Hahaha your mom is smart. Good for going to take kitty to the vet. The vet will hopefully asses the age of the cat, maybe deworm it, see if it has any problems, and hopefully educate you on spay/neuter etc.

Just come here to ask questions.. we've all had cats for many years and can probably answer just about any questions.
I was afraid she was going to have a host of problems, but the only thing the vet found was ringworm. He gave me some type of antifungal cream and a shampoo/soap. He also told me to bleach the blankets I'd used the night I brought her in, and to vacuum/sanitize the den where she slept. I did all of that this weekend. We have to go back in two weeks to check the progress of the meds. The vet said he might have to put her on a once-a-month antifungal pill or use an injection if the condition has not improved. He said her condition was not the worst case of ringworm he'd seen, but I still need to be aware of my options just in case.

I read through this entire thread making notes and writing down questions to ask the vet. Shoot, I always ask a bunch of questions when I go to my doctor or dentist....my pet's health is equally important to me and deserves the same attention:hug:.

Interference rocks. Not only do I get my AC and Bono fix, now I can learn more about taking care of my new pet .

I've had to put the cone back on Mia again. :sigh:

She wasn't scratching her neck or ear at all really for the last few months, but the other day when I was home it was really bad so I had to trick her and on it went. It had been on practically all last summer, then I took it off to be nice, but obviously she can't handle it. :(

The only upside to this is she's been more cuddly and has even gotten back to sleeping on my bed again, but I think it's really her just trying to suck up to me so I'll take it off.

What's wrong with Mia then? Some skin issue?

Could be an allergy or so perhaps if it's around the neck. Does she wear a collar?

It's a girl (God I sound like I'm announcing a birth). Every name I come up with sounds dumb. I was tossing out names like Trixie, Foxy, Kitty, Ms. Kitty, but my sister says they all sound like stripper names . The spouse is no better. He's coming up with real names like Mary, Nancy, Karen, Annabelle  . I can't see myself coming home from work or class and yelling, "c'mere Nancy, good girl.:|

Since she had the nerve and guts to sit on my car, I wanna give her a sassy name. Something that says, "I was big and bold enough to chill on this chick's car, and she took me in coz I got it goin' on like that".

She'll let you know her name, when she's ready!

So now Roscoe is sick. :( I can't get him into the vet until thursday. When he licked me when I got home from work his breath felt hot, he might have a fever. Anything I can do for him? I'm taking Will in too, just in case. poor kitties.

Is he eating and drinking?

Usually if they are eating and drinking it's not a huge emergency, so Thursday should be ok.

He's eating, albeit not as much as he usually does. He is drinking. He was right there rubbing against my legs when I refilled his water bowl. :cute:

Aww... That's so sweet!

I think he should be ok until Thursday then. Hope he feels better soon.

Watching the kitty cam -- Marmalade and Kumquat are being little hellers! So cute! :cute:

Yep, it's a skin thing. Pretty sure it's allergies from what the vet has told me over the years. I remember one of the first times I brought her in for it, having to hold onto the table when he said "tumor" then saying it wasn't one. Scared the shit out of me.

She hasn't worn a collar for years (I know, bad cat mom :reject: ) You know, this has been more prevalent since she hasn't worn one. Think if I tried putting one on her again it might help?

She's been ok with the cone.

Maybe a collar would stop her from trying to pick at it. :hmm:

Though if she hasn't worn one for a while she may not be too happy about it.

I'm telling you, I'm convinced the reason she's being so cuddly and nice to me this week is so I'll take the cone off.

She hasn't slept with me on my bed since before this past summer. I didn't realize how much I had missed her doing that. :cute:

I'll try putting her collar back on her tonight. If I don't post here tomorrow, you'll know I didn't survive.

Hm, odd that it got worse without a collar, usually it would be more likewise the other way around.
Well you could try giving her a collar, it would definately be less dramatic than a cone!

Perhaps it's some allergy that keeps coming back because of scratching in the neck, opening wounds?

we are going to take isabella into the surgeon tomorrow to have her look at bella's Mast Cell tumor to see if they can remove it. I sure hope so. It's effecting her right eye (it's right above her right eye right below her right ear where she always rubs her head), giving her conjunctitis every week. Apparently the tumor releases histamines and they are going into her eye.. So I hate to see her like this all the time. If they do the surgery I am gonna have them clean her teeth while she is out.. Wish us luck.. Considering she's so psycho when it comes to the vet..:reject: They all know her as the psycho tortie..

Positive vibes for Isabella.

And for Isabella's mommy too.

well, we got back from the vets and the vet took a look at her mast cell tumor and said she could get most if it. Its a good size one that goes into the ear area (which is why she wasn't 100 percent on getting it all cuz of where it is on her head) of her head so she said there's a chance for reoccurance at some point however its not common for cats for this to happen but there is always that chance. I think its worth doing cuz she'll have a better quality of life plus they are going to clean her teeth too which will make her feel tons better.
So the surgery is scheduled for March 6th.

So I've decided to keep Eva as an indoor cat. We've had coyote and other big scary animal sightings in the past few years, plus she is very timid I don't think she could stay out of trouble. However I'm worried about what would happen to her if she gets out by accident. With my previous outdoor cats, they would scratch at the door or window when they wanted back in.

If she is not familiar with how going outside works, I'm afraid she will run away if she gets out :( How do you indoor only cat owners deal with this?

Sounds like pretty good news to me! I'll be sending positive vibes your way on the 6th.

And now for the important question -- did Isabella raise hell at the vet today? :)

I find a lot of my cats don't want to go outside, but the scaredy cat ones that do usually come running right back. I did have one cat who fell out the window and was so afraid she hid (I have no idea where -- we looked everywhere) for three days before she finally stuck her head up from some bushes in front of the porch and did a silent meow.

Mostly I try very hard to make sure they never get out. Luckily I'm usually the only person to go in and out of my house, so that's easier for me than for many people. I'd also strongly advise you to put a collar and id tags on her if you think she is likely to get out. A microchip may be a good idea too.

This site seems to have loads of good advice for finding lost cats. It even gives specific methods for various cat personalities. I've bookmarked it so if I ever need it I can find it easily.

thanks for the good vibes we will certainly need them.

hahaha.. she raised a little hell but calm for her considering..LOL

Took Meezer back to the vet today. He still needs to be on antibiotics for another week b/c his infection hasn't totally cleared up. The vet doesn't think she'll have to pull any teeth though. :) just a good cleaning. He's acting like his old self again though. :)

Oddly enough, Roscoe has bad teeth too. It's just coincidence that both of them have infections at the same time. (or so the vet says) Both Roscoe and Meezer were strays at one point in their lives. Roscoe had the same symptoms as Meezer and sure enough, the vet looked at his back teeth and gums and they were inflamed.

I need to get Will's teeth checked too I guess.
