Staring At the Silence

Staring at the silence
that’s all they become
dreaming about memories perhaps
never attached to this world
but to a place no one knows
but them.

You try to make some semblance
of what it is they’re trying to say
You feel so helpless
everytime you express some words
it always comes out wrong
as if you’re trying to hurt them
because it’s how they feel.

Staring at the silence
that’s all you see
you often wonder what they think
as you come home tired
just trying to find some solace
from your daily stress...
instead you stare at your own four walls
turn on the TV or surf the web....
trying to find something or someone
to make your life worthwhile.

So many times you eat alone
no dining table set with silver and wine
no conversation or small talk.....
it’s just you with a plate balanced
upon your knee
sharing your dinner with
your canine friends....
without them where would you be.

Staring at the silence
that’s all they become
but they will never be better....
so you learn to deal with it as best you can.
It hurts.......your parent of many years
you don’t show your hurt to others
you keep it inside.....
it’s so sad as you watch them
sitting staring at the silence.

The vibe you give off is very real, like playing a low note on a cello or piano or something, it reminds me. A dark note, but a real and living one, even if it is somber.
