Unknown Caller
Opens with the sound of birdsong recorded live in Fez. A middle eastern flavoured percussion loop drives this tale about a man"at the end of his rope" whose phone bizarrely begins texting him random instructions: "Reboot yourself","Password, enter here","You're free to go".

4.12- 4.15. bono's voice like the fly.:drool::drool: yeah only get your boots on i have listen. believe me or not but that's all.

wait, so you heard the single? How?!

I don't understand...are there new beach clips or leaks or something?!?

Thanks to Beal and Mika - you are true fans.

The overall impression is that this isnt the final list and names may change and the order may well be different. Bonos talks about a song called Tripoli which is a guy on a motorcycle, a Moraccan french cop, whos going AWOL. He drives though France and Spain down to this village outside of Cadiz where you can actually see the fires of Africa burning.

Seems a strange one to me - there was talk about a bike in a video clip before on this forum. not sure if this is related!

After the interview Bono drove Paul Rees (Q Editor) around Shepards Bush and played two other songs not named. They have 6 versions of Stand Up!!

Guys there's lots of stuff in the interview and the album was no way finished so hope this helps. i'll keep posting random titbits later.

Cheers, Windylad72

In the clips from Here is What Is, didn't Eno clap a beat while Bono chanted/ranted off a verse and played an acoustic guitar, and then built up some sort of chorus ending in "in old Tripoli..."

Get on Your Boots
Formerly titled Sexy Boots this demented electro grunge employs a proto-rockn'roll riff, but propelled into the future, before taking a sudden hip-hop twist midway through. Feature bono in flirtacious, self depreciating mode: "I dont wanna talk about wars between nations".

I'm really excited about this song.

Moment of Surrender
Georgiously melodic 7 minute song that already has the air of the U2 classic about it, with lyrics about dark stars and existential crises:"I did not notice the passers-by/And they did not notice me". Recorded in one take. This album's One.

Seriously...this album sounds like a masterpiece just from the descriptions....unlikely, obviously, but just sayin...

:hyper:

Magnificent
Slow building anthem with the ambience of the Unforgettable Fire and laced with the wide eyed wonder of U2's earlier albums. Edge here is at his most dynamic. Features the line:"Only love can reset your mind".

this would fit with the theory that the anton movie will have music not on the regular album. it would fit with the video shoot, and seems to be a song that would go well with the idea of telling a story to anton's images. surely just speculation, but seems to fit.

maybe that is why so many of these seem to have a story-telling theme running through them. who knows.

FUUUUUCK..... That's what the lyric was... I've had this song in my head for weeks, and that lyric's from the end of the chorus. I would sing 'Only love can duh duh duh duh duh...."
:D

Unknown Caller
Dallas Schoo describes the song as "one of Edge's major solos in his life - you wont hear better than that on any other song".

Definately planning on playing outside but Bono said he couldn't give details due to Livenation rights..........promises that it will be something not yet done".

I think that solidifies this as being beach clip #1 then, no?

Unknown Caller could be beach clip #1. :hmm:

windylad, thank you SO MUCH! I cannot wait to have that edition of Q in my own hands.

So I think we can almost certainly say now that beach clips 1-4 are actually on this records.

Unknown Caller - Clip 1 - Edge's solo at the end
Breathe - Clip 2 - Ranting verses, joyful chorus, way into the light
Get on your boots - Clip 3 - Interesting that it was really called Sexy Boots first
Magnificent - Clip 4 - "Only love can rest your mind" - Beautiful piece of music

I'm also excited about all the other songs and curious to find out whether there are more than 11 songs on that album.

OMG :hyper::hyper::hyper: All this news on Xmas Eve :hyper::hyper:

But wait? Surely HMV won't have the disc yet? surely it will be embargoed? :hmm:

Merry Christmas to you all!!!

Signing off tonight, the inverviews are ok so more posts tomorrow. I've given you all I can on the new songs.........cant wait to hear them!!

Love & Peace,
Windylad72
