Guess what?! Zootopia is down again!!!

I know what you are thinking..."Who in the hell cares?" This is for the old Zootops that are hanging around in here. I guess you could say that they might be flushing the toilet or better yet, they might be blowing it up! If you haven't visited lately, it was a very sad site. There were very little posts. The place was almost like a ghost town. The only people left in there were the usual scum in the GD folder (leaving porn in there as plain as day in their avatars) , new people that were clueless and possibly scared to death (poor souls), and others like me popping in from time to time hoping to see if anything changed. Well, I think after all of the bitching emails that everybody sent might have worked. We'll see! I'll keep y'all posted!

Well, down is actually an improvement. It's horrible what was done to that site. What could they (whoever "they" are) have been thinking? Yet another good U2 fan site gone--way too many lately! Awful that it's the "official" site. Sigh.

Zootopia went from bad to worse and with zero moderation it turned into something resembling Lord of the Flies. Most of the decent people left. I looked in at it after Christmas and it was awful. I tried to post lots of good posts etc to try and help but it was a losing battle and I gave up. The trolls in there threatened me and my family, made sick sexual comments (and I'm no prude, these were truly depraved comments) and told me what an ugly pig I look like in my profile pic etc. Plus some people figured out how to clone others' identities...*sigh*

I sent emails as did numerous other Zootopians but they were ignored, so on Friday I left a voice mail message plus sent a fax to the Public Relations/ Legal dept of Principle Mgmt's Manhatten offices and sent around a blanket email to all former Zootops I knew giving them the #'s. I don't know if this helped but in the state Zootopia was in I'm glad to see it shut down. Its a hollow victory though

Here is a copy of the fax I sent. Reading it should give anyone an idea how appallingly bad the Zoo was before it was shut down. I'm hoping maybe they'll give it back to the original capcave team or someone else who at least cares about the site. Tiscali's complete neglect certainly contributed to things. Still, I'd rather see it down completely, seeing how low it had fallen. Here is the fax:

To the attention of: Principal Management, Public Relations &/ or Legal Department
From: [my real name]

Dear Principal Management,

Numerous people have been trying to contact someone regarding a serious matter concerning U2.com, U2’s official website, however our emails to Tiscali (who run the forum ‘Zootopia’ on the official site) and Principal Mgmt’s Dublin offices have gone unanswered. Since I cannot believe that no-one would look into such an urgent matter once it has come to their attention, I can only surmise that our emails are not reaching Principal Management, either they are being lost amid a plethora of fan email or they are being forwarded unread to Tiscali as tech problems. Since this urgent issue is defamatory to the good name and image of U2, is in regards to illegal activity, and has been very damaging to their fans, I hope you will understand my persistence in trying alternate means of reaching someone who can help. I have also left a voice mail in conjunction with this fax. I will cut and paste below for you, in part, the recent email I have sent to Principal Management’s Dublin office:

I was a moderator of the former Zootopia and I am writing to inform you that U2's official forum has become a travesty, a disgrace to all associated with it and home to appalling and illegal behaviour. Most members have given up fighting a losing battle and no longer frequent the site, since there is no line of decency the perpetrators won't cross. It is filled with discussions related to child pornography, sadism, bestiality, rape, and other forms of violence and depravity, along with racism and anti-semitism. Numerous threats of a personal, violent, and sexual nature have been posted against members. A technical loophole in the system allows imiposters to clone members identities and post slanderous material in their names….What I do ask, however, is that, as a representive of U2's best interests, you take 5 minutes of your time and check the General Discussion area of Zootopia for yourself. I hope you will consider returning the running of Zootopia back to the original capcave team or if this is not feasible, perhaps approach one of the site administrators of a handful of offshoot sites which have tried to fill the void… As it stands now, the current forum has degenerated into a deplorable Lord of the Flies parody of debauchery, perversion, and violence. It has become a mockery of everything U2 stands for and it is a disgrace to allow this site to represent either the band or the community of U2 fans. I emphatically suggest that if members of U2's management are unwilling to spend any time or money on this forum or even to make themselves aware of the illegal and immoral activity which runs rampant on it, then for God's sakes, have the decency to shut it down! Sincerely, Laurie (lck_tweek@hotmail.com)

