3 Irishmen and a Dutchman Walk Into A Sphere - General Discussion Thread Part III

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Considering the 360 and I&E live offerings with the membership, I wouldn't be surprised if next year's gift is something along those lines. For me, the only question is if and when some sort of official release might be out before then. Suppose that depends on how they want to go about it (theatrical run, streaming, an audio version, etc.), but I can't picture them sitting on any soundboard recordings and not doing anything with them.

I just hope it doesn’t meet the same fate as JT30 where they don’t get it out between album cycles and then it gets lost ever after.

Acrobat and Love is Blindness were two standouts. Obviously we got Acrobat on the last tour, but this version seemed even better - two songs where my wife just stood in absolute slack-jawed wonderment at Edge's playing.
I had forgotten what the LIB live solo was like and as an Edge wannabe guitar player lost my mind when he ripped into that final part of the song. Full body chills... up there for best moments along w/Zoo Station intro + WOWY going through the orb.

I'm having a bit of post-Sphere sadness indeed... it was an incredible show and such a fun/active period for the band. Excited for whatever's to come next though!

They should release JT30 and the Sphere shows together - streaming video and audio releases.

Take advantage of the good will developed by these shows with some low hanging fruit while they figure out the next steps
Depending on how it was filmed, a limited Imax release of JT30 could be very cool. There is, however, something to be said for leaving people wanting more. If we’re only looking at a potential year until the next tour goes on sale, they may be better served by holding off.

Any further delays (Larry, producer musical chairs, Trump Deux lyrical boogaloo, etc.) could put an archival release back on the table.

I met a fellow member here on the plane back from the show. He told me his real name and user name here -- but I not sure what his user name is, but I think he rememebers mine as he said "You're Clerks!" I learned he didn't know that my pic is Kevin Smith, the writer/director and man of many hockey jerseys. But I forgave him as he was also a Pats and U2 fan.

Anyway -- he was first to tell me the news that the show being filmed was so that U2 concert could become a Sphere show likes Postcards... When I heard filmed, I thought home release, but yes it does make total sense to make it exclusive to The Sphere.

And an idiot like me might want to go back and watch it.

So to JP, hit me up in the PM or whatever the hell it's called on here.

Also the lady next to us, we didn't talk to all flight, but at the end she had a pic of Bono on her phone when she was 16 in 1987 and she said her husband is also a singer. And that he's better than Bono and that Bono is her 2nd favorite singer. I thought that was sweet. Wrong. But sweet.

I think it's silly if it was filmed just for the Sphere, so unfair for people who couldn't afford to travel to a show so they're certainly not going to travel there to see the movie.

But Dolan appears to be calling all the shots. If it's exclusive to Sphere it would be nice to see U2 and /or their management to speak up for U2 fans. As they at least appeared to do back in the day.

Maybe they could fly fans there for free on their U2 plane?

so i know full well that there's at least one IEM quality recording of a Sphere show out there, and that the taper originally said that he wouldn't release it until after the shows were over.

so, well, the shows are over...

Entitled much? This is the kind of garbage that irritates tapers with folks that don't tape/produce material, and then demand (or in your case, make passive aggressive demands) to release their stuff. If it's that important to you, I suggest you go record your IEM material.

U2 brought their Sphere residency in Las Vegas to a close over the weekend. As expected, the total amount of money brought in by the legendary band is mind-blowing.

Per Ultimate Classic Rock, the revenue for the 40-show residency is estimated to be $256 million. The outlet also noted that 661,456 tickets were sold for the residency. Additionally, tickets were going for upwards of three times their face value on the secondary market. U2’s Sphere residency was a massive success.

seriously?

wondering if something that was recorded in September might be released in March, without calling anyone out by name (it's not you btw) is a passive aggressive, entitled demand? because i'm excited at the possibility of a recording finally seeing the light of day?

think you should lower your defense systems down just a wee bit there.

So your post is just "I'm so excited that IEMs were recorded and I hope they're released soon"?

Don't agree, but sure.

I don’t want any illegally recordings. In fact I’m turning you all in for copyright laws!!!

You’re mad that you’re not being appreciated for committing a crime?

I will post my email later so you can email me first.

It makes total sense. For them. Dolan is a huge asshole. Weinstein levels.

Don’t blame u2. I assume it streams on apple vision pro.

Then in the year 2035 it comes to streaming.

yes. that is literally what my post is.

i didn't take any pot shots at anyone. i am merely stating that a taper had once said that he is holding a recording of opening weekend until after the residency ends, and now that it's over, well, i would love to hear it because, ya know, i like listening to live U2 recordings., and hope he releases it soon.

Kinda how I read. If anything maybe there’s a joking wink-nudge. Zero aggression, passive or otherwise. Certainly no demands.

A quarter billion dollars. Holy hell.

Didn't read that way to me, but I'll take your word for it!

Edit: Just tossed up an IEM of the final night on DIME + U2torrents.

So just 8+ more of those to recoup the cost of the venue. Easy...
That’s total revenue, not profit. They need more shows. Sphere group would probably like to have something every weekend (100+ shows) with a few weeknight shows thrown in a la U2’s Wednesdays when demand permits.

Within the first year (Sept ‘23 - Sept ‘24), they’ve got 68 total and that only takes them into July 5th.
U2: 40 shows
Phish: 4 shows
Dead & Co.: 24 shows

I would be interested to see what the total profit looks like at the end of the current schedule. 12 more open weekends of potential bookings before their first year closes. Who’s next to announce?
