Well, I'm starting to think that the member numbers don't mean a thing. What got me thinking was a couple of lauramullens post.

She said her number was in the 6,000's but her renewal date is in March. It got me thinking that maybe she first joined u2.com as a free member (early on) and then later on in March subscribed while still keeping her original number. Hopefully, she'll come back on this thread and clarify that point.

What that means to me is that seniority as a paying member can not be determined by the member number. In fact, I'm starting to think that seniority will mean nothing on u2.com.

I don't know about the number thing. I have paid for all the years I have been on there. I started when they changed the site over in 2004 and kept subscribing every year since. Maybe they give you a random number or it is in alphabetical order.

But how is your renewal in March? The site changed over in November, 2004, thus all of the problems that occur in November.

I have always feared that, yet I have continued to be suckered into giving them my money every damn December Couldn't tell you when was the last time I took advantage of a "Member's Only" benefit... last year's gifts I suppose. The CD sits unopened, the t-shirt been worn maybe twice.

Well, something is up. No longer is the "countdown" ticker on renewal shown when I enter the site.

I hope they have a plan when the next tour hits.

Last year I didn't renew it right away. I waited a little bit to do it. Maybe that messed up my number. I don't know. I'm going to e-mail them and ask how they come up with the numbers.

That makes sense now. Your number is very good. If anything you didn't lose your number when you renewed late.

I don't know if numbers mean a lot. If I look at my number on Zootopia, I see 87279. I joined U2.com early on (I received the key chain even!). So I don't know if it's random or if I'm really the 87,279th person to join U2.com or the 87,279th person to join Zootopia (I think this is the most likely). Regardless, despite U2.com's obvious hiccups, I seem to have had a lot of success getting items from them. I lost my patience once (during the ticket crisis) only to be humbled later by their excellent service and response. I know - it is surprising. My advice therefore is to give them a chance. Make sure all of your contact info. is up-to-date PRIOR to ordering or re-subscribing.

I'm in the early 31,000s and the only reason that I'm not lower is that I had to wait nearly a week until my Prop code came in the mail to get the discount on the start up. I'm hoping it means something to be a continued subscriber, but truth is I think I'd still be paying every year if the band retired and kept the site going. I know, I know.

I'm wearing my Slane t right now and had no problem ordering another one when I renewed this year (albeit a larger and more appropriate size).

So maybe I'm not nuts about my member # changing. I'll have to check back, I think I kept my original sign up (not sure why about that either). If they've changed things, they do have original sign up dates and can reassign if they decide to use seniority for anything.

U2.com User Number 32209 signed up 12/04/04 but I tried ordering before it went live. I remember being one of the first ones to find the link, and trying it...and posting on here about it...

Ok, here is the deal. I have yet to receive word on the new gift (Boo boo, hiss hiss!), but here is a quick update for you. I have asked admin about the new gift and they are working on it.

The issue between peoples subscriptions ending BEFORE the new gift is announced is that a LOT of you subscribe as soon as U2.com went up, but that was when we were BETA testing. So, the official launch date was late Nov/Early Dec. And I know some of you have accounts that expire early November. Sadly, you will always have this issue, and no I can do nothing about it, call Fanfire *

So my advice is to RESUSBCRIBE and we will figure it out later (as usual). Please check the TECH FORUM for the 08-09 Gift issues thread that I will put up soon.

As soon as I get the FYI on the gift, Ill let you know

Well, I renewed my subscription today... let's hope they don't send me the Slane show again. By the way, they sent me the link that crappy Zoo TV video... again. Well worth $32.

Yeah, I'll never understand that excuse for the renewal gift every year. Wasn't it Fanfire's fault in the first place for putting up a link to join before they were ready?

They certainly had no problem taking our money while they were BETA testing, did they! I enjoy my double gifts each year. One typically arrives before my birthday in late November and the other one arrives for Christmas, so I pretend that my fave Irish boys remember me personally for both ! So surprise me yet again for the new 2009 subscribe gift!

I renewed my subscription last week (it expires tomorrow so I wanted to save $8) and U2.com just emailed me to say the Slane DVD is out of stock.

Presumably that means I won't get a duplicate and I will just get the new 2009 gift when it's available. But I expect (like every other year) that by renewing this early, I will be the last to receive the gift

I joined 2 years ago after the ZooTV gift was announced, it was my incentive to join. My subscription for this year would have ended tomorrow - no gift announced yet - so it has nothing to do with joining during beta testing on this end.

they usually do. last year, I got the slane disc AND the zootv disc. i got my second slane disc today (also with an email saying they were out of the tshirts), and fully expect that i'll get the new gift, too. in u2.com fashion, the people who seem to not get the new gift are those who get nothing at all....people who get a duplicate of the prior gift seem to always get the new one, too.

I don't think they'll do something that is available to purchase. That would be really messed up.
