Olive---loved your posts!!! I got goosebumps reading them!

What an amazing experience! I still can't believe that I was there. Sway asked the audience if we felt like we died and went to heaven--sure felt that way to me!

I think I started to hyperventilate when I saw how small the theater was. We were lucky enough to be about 10 or so rows back on the right side. When Bono gave the gesture to move up I was able to get thisclose to Adam with just a security guy and equipment in my way. I'm so bummed that I listened to all the radio and record people ordering us not to bring cell phones and cameras--I would have gotten some great shots. On the other hand, I might have been too busy snapping away to really be in the moment and enjoy this once in a lifetime experience!

As far as the VIP's--a group of them were brought up to the front of the check-in line (right before our turn) I didn't recognize names or faces but appeared to be industry type people (mostly men) They were given 2 wristbands, 1 pink, 1 blue and told to go to the blue bus. They were sitting in the first couple of rows at the theater. My husband was cracking up because he thought it was funny that the band got to look out on a bunch of middle aged men instead of hot young girls!

Man, what a fantastic night. I feel so lucky to have been there, I know I'm probably never going to see U2 in a place that small again. Just...wow. The day after and I still don't really know what to say. The whole experience, from the police escort (Everybody on the bus loved that) to the concert itself was simply surreal. The band was absolutely tight, I noticed maybe one or two minor slips from Bono but it was all good! Get On Your Boots hasn't been one of my favorite songs from the new album but live...well, it just kicked my ass. I was pogoing like a mental case. The whole set was great, especially Magnificent (Adam looked like he was having a great time during this one) and Breathe. Crazy Tonight, again, not one of my top picks from the album but I could not help but be electrified by it live...the climax really sent a extraordinary feeling throughout the room. Vertigo sent me into another pogo frenzy:lol:. The Q&A was quite funny (Larry's "I didn't touch her I swear!" was one of my favorite parts), it was great to relax and listen to them talk after exerting that much energy...I was exhausted after dancing so much. Just an amazing night. So glad I could be there with another interferencer! Hope you were able to get that paper done alright, Emily. Can't wait until September!

Olive-great account of the night!!!
Renee- I think i may be in your video and next to Booyah- I got a kiss from Bono right at the end of the line, before he got into his car. It is hard to see in the video.

OK so here is my story....
Got to the back door of the theater about 4pm, missed them arriving and signing/photos by 10 min! UGH!
But, I saw the Escalade and Brian murphy so i knew that was Bono's car and positioned myself 10 feet aaway with the thought that they have to leave at some point and get into that car and I will get a picture, maybe an autograph if lucky. That was my hope for the evening. To backtrack a little, once I was convinced the concert would be at the theater, I purchased a ticket to the Wrestler for that night , thinking if i get into the building, maybe I will at least hear them. I emailed the theater manager Tues night to ask if I could still see my show now that the big news was out and he actually replied promptly with a yes, come on in, show your credit card (to prove you bought the tix) and business as usual. OK.
So back to outside the backdoor- a bunch of fans waiting, maybe 3 people deep, also all the tv stations, etc. i got interviewed twice but don't think I made it on tv. they were asking the general questions-how long you been out here, how long a fan , favorite song, why we love U2, etc. Then people started giving up on seeing them anytime soon and were leaving, the cameras packed up, it was cold and my feet were NUMB (note to self-don't wear sexy, noninsulated boots to U2 show next time). So it was close to my showtime for the wrestler and i had to decide to leave my prime spot outside and try to get in or skip the chance of getting inside and almost guarantee seeing them come out in 3 hrs. Tough decision. I had no idea what was going on out front. I seriously did not know what to do.
Fortunately, i saved a spot for a fan standing next to me (restroom break) and she gracioulsy offered to "hold" my spot while I did a quick check out the front of the theater.
So as I arrive out front, there are lines of tour bus ticket winners going in and a separate line for VIPs. Security said- is your name on the list "yup" i said and he said ok go in and be prepared to show ID. I thought, what the hell, I can always say I'm here for the Wrestler if they give me a hard time. So I think there were 4 levels of security i had to get past and somehow I DID IT!!!!!It was very crowded in the lobby with people streaming in wiht tix, people coming out to use the downstairs bathroom and a beer stand. I just tried to blend in, bought a beer and checked everything out. I realized there were times when the line of security checking IDs could not possibly see everyone and so I walked very closely behind a big tall guy and nobody stopped me. Ironically, there was a line of police right there and I just prayed no one would tap me on the shoulder. i was shaking so bad and i walked into the orchestra section and security says to me where is your seat and he was not joking around! I said I don't know and he said " you can't just walk in here and sit where you like" so i got away from him quickly before he realized i had no wristband or ticket. Upstairs to the mezzanine level was more relaxed and I walked in and sat in an empty seat. The guy next to me said no one was sitting there yet and I hoped no one would show up. so i'm in. Oh my god! I call my sister to tell her and try to take this all in. I look around and in my row i spot another fan I met a year ago at U23d. She is a long time fan, really into the band and I can't believe i see her. So we wave to each other and she has found 2 empty seats in the balcony (2nd row) and so we go sit there in hopes that no one will come claim them. and no one did. so we have front row on the railing of the balcony (Adam's side) I could've touched the camera arm. she actually put her foot over the railing during BOOTS (to show hers). Anyone there prob heard us because we were going nuts and when they were talking about MRS. Adam Clayton he was referring to her (sort of).
it was just so incredible i can't put it all into words and I am shaking as I write this.
I had my camera and got lots of pix and some video clips of all of us singing Happy Birthday to Adam (we shouted that out during the interview before the singalong)
The boys were witty and funny and sincere and everything you could ask for and more.
I think the Maine response was regarding that Bono and the band did not need special accomodations -they could stay in a one bedroom and have done so before-"we've all shared a bed and I'm ok with that but I need to have a sheet between me and the other guys- I'm funny like that" it was a nice cover for Bono not knowing where the heck Maine was. I didn't talk about the music-that has been nicely reported and I can't find words for their performance. So proud to be a u2 fan. So I got many pix and will upload them later as well as the video clips. there is more to this story......

