Somewhere in middle America
I dreamt of someone else last night
It came as a surprise
That someone else was occupying my mind
She's not quite as beautiful
Nor quite as captivating
And yet she captured my attention.

Something about her escaped description
Something familiar I couldn't quite place
Something in her eyes I hadn't seen in waking
But something I knew I had seen before

We walked a while down a quiet path
Sharing a wordless conversation
And every time I turned to look
That something familiar grew more distinct
Her hair had changed
And her smile had broadened
And her eyes seemed less and less her own

As our walk drew to a close I turned once more
Only to be stunned by the sight
This someone else with a growing familiarity
Had transformed so completely -
The one left holding my hand
Gently smiling with those unmistakeable eyes
Was you

Towards the last few lines, I started to wonder if the new one was in fact she the same.

What a way to think... She's a lucky girl.
Truly beautiful Diemen.

I must show that poem to a particular friend of mine.

Very nice work, Diemen.

Thanks manda and BC.

I wanted it to have more of a bittersweet flavor to it (since we're no longer together), but I like the way it came out.

And I actually did have that dream.

Thanks for all the kind words gang.

I think this may be about maybe the 3rd poem of my own that I actually like...it seems like the better stuff comes when I just write whatever is in my head, rather than sitting there beforehand thinking about how to say it.
