Went back to this video store that's going out of business (my third trip), because the copy of Argento's Deep Red didn't work in any of the three DVD players I tried. Which really pissed me off, because I've never seen it and it was a great find. So I exchanged it and picked up a couple more.
I've never seen Alien3, so figured $5 for the 2-disc set was a good deal. Anyone familiar enough with this to know if the special edition is better to watch first? It was my understanding that Fincher didn't approve the original cut, and I don't think he had a hand in the later one, either. He's not on the commentary, either.
I also found the 1988 TV version of The Bourne Identity starring Richard Chamberlain, a.k.a. star of almost every miniseries from like the late 70's to the late 80's. Apparently fans of the source material consider it a much more faithful version, which isn't surprising. It also runs three hours and has more time to dive into the book's subplots as well. Looking forward to seeing this and enjoying it as a separate entity; the story itself is cool enough to support both versions, I imagine.
