Elevation has more swagger and funk than any "dad rock" song that I've ever heard. Weird and inaccurate description.
That's what happens when you listen to only one band.

Oh look, another irrational music snob!

Indeed, reviews of brand new albums on first listen will either be biased positive (especially fan reviews, because the excitement of hearing new u2 can make you think they are the best songs since fill in the blank) or biased negative (as mentioned the albums may be growers). Really the only accurate reviews should really be made years after an album is released. The test of time is the best indicator of an album’s quality.
What makes you think the test of time is the critical criteria of criteria? There are numerous factors that contribute towards the overall picture that is the short view, as well as the long view; however, the long view never forms the short view, while the short view almost always informs the long view.
It's the lame guitar riff and stolid lyrics that lend the song that quality of osteoporosis. Generalizations about the kids at school and the top of the charts doesn't change the music on the record, and the music on the record is a far cry from being a good rock song like Sunday Bloody Sunday, Desire, The Fly, and others.
(And I forgive you Kasabian and Royal Blood because of Arctic Monkeys)
Good and haywa let’s try to keep this thread mainly for reviews, if you want to fight it out do it over the pm. This thread should be for reviews and discussing reviews in a civil manner. Can we all just respect that? It’s not too much to ask I hope!
That's all your opinion though, it's each to their own. Is elevation as good as Sunday Bloody Sunday the fly etc etc no it's not but that really wasn't the question it was about the dad rock tag line, to be honest though I've never got the quote dad rock
take it you don't like kasabian or royal blood then I saw the arctic monkeys when they started out in a swimming bath leisure centre. Was superb .
Yikes! Get ready for a hot take folks.

Pleasantly amazed at how good #U2SongsOfExperience is. Not wall-to-wall winners but they sound re-energized and "American Soul" is their best song in at least a decade.
Blame me, pretty sure I started it by name dropping elevation
Is it December 1st yet ????
Simply not the case with many people. Anyone who has a decent understanding of human psychology knows about the severe biases that accompany first, second, or even third impressions. Long-term analysis and understanding are a far, far better indicator. Not sure how you don't realize that.
Sounds like bro science. But of course you've done your research.

First "dad rock", and now "bro science". So much bizarre and obvious bias in just a few words.
And yes, I have in fact done my research.
Elevation is a song that tends to send this place into a tizzy.
What does the element of time have to do with the appraisal of art? When you eat a plate of food, can you not digest it and form a critical opinion without years and years elapsing? The question is, is there something with your ears, bro? Or just the cotton between them?
Equating eating a plate of food to processing complex music? Where do I even start? I really cannot take you seriously after that. Troll away.

Please, please illuminate us, Highwain.

FFS, the OP has asked politely and several times for this thread to stay on topic. Is that so hard?
To give a different analogy:
This thread was 5 stars initially, and The was valuable when we could find all the reviews. Over time, it has revealed itself to be a bit shit because of the potential for derailment - my review of it now is 1 star.
If we get back on topic, my opinion will change again.
So what you are saying is the thread started like the first 3 songs on NLOTH and at the moment we are somewhere between Boots and Stand Up Comedy and you’re hoping to hit Breathe soon....something tells me we are closer to hitting Miami though