Tripletmom, that is amazing! Well done!!

ReneeU2, cool video! Out of curiosity what time did the band leave the theater?

I'm having trouble with it. :scream:

So awesome meeting you and going to the show with you! A night to remember!

part 2
I RUN out of the theater in hopes of seeing the band as they leave. But now the crowd is 30 people deep so it is unlikely as i am short. i found a spot sort of around the curve of the barricade and did get up on the rail there. I doubted the band would come over to us as it was out of the way. so anyway, after maybe 15 min the boys come out and shake everyone's hand. I pray they come our way and they did. so i shake Edge's hand and say I saw your show inside and you were great and he looked surprised (maybe that I was in and now I'm outside?) but anyway squeezed my hand looked me in the eye and said thanks. it was very sincere. then Adam came over and I said something similar to him and got a similar response to Edge's and then i said "Happy bithday Adam" and he looked back at me kindly and said "thanks." it was heartfelt. So now BOno comes over and I lose the ability to say anything except I love you so much (UGH) and he squeezed my hand AND I JUST DIDN'T WANT TO LET GO so i asked him for a kiss and he gave me one. Right on the cheek. So now I am completely in heaven. i could not have asked for more on this glorious night!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot get all this out of my mind (and don't want to)

To save going all the way through this thread again could someone possibly post the links to the songs again?

all thanks/credit for this goes to DontExpect

audio is not the best. but thats not the posters fault, it was the feed.

to those who said Vertigo was played slow, it didnt sound like that live. thats something on the broadcast end of things.

the beginning was slightly different, but not as drawn out slow as this...the only thing I noticed was the very very beginning. my wife didnt recognize instantly like she would normally. it all happened so fast though, maybe somebody else there picked up on something

hopefully there will be a pre broadcast source come out eventually like for Irving Plaza

Yeah...not sure what was up with the feed last night. I've never heard Vertigo played that way in the beginning and I had trouble imagining the band was playing it differently than they have hundreds of times before...

Olive your descriptions gave me chills :) So happy for everyone who was out there, it must have been one hell of an experience!! Thanks for the reports and pics!

Mrs. Adam Clayton in the house!! Hey Christine!! Here I am. I love your story. It must have been U2 Karma that you found yourself sitting in my row!

Last night was so fun, even without a ticket! I cant get U2 off the brain now and Im sure that was their plan
The look on the employees faces was priceless when I walked in to pay my phone bill today and was so happy I didnt have to wait in line I started singing "no, no line at the Verizon, no...no line"

I cannot wait to see the pictures. Your story makes me wish I had gone down to try to get in as well. Instead, I was up late dealing with teething. :slant:

That was me a few years ago. But I believe anything is possible and you will get your chance.

I still can't believe it- meeting Bono was my goal in my HS yearbook from 1988.
It's taken a while but it finally happened!!!

:combust: is all I can say to sum it up. Very well written account of your evening olive :applaud: And congrats again to triplemom - WAY TO GO :hi5: Glad you were able to get in - amazing!!!

