I simply can't imagine what was going on in their heads when they recorded this!!

i'm going to try to give this a whirl:

red light (the horns, the ladies da-da-da-ing, ick. i love war, but i always skip this track)

wild honey

the playboy mansion (*yawn*, cheezy lyrics)

the gospel revival version of i still haven't found what i'm looking for off the rattle and hum tour

some days are better than others (kind of entertaining, but lacks a certain level of excellence)

stuck in a moment (i agree, it's the melody that's bad, not the lyrics)

grace (i just don't like this song at all)

then there are the songs that i love but never, ever, ever want to hear on the radio again, because overkill nearly ruined the songs for me:

mysterious ways (i do love this song, but didn't listen to it forever because of media overplay)

one (possibly the most extreme case. i prefer live versions to the album version to this day)

staring at the sun

beautiful day

the album version of i still haven't found what i'm looking for

that being said, i think it's hilarious that some of my favourites are on other people's worst songs. how does one hate heartland? and ultraviolet? and nearly all of boy and october and war? everybody's different, and that's why these threads are so fun.

1) Miami (This is the only U2 song I can honestly say I hate)
The rest are in no particular order
2) The Ocean
3) With A Shout
4) Fire
5) When Love Comes to Town
6) New York (Love it live, but I never got into the album version)

And that's all I can think of.

Stuck in a Moment
Babyface
Trying To Throw Your Arms Around the World
Bullet the Blue Sky (does nothing for me unless it's live; I always skip it on JT)
4th of July (can we say waste of space?)
and probably some from October since honestly I never listen to that album and don't know by heart the lyrics and melodies.

Lemon (I walked away from U2 for almost a decade because of this song. Gaaaaahhhh.)
Grace
Miami
Zooropa
Babyface
Playboy Mansion
Two Hearts Beat As One (this song has annoyed the hell out of me since forever)
Stuck In A Moment
Sweetest Thing (I have NEVER dug the falsetto)
and maybe because of the overplayedness of it, ISHFWILF. BLEAURGH.

1. Miami
2. The Ocean
3. The Refugee
4. Red Light
5. Babyface
6. When I Look At The World
7. Elevation, most of the time

I can't listen to most of October, either.

Well, I'll discount the first three albums because I honestly don't like Bono's voice as much and I haven't listened to all of the songs multiple times.

Angel of Harlem - OK this song does nothing for me. I honestly don't understand the appeal. Not very good.

When Love Comes to Town - I don't like blues and I don't like this. I also don't like Bono singing with B.B. King.

Pride - I never listen to this on the album and I rarely listen to it live. I just find it boring. I'm not sure why.

Bullet the Blue Sky - Good live but bad on the album. It's boring on the album!

Zoo Station - Bono's voice should not be distorted. It just sounds... I don't know. I don't like it much at all. I like the bridge though.

Babyface - Bono singing about pornogography doesn't appeal to me

The Wanderer - Bono please!! I love the lyrics though.

Last Night on Earth - I can't really point this one out. I just don't really like the tune of the verse or the chorus much. I like the bridge though. The music video is also entertaining.

Wild Honey - I don't like the style at all. I don't know... It's ok sometimes, depending on my mood. It's not bad really... I just don't listen to it much.

Peace on Earth - Ewwww I don't like the lyrics. I don't like these 'why is everything going wrong God???' songs. They annoy me.

I can't understand some of your guys' choices (although the feeling is probably mutual)!!!!! Miami?? I love this song. Stuck in A Moment?? One of my very favorites. Playboy Mansion is one of my favorite U2 songs and definitely one of my top three from Pop. I think this song is incredibly underated. Grace is also beautiful. Bono's voice is wonderful in it and the lyrics are great too. Sucjh an uplifting song.

Hmph...

I cant believe how often 'Hand that built America' and 'Miss Sarajevo' have appeared here! I love em'! Oh well. I canonly pick a couple of tracks that I really cant listen to...
'Red Light'
'Miami' and 'Elevation' I love it when I hear it live, or on my own, but I cant stand listening to drunks going "WHHHHHOOOOOHOOO" ANYMORE!!

Maybe that's the way you interpret it, but I see it as a song about how the media turns viewers into voyeurs. That said, I'm still not keen on the song.

It baffles me how some people hate Bono's voice on the first three albums. Besides the Lovetown tour, his voice has never been better than then! It's full of all the energy and passion of youth, and I really cannot fault it, especially not on classics like Twilight or New Year's Day.

 I agree! I fell in love with Baby Bono's voice on the New Year's Day video. Clear, youthful, energetic and passionate as you said, and so unique and beautiful!

The songs I skip:

Miami
Wild Honey
The Playboy Mansion
Lemon
Some Days are Better Than Others
The First Time
Elvis Presley and America
Trash, Trampoline and the Party Girl (I love the Red Rocks version; but the one on Best Of 1980-1990 B-Sides is off-key and Bono sounds a bit tipsy!)
The Refugee
Twilight

Discotheque
Do You Feel Loved?
Mofo
Last Night On Earth
Gone
Miami
Please
Holy Joe
If You Wear That Velvet Dress
Wake Up Dead Man

Cheers,

J

bottom one

from a lyric standpoint i think playboy mansion and miami are brilliant. one song that i really cant stand though is stuck in a moment. it just doesnt seem like a u2 song and well ...........i really dont know.

I don?t understand most of you why are you guys even here when you hate some of their greatest work.

First thing?s first - Almost all of ?Zooropa? (excluding perhaps the wanderer) is a complete genius work. ? No ifs - No buts - GENIUS

And I never had a problem with any of the songs of POP, I liked both ?Miami? and ?Playboy Mansion?.

