I have seen some comments along those same lines from my brother and his friends. I find that attitude fucking disgusting and sad.

When people respond to give details of their own situation, they say "Well, you can't argue with your specifics because blah blah blah that's not a good argument for a broad situation."

Oh yeah? How else are you supposed to argue against someone making such sweeping generalizations? I thought pointing out that "Hey, you can't generalize, because check THIS out" was a fine way to respond to assholes making generalizations.

FUCK.

exactly. what's funny is one of her friends did comment and mentioned how she was currently pregnant and jobless. then suddenly the "oh girl i feel for you" crap piles on. which is why i (well, i try to anyway) avoid making such generalizations because you always put your foot in your mouth over it.

The ignorant stay ignorant, or so it seems. Sorry your friend is so blind. It frustrates me to no end. I have insurance that I can't afford. I'm still wondering how the new law will affect me, or if it will. I don't work for a company, I'm self-employed. I do see/hear the highlights of what will happen this year in general. I'll just have to sit back, wait & see. I did watch the president sign the paperwork this morning :)

And it makes me mad to see that there are people already campaigning to get this repealed/revoked or whatever is they want to do. Can't we put it into action and see how it works first?

Oh, is he against our new Obamacare Overlord as well?

I'm responsible for Health Care if you're against it, and I'm one of the people saying negative things about it on Facebook if you're for it.

Diemen, that is AWESOME.

I've been fortunate enough not to feel like defriending anyone on Facebook. The people I know who are against it are at least intelligent and well-spoken and aren't hate-filled jerks who just vomit out what they heard on Fox News.

(I can almost put my mom in that category. She's intelligent and not hate-filled, but she's not well-spoken on the intarwebz and does tend to vomit out those talking points.)

i've seen one facebook status about healthcare/insurance since it was passed, and it was from a new zealander. if i had any hate filled idiocy the person would be deleted instantly, because i'm lucky enough that most americans i have on my friends list i know through the internet and can either trust them to not be stupid or are completely dispensable (hi mike).

frankly there's enough going on in new zealand to get pissed off about anyway.

I'm embarrassed for anyone who feels strongly in either direction about the bill. It's by no means something to be proud of, nor is it something to be worried about either. It's pretty mediocre no matter how you look at it.

Exactly what you'd expect from the American government.

:)

charles? (yeah, i ask here because i'm too lazy to switch windows)

oh, and you just reminded me of something i feel i should share with everyone. the friend i mentioned? her parents declared bankruptcy recently because her dad had a heart attack and they had a ton of medical bills. and she still thinks passing things to prevent this from happening is bad. they do say there's one born every minute. :)

My hometown is pretty much split down the middle politically, but the website for our newspaper is probably the home to the worst comment section in the history of people considered reasonable.

Health care is just the beginning of Obama's quest to make the USA a Socialist (Communist) country. He has everyone debating and complaining about health care while he plans on the next steps to take away freedoms from the people. Omama didn't listen to you on health care, and he isn't gonna listen to you on any right you think you may have. Obama and his communist views are going to run this nation into the ground. And he has Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Rahm, Barney, and his other socialist co-horts helping him. Complain all you want, but Obama will not listen.

The CBO themselves have said that trying to project 10 years out is a fool's errand. So the fact that their analysis is being treated like gospel by those in favor confuses me. But as a somewhat-conservative, I am used to living in the real world. While the liberals/progressives/whatever you are referring to yourself as nows prefer to live in Wonderland. The grown-ups will be in charge of the agenda next Congress. I was on the fence about it, but now I'm pretty sure. The adults picked up 54 seats in 1996, but need much less this time. A switch of about 40 or so seats will give Repubs the House and (thankfully) gridlock this country before any more damage can be done. Turn in Dad's credit card and go to your rooms!!

And I think Obama's administration has been disastrous. He has spent trillions of dollars (that we don't have) and we have NOTHING to show for it. So I would say the "doom and gloom" about him being elected was right on.

I won't have to come back a year from now, because I know I'm right.

hilariously, no! for all of his love of right wing politics here, he's very left wing (for america).
oh wow! and yeah. god, i wonder if i'd even be considered a left winger there. i guess so, since the little bit of research i've done about parties so far finds me more with the green party.

I actually more meant comments on overheard yesterday, or via Fox News or their web site, etc, not FB.
oh yeah, i hear you. i don't ever watch fox news just out of principle. i stick to early morning cbs news. i get a couple hours of national news, then a couple of local news. the cbs affiliate here is somewhat left leaning, and they printed the comments two representatives made, one of whom voted for it, one who didn't. unfortunately, the one who didn't vote for it is my local representative. though it came as no surprise to me that she didn't vote for it, considering she's republican. i try my best to vote her ass out every time she's up for re-election. memphis as a whole is democrat, but there seems to be more republicans in the suburbs, especially once you consider...those other states nearby.

what's awesome, is that we spent a trillion in Iraq and thankfully we found those evil WMDs that could have killed us all to show for it.
