Bono yelling out "Torino" will get the crowd going, then going right into Beautiful Day will get the stadium jumping. I don't think it is going to be a horrible choice. It sounds odd but I think it will work in terms of getting an enthusiastic crowd response.

I agree about the transition of the new rock intro into Beautiful day. But I don't think Soon would have worked better if they indeed open with BD. It's tough to find a good intro for BD. However, I'm sure it will just rock massively live in concert, so I'll reserve judgement until I hear and see myself.

But I wonder whether the band is actually on stage during this new intro because Bono obviously "sings" these lines live? So will it be: Space Oddity - band coming on stage - new intro or what? I have no idea right now how they want to do that

Beautiful Day is one of their most well known songs. It will get the crowd going no matter what comes before it. Good choice having it in the first or 2nd slot however you look at it
A side note, I thought the BD intro from last summer would have worked great as an opener if it had a longer build up
