New Album Discussion 1 - Songs of..... - Unreasonable guitar album

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Some conjecture that the song that plays at the Sphere after they finish is an unreleased new tune with a guest vocal

From Reddit:
You can here the full song in this recording of night 3 around 2:07:55
It sounds like it could be Bono on one of the verses, but everything else is definitely not Bono.

I would lean more towards it being a track that Bono is a guest on vs s U2 track with guest vocals

On a scale of notable to pathetic where do these numbers land

Definitely notable - by today's standards, that's more than decent success for a one off single for a band like U2.

Would be good if they could keep the momentum up when the residency finishes. Maybe they do extend it in to January if it buys them some more time for Larry to get back to fitness. In an ideal world they'd have a new album and tour to go for 2024....

Pretty impressive actually... especially the US numbers

#1 Alternative Digital Sales
#4 on Adult Alternative Airplay
and #5 on Rock and Alternative Airplay

That's a strong showing for them.
To be fair Adult Alternative is pretty much their only radio platform now. Straight rock stations are so into heavier butt rock bands that it's not really a place for U2 anymore.
just looked at the top30 this past week, and 90% of them are this super lame nu-metal/rock hybrid mess.

Here tis for Angry

Rock Digital Songs Sales: 7

Adult Alternative Airplay: 10

Rock & Alternative Airplay: 18

Canadian Digital Songs Sales: 9

Canada Rock: 7

Mainstream Rock Airplay: 39

Sweet Sounds of Heaven:

Rock Digital Song Sales chart - 17

Digital Sales (all genres) - 29

Rock & Alternative Airplay - 45

A quick comparison against You're the Best Thing does seem to show better numbers for Atomic City in most regards.

They should really have an album ready to go and put it out right after the residency ends. If they were smart/not lazy.

Every time we got into an Uber or talked to someone we knew previously or not, we were asked what brought us to Vegas and we said U2 at the Sphere and every last person’s reaction was “oh wow, I hear that’s supposed to be amazing and I wish I could go see it.”

I think it's less to do with being smart or lazy and more to do with Larry being crippled

Well that certainly makes sense from the usual band perspective of "we don't want to release an album if we can't tour it straight away." I get that tours are more profitable than albums but with the unique situation of the residency, they have eyes on them and a good album could boost their profile further. Then put out another album in a year or so alongside a Larry tour.

In terms of, is Larry in shape to be recording, well that's where the laziness comes in. They've had 6 years.

The Sphere is probably the best thing they've done for themselves in a while. The single? Meh whatever.

But even some of my friends that loathe U2 have said "but it would actually be cool to see that" even though they usually finish that statement with "imagine if x band played there". Much better than "fucking hate U2" so there's that.

So my friend who has been pretty vocal about his hatred of U2 is going to one of the shows. According to him, even though he thinks they're overrated, "they have some great songs, The Edge is an amazing guitarist, and I really want to see the Sphere." This has turned out to really be repairing their image in the eyes of a lot of people. I cannot believe THAT GUY is going to one of the Vegas shows instead of me, all because my wife won't let me go!

Tell your wife we all said BOOOOO.

My husband has been amazing and has encouraged me to go back for another weekend. So being the dutiful wife that I am, I shall head out again the first weekend of December. I initially meant to go back along with him and our son, but logistically it would be a nightmare. When/if Pink Floyd or Queen go Sphere, I will have to make sure he is there with bells on. I will probably have to escort him though or else he wouldn’t do it since he does not have the equivalent of my U2 crew.

I've gotten the "oh wow, I hear that venue is supposed to be amazing just wish it was a different band."
