenbaums is my favorite in that movie. She's very good in Talented Mr. Ripley, too.

The Iron Man movies? Maybe not such a great choice. But I still really like her.

I may or may not be watching The TREK! for a second time tonight. I will say though that I am perfectly content with the rebooted timeline the way they handled it here. I would have also been more or less fine with a pure rewrite and start from scratch. It's not like the TOS chronology is just going to disappear forever. I really enjoyed the fresh atmosphere and vibe this new film introduced. It's a compelling modern vision of the TOS universe, and I'd like to see a number of great films made in this series. Only problem is that Abrams seems content with keeping Tweedle-Dumb and Tweedle-Dumber on writing duties. Fuck those talentless cunts.

Well I watched it. Feel the same. Fun distraction as Laz put it. Just like after the first time I watched, I'm left hungry for a sequel, I know that much. Dial down the ritalin and hire a half-intelligent writer and you'll have a darn good Trek film on your hands.

The Young Victoria was mindnumbingly worthless. Blech. You're only 1 for 2 so far, Apparition. And I imagine Boondock Saints 2 is pretty fucking bad too. What gives?

Kurtzman/Orci can suck it. I think one or two of the guys from Lost are more involved with the story next time around.

That surely be a blessing.

And while I'm on the Apparition subject, I'm downloading Black Dynamite as we speak. Should be fun.

I've told myself that I'm going to watch Once Upon A Time In America and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly before they get taken off of Netflix's streaming on Friday. I guess I have a nice 7 hours of movie watching ahead of me.

Which to do first....

Still not sure why you bothered with that. It didn't look good, aside from Emily Blunt. Which isn't enough to get me to watch it.

Yeah, me either. I thought it might have at least been worth the hour and a half it took to watch it... it wasn't.

Black Dynamite on the other hand... wow. Easily the funniest film of 09. I'm kind of surprised how much I loved this.

That Amazon.com-shilling whore Hercules over at AICN said there might be a major Blu-Ray sale on some kind of Lost DVD set at 2pm PST today. I only have Season 2 right now so this would probably be a smart purchase for me. If it's that Dharma Initiation thing I probably won't bother. It looks cool but I'm not spending a bunch of money just for one season's set.

Here's the link, but it's not going to have any info until the go time:

#3: In the Mood for Love | Reverse Shot

I've posted a few others from this issue. Anyone else following? I'm guessing The New World is #1. As for #2... maybe Drive Mulholland, though I'm not sure how Reverseshot feels about Lynch. Hmm. Other possibilities would be Kill Bill, Lost in Translation, or Punch-Drunk Love.

No way in hell is Kill Bill taking #1.

I'd be pretty surprised at Lost in Translation as well.

I'd be surprised at either of them as well, those are just two others I pulled from the top of their earlier "year end" lists that haven't made an appearance yet. They probably won't. The New World is probably a lock for #1, so I'm just curious as to what's coming next.

So, I'm watching Public Enemies. And I'm not quite sure why people didn't like it.
