3 Irishmen and a Dutchman Walk Into A Sphere - General Discussion Thread Part III

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

TD Garden (the former Hewson Headache center) in Boston is same. They built while the old Boston Garden was still standing so had to shrink the footprint a bit and made the rise in the balcony steeper as a result. Saw the Stones from there shortly after it opened (No Security tour in 99) and my wife (see above post) wouldn't/couldn't stand cause of how steep the incline was, felt like she would fall over.
I have since refused to buy any tickets for any concert or game in the balcony (did go to one Celts game up their where someone else bought the tix).

I’m from Boston burbs. We had season tickets to bruins in garden sec 98. An overhang btw. And it was awesome. On top of the ice but close.

Also had last row at Foxboro stadium we loved it.

In new buildings those seats are mid level. Terrible.

The old Garden the front of the balcony for hockey games was prime seating since it hung right above the edge of the ice. (Which of course required columns to be built in front of some folks seats down in the old Stadium section.)

I think those of you who were not on the fan list should still cut in front of those douchebags.

I made a post that I'm in Vegas and that there was a bed bug issue because they were up all night partying and causing a ruckus and one of them ran away with my wife, and asked why weren't we warned about bed bug issues in Vegas.

Well, a lot of people think it's a real post and asking which hotel and such.

So to be clear, my wife did not leave me for a bed bug.

I laughed so hard when I saw that. A screen cap made it to the group chat.

ETA: When I last saw it, it had 4-5 responses. Just went back. WOW.

I was even up in plenty of time to go down there and still had zero desire to do so.

About 200 folks by 7am, according to the tweets, so The List ain’t even that long to begin with. Especially given that it’s the opening night show, I expected it to be worse.

Bed bugs are a serious matter and not to be joked about apparently

This fan list though... Am I right in thinking that nobody is cutting in front of anyone? Or holding places for anyone?

If you are on a "fan list", you still need to be in line at 8am in the order you arrive (albeit you probably got up earlier to get to the front). If some random bloke has got up early to get in the Q, you can't jump in front of them?

I believe the list converted into a line at 6:00 AM. I have not seen any reports of arguments with any non list people. I did see that someone that was initially 57 in the list became 77, so that tells me some non-list people who arrived early got in line correctly by order of arrival and not reservation numbers.

From that Variety article...

For all the talk about built-in speakers in the seats that make up most of the auditorium, Williams is enthusiastic about the standing-room area — something that might be called a “pit” if this weren’t such a high-class joint. “Being on the floor is going to be quite something. It feels so small. I was laughing with Adam (Clayton) because we both, for some reason, thought of Hammersmith Palais. It’s much bigger obviously, but because it’s kind of long and thin, the people on the floor are going to have an absolute ball. Whereas the people upstairs, it’ll be more of a kind of a sit-down visual experience. But that’s always the case with U2 shows. They want the energy of the audience close to them, yet they appreciate that there are people my age that might not want to stand for the whole thing.”

I still remember when I arrived the morning of Joshua Tree tour show in 2017. A guy and his girlfriend followed the venue procedure and arrived at the meeting point around the time they said over the phone. The venue allowed them to be up front, and the "List" people tore into them as we walked to where security asked us to line up, saying "they were there before" them and how dumb they were for not knowing "the way" it's supposed to go at U2 shows. It was so stupid.

I felt bad for the guy and went up to him later to apologize for how those people treated them. He was so appreciative he gave me a hug. I just... ugh, it shouldn't be this hard almost every show!

Glad they got to go in first. If the band could see how some of these toxic entitled losers act toward other fans, they’d be as grossed out as the rest of us.

That's the kinda shit that really grinds my gears about this crap.

I honestly don't give a crap that they're exploiting the band's abdication of responsibility here. I'd be a complete hypocrite to fault someone for that.

But just stop with the holier than thou bullshit. You're not doing this as a fucking service to the fan community. You're doing it for you. And that's perfectly fine. Just say so.

Stop making it out like you need a PhD to run the list and that only experienced line runners should do it. Give me a break. These experienced line folks didn't even bring a chair or something to provide them with any sort of shade while standing around in the friggin desert. That's not exactly top level project management there.

You say you are about transparency, but then nobody from "the list" posts the info on the most popular social media group dedicated to the Sphere shows. Because, again, you're doing this for you.

Just say it. "Yes, we keep this crap up because we like being on the rail and this kinda guarantees that. That's why."

It'll be ok. The world won't end.

Did these assholes somehow get GA for 25 shows? Or because this is harder we won’t see most of these people more than 5 shows.

The Boston asshole in me would love for them to yell at someone else that they’re doing it wrong. That is when I shine. Full break balls mode.

I’ll pretend my name is Matt Hewson and I’m Bono’s 5th kid he doesn’t talk about.

Ugh. I have a huge issue with that too. If your line formed elsewhere and by the time it congregates at the actual location where you are expected to line up and stay, and someone physically beat you to the punch, it is what it is. They got to the place before you.

We slept overnight in our cars across the street from the Palace of Auburn Hills for Vertigo in a restaurant's parking lot that was cool with us doing so. In my defense, I was young and I had nothing better to do. There was literally nowhere to line up at the venue and access to the Palace was closed with gates. By the time access to the venue was granted the afternoon of the show, when the line reformed, there were quite a few people in front that did not camp. They simply drove in at the right time. Annoying for us dumbasses? Sure. Unfair? Not really.

People kept coming up to me asking me to take care of it (I had the notebook) and guess what? There was nothing to take care and zero attempts were made. I did talk to security for quite a bit, but only because he used to be a bouncer at a place I used to frequent. And even with that "connection" no whining took place about our fan issued numbers not being honored.

"The fan line for Saturday show has started at the Sands Ave location.
You cannot attend tonight's show and get a number for this GA line.
There will be 1 or 2 check ins during tonight's show and if you are not present, you will be removed from the line. See them for their additional rules."

:crack:

Someone says they got in line this morning at 6:30 and got number 193. Another person at 7 and was 214. I am still undecided about whether I will get a number for next Sunday's show, but if I do, it would be just like this. Roll in when there is a physical line, get in the back of the line and then go off to breakfast. Then, whether I use the bracelet or not will be determined that afternoon.