Thank you for your time. It is most unacceptable that U2 have become the unwitting hosts of such unconscionable behaviour, I’m certain they would be appalled if they were aware of what is going on. I certainly hope none of their children surf the net and decide to look at their dads’ official fan site. Additionally new members to the forum do not realize what is going on- ie that the people posting such horrid stuff are clones of the real users etc. Laurie

Well, it must have been one of those temporary system problems because the site is back up and disgusting as ever.

LCK, I really hope someone reads your letter and just takes that forum out of its misery.

Might as well just put it out of its misery and shut the damn thing down and stick to interference!

I really hope someone reads the letter because it is really a major problem over there and as the "official" site it reflects poorly on the band.

Even if they were to fix all the problems and it were to improve I'm staying here.

I just noticed that it was up and running again too. I checked out the folders, and it looks like all they did was take out the porn. The site is otherwise still the same. Oh well...THEIR LOSS!!! But I did tell some new members and old Zootops, that just checked in and looking for old friends, to head this way! I'm so bad!

From the crazy stuff you mentioned, yeah, I really hope not...nice fax, as well. I hope someone does manage to get it and do something.

Where in the hell did those people come from? They sound like total loons! . I had never gone into the "General Discussion" folder when I visited the old site once, and so I had no clue what you guys were talking about when you referred to that folder being a crappy place. But now with what you've pointed out...egads. And then I visited the new site once, and it was dead as a doornail. Never checked back in.

If it does go down completely, that's a real shame. What in the world possessed them to come there and cause all that trouble?

But, hey, looking on the bright side, there's always a silver lining-simply means more Zootopians who hated what went on ther, who weren't among the loonies, coming to join in on the fun here! .

Maybe this forum could become part of the official site instead. ...

This thought has crossed my brain as well but then who knows who would come in here although it is moderated and any shennanigans would be swiftly dealt with (I mean would you f**k with Sicy or Salome ??!!?) It bums me out that the o-site is so lame but I have found that with other bands as well the Smashing pumpkins oboard was a disater and the fan one is still going now even though the band is not.

I just tried to get into the site and cannot. And like everyone said, that was a blessing. (I feel I need to check it just in case it would at one point merge with Propaganda since I missed out on that. )

As it was, that site is an embarassment. I would hope PM doesn't know what is going on there and still leave it there. On the other hand, why don't they know what kind of site is there?

Anyway, I don't want to rant. I just wanted to say to LCK that was a very well written fax touching on all the things that need to be looked at. I hope that gets somewhere. It was much better than the old "We just like the old site" stories that were so common after the change over.

U2 doesn't need a black mark on them like that site.

Exactly. If this one did become a part of the official site, I totally trust the moderators-I know they'd do everything in their power to not let this turn into another Zootopia.

I think it's been shut down for good. When I tried to go there, I got an "Internal Service Error" message.

I have to wonder why these people were posting such evil, hateful messages on the boards. Are they trying to bring down U2's good name by making them look like they have total s for fans? Or making it look like that is what the band stands for? It's rather disturbing, really.

I'm very grateful for this site, and for the excellent moderators here. People may cry "CENSORSHIP" when they see that a board is moderated, but really, unless you're deliberately trying to cause trouble, it should be no problem.

Exactly. I know I personally may have disagreed with some of the things that have been removed from here, but the mods have always given reasons for why, and they've been fair about it, and that's that. I respect the mods here. They're pretty cool people. .

No it still up. It looks like they (the mysterious "moderator') takes it down for a time, cleans up all the crap and then puts it back.