I was looking at your pics, I think I was right behind you yesterday! I got to the theater around 3:30pm. I went around the back, and there was a group of about 40 or so people waiting with the U2 equipment trucks (I saw Joe O'Herily, Sam Suillvan, and Brian Murphy). We waited for an hour, and then we heard the sirens wailing in the distance. About two minutes later, a couple black cars pulled up, and Bono gets out first, then Edge, then Adam!!! They came right over to us, didn't even stop to talk to anyone else in the press or whatever. I was a couple rows back from the people up against the barricade, but as Bono and Edge made their way around to our side, they were each about 5 inches from my face!!
I had to hold my camera high above my head, which is why my pics aren't that great, but you can still see the band members.

I waited til about 7:15 before my feet and hands went numb and the band hadn't come out yet, so I left. What a day, even without tix!!
Great stories from all who were inside too!! :applaud::up:

ah, OliveU2com, thanks so much for your beautiful posts! I was there last night too, but I am either still too flabbergasted or too tired to come up with anything coherent. It was such a pleasure to read your report.

The show was just fantastic. I won tix from Carter on WZLX last week (he was on my bus and up in the balcony--did any of you see him?). I was nervous all day yesterday--I kept thinking that some crazy, dumb thing -- a flat tire or something --would keep me from the show. I had that line from GOYB -- "not right now!" stuck in my head all day-- Not right now to all of the mundane stuff--I had a U2 show to get to! OK, I eventually did get to the MOS--at 5pm!! There was was lots of waiting, and plenty of time to calm down. I was w/ my husband, and it was fun being in that long line waiting for our wristbands & tix with him, wondering how it was all going to work. My brother also won tix (the same day as me, also from ZLX--so weird)! More about him later.

As reported by others, the police-escorted bus ride was crazy--a once-in-a lifetime nutty experience. As all of you other MA folks know, we spend half of our life stuck in traffic, so zooming from Cambridge to Somerville through red lights, etc. was amazing! Getting into the theater was a breeze--and that's when it started feeling really surreal. We're in a quaint/ancient building that's just like the old movie theater in my hometown, and milling around are some of those "familiar" U2 crew/management faces. Those of you who go to lots of shows would know who they are--I just knew I had seen some of them before. We went up to our seats--last row in they balcony, but who the hell cared. Not me! There were two very nice young girls from VT next to us--maybe they're on here--and some kooky guy who won tix from a NJ radio station in front of us. You all will LOVE this--he said (I heard EVERYTHING he said b/c we were in line & on the bus with him too) that he's not a big U2 fan--he likes "harder stuff" like Aerosmith and Judas Priest, but he won these tix and the station flew him and his teenage daughter up to Boston, blah blah. She kept whining about waiting in line and saying "was not worth it." Lovely.

OK--everyone else described the show better than me. Loud! Sweaty! Electric! It's so cool that so many people know the NLOTH songs already--they were so fun to sing. I hung onto every note, every word--it was a warm, fun crowd, and I hope U2 was pleased with it all. I have to admit I loved the whole New England-centric vibe. My brother and his friend has seats a few rows from the stage, & he was the guy w/ the Live from the Paradise album that had Bono gawking. (BTW, did anyone see that--my brother thought Bono looked pissed at first b/c he thought it was a bootleg or something!).

Would have loved one more song at the end, would have loved it if I had been brave enough to smuggle my camera/phone in (looks like lots of people were braver than wimpy me!), but that's it for "complaints." I was very lucky and I'm grateful!

Thats awesome Acrobat!! I think you were right behind me judging by the pics you posted. You must have an awesome camera because those pics are phenominal.

I also like that a lot of you guys seem to know their crew. I have been out of high school working for a year now (working to save up money for college) and have been looking into going to college soon. I am trying to find more info on subjects I could major in and would love to do something where I am involved with music but also get to travel. Im not so much interested in transportation but more the actual music part. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as what to do if your looking to get a job with a band like U2? I was set up with a job to promote concerts through a band manager for an up and coming artist but it fell through last year when the musician had to cancel some of his shows. It would be a dream come true to have the role of say Paul Mcginnis but I cant seem to get a grasp on how you get involved as a manager or the steps to take. Is there anyone that may be able to help who has knowledge of the band?

ok here is the second half of my video of U2 leaving Somerville Theater (well both halves on a better quality video uploading site)...wow I'm so U2 crazed right now, I cannot wait until September! Anyone know when those ticket go on sale?

Awesome video!!! I am in it, at about 2:33 I am talking to Adam and then I saw a horrible glimpse of myself looking on as Bono walks over and I am mortified by the look on my face (my daughter said "mom you look like you were crying. but did you wear something pretty or nice that day?")
Unfortuantely you panned out at my most favorite part (peck on cheek)
