3 Irishmen and a Dutchman Walk Into A Sphere - General Discussion Thread Part III

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I just have to say that it's so cute that Larry wore a suit. There I said it.

Must have been strange and surreal and also sad in some ways for him to watch them, so I give him props for doing that.

Not good news that he's in a boot cast, I wonder how many surgeries he had.

Was searching on Instagram and found this random picture that Billy Idol posted of himself a couple of weeks ago. What in the pointy shoulders kind of jacket is that?

If they're filming the last two shows they need to put that out on the big screen in theaters, it's just meant to be seen that way. Especially for so many fans who didn't get to see it in person. I was incredibly fortunate to be able to see it in person and I would still see it again in a theater.

The CEO of AMC said this week that the Taylor and Beyonce revenues basically saved their business. Yes I'm very aware that U2 has a completely different audience and the numbers would be nowhere near that huge.

They'll probably just stream it. Ftlog don't get in the time machine and put it out on DVD📀

I don't believe for a second the U2Songs rumor that they are recording it so it can be played only in Sphere.

I don't no discount that that might happen, but you would have to imagine Dolan wants this out there, hyping up the venue, getting other artists interested.

A streaming release makes a lot of sense. Whatever happened to that Netflix deal?

it’s an all-around visual experience. They shot E/I with 360 cameras at NJ and DC. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did the same for this from a few positions at Sohere. They could conceivably sell it as a concert film for the Vision Pro, Quest, etc. [RIP Google Cardboard]

A standard release won’t do it justice.

The concert experience is probably the only thing that'd ever attract me to buying one of those devices. Wouldn't come too close to replicating it, obviously, but watching those clips in high quality would probably be pretty great.

Did I hear him say "James Devlin's Nevada ark"?

The bat look?
Guy (pointy shoulders notwithstanding) still looks great. Saw him back in September at MGM Music Hall fenway, still puts on a good show.

Thanks for sharing this. Sounds like recovery is slower than expected. Makes sense as you aren’t going to bounce back as you age.

My best case is he fully recovers and can join the band again. Studio and road.

If he doesn’t quite recover I’d love for him to be their studio drummer. Maybe play live for special events.

I will say listening to Bram live vs Larry (especially since the SOE/JT tours), Bram does add a little more juice to the rhythm section. Part of me wishes Bram would just do his own thing vs trying to stay true to the studio version. Larry’s playing comes across as doing the min required to keep timing. Nothing wrong as clearly his body was and has fallen apart.

But i still would love for him to keep making music with his friends

That clip of Bongo talking about Larry's recovery is from last May. Must be even longer than they thought back then with the walking boot (I imagine that may be something unrelated to prior injuries but who knows, the guy is really having a tough go of it physically).

I thought it was from when they visited the Zoo Station thing in Las Vegas, that's what the line looked like to me. Oops it was early in the morning.

I am interested in how drumming is hard on the mind, maybe for Larry he says that to Bono when it's really Bono getting on his last nerve 😁

Larry will recover, can't imagine he will have to retire. His money gives him access to the best possible medical care and experts. Plus there are other things people can do now, alternatives to traditional medicine. Kinetix, things like that. Crikey the guy isn't 80 years old.

I've said this here before, at the music school where I work one of the drum instructors told me that he wasn't surprised at all that Larry needed however many surgeries and couldn't do the Sphere.

He believes it's because of his style of drumming. He also said that he can't believe Travis Barker is still able to play the drums because of his style. Not saying they have the same or similar drum styles, a drummer would know about that not me.

He believes drummers can prevent many of these issues with technique and style. Of course he's also in his 20's, so that probably colors his views

I am enjoying the security person’s enthusiastic speech to the wristband line that “some of you may have numbers on your hands. Nobody here cares.”
So they are finally going to enforce that at the last show? If they do maybe there will be a sit down protest. That was the 4 am crowd too.

If they do enforce it that makes me even more sad that I had a ticket and couldn't go. Oh well, a nice little beach trip in June before school gets out will help with that. I saw them once and that was special.

Are you in GA tonight? Keep us updated if you are.

I don't think they really enforce it. He said the same thing when I was there getting a wristband.

Can't say I didn't warn em
My god I hope that's not true. Because that means they are so rich they can just do that at the drop of a hat.

Imagine if Larry did try to play the entire show and fucked up -- and we all chanted NEW LARRY NEW LARRY NEW LARRY PLEASE...

And then Larry since he started it, CANCELLED THE BAND.

Only took a 100 bucks to slip Marvin, but it was well worth it.

Also as a Jew... not sure i love the numbers on the hands...

Also, I haven't paid attention to GA crowd size since Headache gave us his thoughts on first 2 Sept shows, but from last night i swear the floor looked twice as crowded as it has been... has the GA crowd getting bigger? Or just that is what it looks like when you're there in person and I'm just dumb?

Also people were on stage before the show -- looks like audience members -- is that some VIP package thing or RED ZONE?

I didn't wear my ear plugs and I can still hear!

Also a couple left about 10 songs in, I don't know if they were VIP or had other seats, but they took off and I was on the aisle but there was 6 seats empty the rest of show... 4 I think never filled... and a few behind them... always sad to me.