?Elevation?? Why do people hate this song? If there ever was a song to get you pumped up for anything?it?s ?The Fly? for the new century. Also anyone with ?When I Look At The World? on their list should just smash their stereo right now and give up. Just listen to this song, the guitar, the lyrics?..this song means so much to me.

I like most of their older stuff but there is some stuff on October that gives me the shits a little, so much so that I don?t even know the names of the tracks that I don?t like.

Someone said in this thread: ?New York (Love it live, but I never got into the album version)? WTF? The album version is almost exactly the same as the live version (in boston) the differences are so minimal that even I can?t tell the difference most of the time. Maybe it?s time to put that pipe down man.

Someone also said ?the gospel revival version of i still haven't found what i'm looking for off the rattle and hum tour? Just stop, really, just stop.

HMTMKMKM I?ll never love this song (it was better live) but I like it and i?d never say it was one of u2?s worst.

Heartland? Give me a break this song can only be descried with the word - beautiful

That being said the songs I really have a problem with are

?Wild Honey? ? What in gods name where they thinking when they came up with this trash. The start of the song almost hurts my ears, I?ll never understand this song. ?Peace on Earth? and ?Grace are the others off this album I have some problems with but only because they are slow and a little boring

?Elvis Presley And America? ?This is one strange disjointed out of focus song, but meh at least it doesn?t hurt, like wild honey?..lets all jump on wild honey, stupid wild honey.

Lets see, I love most of there stuff (Why is everyone hating Lemon? Anyway...

1) Red Light
2) Grace
3) Wild Honey
4)some days are better than others
5)july 4th
6) elvis and america..
7) light my way
8)sweetest thing
9)miami
10) where the streets have no name....just kiding umm never been a huge fan of desire.

I do not understand all these people saying Elvis Presley And America. Do you even know the story of this song? It was recorded in A SINGLE TAKE. Bono went in there with no lyrics, sung for a few minutes, and that was it. Considering that, it is PURE GENIUS.

On the topic of studio Party Girl ... I think Bono had a cold and they recorded it in a single take too!

Is anyone else as BAFFLED as I am by reading this thread? Most of you guys are all mad! I am reluctant to say this, but most of your opinions are 'wrong,' if there is such a thing. If I didn't know the title of this thread, the only thing that would distinguish the title of 'best U2 songs' and 'worst U2 songs' will be Grace. Grace is the only shit song out of everyones choices. Let me tell you why you guys are wrong (many of you people must not know U2 very well by some of the choices you are making.)

Elvis Presley and America : My second favourite U2 song of all time! Am I the only one who gets this song? You have to listen to it a few times, Bono's voice sounds so strained and yet its magnificent. I get so many shivers down my spine when listening to this song, the melody is fantastic and the ending is brilliant.
(BTW my favourite U2 song of all time is Bad)

The First Time : When I saw people post this, I knew they must have been shit faced. This is one beautiful song. Especially the melody change with the 'Yeh I threw away the key.....'

Bullet the Blue Sky : GREAT rock song, especially live with the solos.

Pride : No comment

Wire : Once again one of my favourites, a brilliant rock song

Last Night on Earth : This is the best song off Pop and I can't get enough of it. Listen to it on Popmart live from Mexico and tell me it sucks.

Heartland : This is the best song off Rattle and hum and I am in love with this song. Especially the riff, it always gives me chills down my spine.

Drowning Man : Argh, I hate some of you guys lol

Zoo station : This is the song that got me into U2, and is a brilliant rock song, this will be my 4th favourite song of all time.

Two Hearts beat as one: GRRRRRR!!! Your just lucky Bono's not here!!!

A Day without me : Whoever listed this song, I can recommend you to a psychologist.

Wake up dead man : I cant be bothered going through why its fantastic, BUT IT IS!

Ok thats all I can be bothered listing, virtually all of your choices you listed as the worst U2 songs are 'incorrect.'

Some songs that DO make sense to have in your lists however, are :

Grace, Love rescue me, Miami, Playboy Mansion, Elvis Ate America, United colours

As for the rest...

crikey, "Elvis Presley and America" is one amazing tune, really takes you to another place, its got great lyrics and a great tune, not remotely cheesy or naff, the songs that really hurt, as we all know.

Pride = Legitemate contender for BEST song, not worst.

Wire = Excellent, 4 minutes of pure U2 craftsmanship.

Three Sunrises = Listen to this song on a cold, sunny morning before going to college/work. Another really classy tune.

Drowning Man = Simpletons....... another highly charged tune.

Trip Through Your Wires = Great , a favourite of mine.

When Love comes to town = U2 + BB King = Genius.

Tunes I skip.

Dreaming with tears ... - Not a bad tune per sey, just a bit slow and simple, uninspiring, unremarkable lyrics.

I can't help falling in love.... - Yawn.

Lemon - meh

Love Comes Tumbling

Ultraviolet

i'm seeing a lot i agree adn don't agree with here but one song that always gets me, and i cannot bear to hear this and i dont know why is
"The Wanderer"

am i the only one???

i don't dislike 'the wanderer', but i honestly can't remember the last time i listened to it. it's not one of my favourites, for sure.

and hey, remember kids, we all have our opinions, and no one is more correct than anyone else. i do enjoy how passionate we are about our choices, though.

in no particular order:

Is That All?
Grace
The Refugee
Red Light
A Day Without Me
Babyface
Wire
Twilight
Stranger in a Strange Land
All Along the Watchtower, Rattle & Hum version (yeah I know it's a cover, but still! :barf:)

most of my choices seem to reflect popular opinion...
