Perhaps because people were confused wether this was Atlanta,USA or Atlanta, Germany?
just because i was silly enough to doesn't mean everyone else is!
yeah. given they pulled that stunt when the third show in sydney wasn't played to maximum capacity (aka, wasn't sold out) i'd like to see how they swing it. it's awfully anal not calling a show a sellout when the only remaining seats are in the highest level with double letters as row numbers, but we'll see.
I can only add that for Atlanta if you check Ticketmaster you can get blocks of tix in upper, lower and mezz level. It does look like Tampa and Dallas are almost sellouts. I can't explain the consistency of why most of the Tour has been a sellout but for a southern cities. U2 plaed a lot of weeknights in Eurpeo and have played a few here and, at least according to U2'S website, sold out those shows.
After reading posts, I guess shouldn't care about empty seats, just enjoy the show. btw: also like NLOTH, don't think that explains lackluster ticket sales in some cites.
Given the quality of commercial radio these days, I'd be more worried if their songs were all over the airwaves.
Atlanta usually gets two shows during a tour [...] U2 has played to sold out crowds here before.
Atlanta usually gets two shows during a tour, but since they are playing several cities in the Southeast, I think the demand is not as high to see them here. I also blame it on being a week night show. I am very curious to see how many empty seats I see in the dome while I am on the pitch.
No sell outs for the Hawks or Falcons? Really? I have been to several games that have sold out. U2 has played to sold out crowds here before.
I'm a Falcon fan (live in San Antonio TX) and see on TV so many empty seats. And many of there fans talk about empty seats & the dome not filling up. Only time it was full or had consecutive sellouts was when Vick was playing. As for the Hawks, things might have changed in the past few years but I know they've had major issues putting people in the stands (NBA follower).
And, MissVelvetDress don't worry about the empty seats just enjoy the show
So basically what you're saying is that because you don't like the new album, U2 sucks.
this is what i meant when i didn't like people with very few posts since 2005 turning up telling me i like crap music.
DC will have a huge crowd, but may not be sold out due to the sheer size of the stadium
I'll put my U2 record collection (vinyl and CDs and MP3s), memorabilia, books, posters, concert ticket stubs, etc. up against yours anytime. I've spent thousands (THOUSANDS) of US dollars on this band. Now, am I allowed to say I don't like NLOTH?
Number of posts does not certify one a U2 fan.
Although 31,000+ is pretty impressive, but don't you have a job, or a family?
I just checked on ticketmaster and tampa is sold out. Dallas, Atlanta, and Raleigh only have two sections that have multiple tickets and the rest are either sold out or have only single tickets left. An article said Charlottesville will have at least 50,000 in attendance, and DC has only multiple tickets in the $30 nose bleeds, so if you ask me sales are rather good up to that point.
No.
Now, now.... They're still the second greatest band of all time. But they're sucking right now.
I wonder- it seems kind of inconsistent (admittedly I haven't researched this stuff)...Some shows are breaking attendance records and others report that some shows have 5,000-10,000 empty seats???
So I guess the US is the center of the universe?
Maybe you should go and see the show before you make your judgements. The new material is doing incredibly well in a live setting. U2 won't become a greatest hits band, just because some people are complaining about their less radio-friendly new stuff. If they did, that would be a reason for me not to go to more than one show any more.
NLOTH is a quality album, thank God the songs aren't played on commercial radio. I don't know how you can call it "recycled". It's more the opposite.
European audiences still embrace U2 and I'm glad they are coming back next year.
those who are saying the stadiums are half-full are getting this confused with popmart

i had the absolute back row in the highest level, there were a number of empty seats around us.I'm pretty sure Chicago 2 was sold out. Unless there were 5,000 single empty seats sparatically spread throughout the stadium. There were no noticeable sections of empty seats. Believe me, I was looking for empties.
Very lucky to catch U2 opening night in Barcelona. Going next week to Atlanta show. However just wondering, U2 could not or least looks like they will not be selling out RaleigH, Atlanta, Charlottesville, Houston, maybe Dallas, Phoenix? Just wondering if fans in these cities could speculate or suggest reason. Don't believe ecomony is excuse as economy was doing much worse when tix first went on sale than at the present time. Every show, arguably has been sold out up until DC. Next sellout is in Vegas, LA, Vancouver. It's kind of disappointing to be bringing 2 first timers to u2 in Atlanta and from what I've heard from friend at Ticketmaster, see thousands of empty seats. Other than Miami, not sure why U2 would want to add any other southern city to next year's return to States.

Personally, I'm just curious to see if any shows won't be counted as sellouts, or if they'll claim they all are sold out by not putting all possible tickets on sale and selling all tickets that do go on sale.
The way I see it, if 10,000 seats you could've sold are sitting there empty, that's not a sellout, no matter how you spin it. Claiming a technical sellout just to look good is silly.
