Week 23

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I don't see Eminem's Relapse overtake No Line this year so I might drop him next time. KOL is consistently outselling U2 but not by a large enough margin, they probably won't catch them for this years sales. Lady Gaga is gaining every week and it looks like the tour isn't doing enough to catch up, yet. I haven't yet looked into MJ's numbers on this chart. Any other contenders for the top spot I might have missed?

On a sidenote: the Lady was playing the Melkweg theatre in Amsterdam (the infamous Milky-something) on the very same day that U2 were pleaying the Amsterdam Arena, with Bono mentioning they played the Melkweg so many years ago.

World Top 50 Albums

Sorry I mixed up Totals and This year, this is the correct version.

strange how U2 are ahead of eminem on this chart. u2 gaga and KOl are 20,000 up on mediatraffics numbers

Total sales for Michael Jackson's Top 3 albums on MusiCharts World Top 50 Albums as of week 23 for No Line:

Number Ones - 1893800 - 173900
The Essential - 1589700 - 207700
Thriller - 1341400 - 107600

U2 No Line album sales since that same week (also the start week of the 360 Tour):
No Line - 233100

And for the sake of completeness:
Lady Gaga - 592500
KOL - 390700

I'm note sure they report the exact same period. This is the first week (wk11) that U2 is above Eminem. The period is stated as 27.07.2009-02.08.2009.
I'm not sure what MT reports, issue date is August 6 but that's not the end date of the reported sales week.

Added:
MT have U2 entering the chart with 100.000 in week 10 / 2009 - March 14.
This week on MT is week 32 / 2009 - August 15.
End date Thursday 26th February?

MC have No Line coming in at #5 with 117.200 in week 23.02.2009-01.03.2009.
This week on MC is 27.07.2009-02.08.2009.
End date must also be 26th February, because official sales took off in the 27th.

I've added up the same numbers from the MediaTraffic database (typo's possible).

Numbers from MediaTraffic, since tour started:

Thriller - 1913.000
Number Ones - 1882.000
The Essential - 1455.500
Lady Gaga - 577.000
Eminem - 439.000
KOL - 388.000
No Line - 190.000

They're a bit off from the reported 'points' on WorldWide Web, don't know why, could be me being half asleep.

NLOTH has always been ahead of Eminem's album on all charts, so not strange.

These worldwide figures though, for NLOTH and other albums, do make sense. MediaTraffic's figures seemed suspiciously low. KOL's album as well as U2's album have had a surge on the charts across the globe, yet MediaTraffic's figures simply weren't showing that. I believe these numbers a lot more.

From now on, I will consider NLOTH having sold at least 3.5M copies worldwide and it should be 3.6M by next week.

th only markets where eminem has and still is outselling NLOTH are the US and UK, NLOTH will soon be overtaking him in UK. i would agree that relapse is still outselling NLOTH for that reason as US and UK markets are bigger than europe and ROW.

The fact that Relapse is currently outselling NLOTH in those two markets does not imply it has sold more units overall. For starters, NLOTH was released a couple of months in advance of Relapse and sales trends for both albums have been very similar all the way so it´s only natural that NLOTH is still ahead and unless Eminem is able to come up with a big hit it won´t ever catch up with U2.

The week it was released it cracked the top 100 as far as I remember, wasn't anywhere in the top 300 until a week or two before release.

I am suprised it hasnt shown up on radio 1 yet, but i am still sure it will, maybe this week? with the wembley shows this weekend?

Yeah I really hope it does, I mean when has British radio ever shunned U2?

New airplay chart was released for UK, no sign of Crazy in top 50 on either radio or tv

I dont think they would shun U2, i mean as i said in another one of my local radio stations has a "U2 announcement" tomorrow at 8am, now it could either be a ticket giveaway, OR the premier of crazy?, i just dont belive it has been released to radio as of yet.

I checked Radio 1 the only U2 they've played in the last 7 days is Beautiful Day once

Crazy was played a whole one time on radio 2 in the last 7 days

wow how do you find this out?

i was lucky enough to hear beautiful day friday evening, A-Z of artists, unsurprisingly U for for U2!

Hmm just read an article from the sunday mail in scotland, it says the single isnt released until sept 7th, this could be the reason for lack of airplay i guess?
