I remember those days. It's funny how younger fans are saying the same thing without knowledge of the irony... I've been saying it for years. There are a lot of fans in here that weren't around back then, and they just assume U2 was considered cool back then, but the truth is, the same exact arguments were being made, just without the internet.

Given Macphisto and all of them dressing up as females, a little guyliner isn't worth all the hoopla. 
1) It's not a one-off photo shoot idea, he's worn the guyliner in that Christmas song video. I'm waiting to see what the idea is once we hear the album, and see the tour. It looked great on that Q photo. Trying out a character talk from Adam in that Q photo shoot video/Bono writing in 3rd person again has me intrigued.
2) Shades are a part of his image, and it's not like he's the first rock star to wear them. To the "but he looks younger without them" folk I suggest you compare the European SIAM or the OOTS video with the rest from the ATYCLB/Bomb era. Being without shades, and especially clean shaven, takes years off him.

Let´s face, if we back to ZOOTV, everyone, would say here, that Bono looks stupid with Fly things and Macphisto... but now we look at the paste and think, that was amazing!!!
If bono creats a new personality for this tour, and he uses eyeliner, for me looks fine, now everyone will say bad things, but in 2030, everyone will enjoy and say that was amazing.
Sure Bono will not walk in the streets with that, sure the eyeliner will not change the person he his and his ideas! Relax and lets enjoy, because I would love to see a show from Bono like he did in the past, not just a rock concert, like the last ones.
