The Beatles are before my era, but my brother is 13 years older than me, so he made sure I was well versed in that era (I'm more of a late 70s - 80s kid, those were my formative years)......

For the record, I don't idolize any of them, and the whole John Lennon idolization in particular pisses me off. From stuff I've read (in my early teens, I read a shitton of Beatles bios) John sounds like an asshole who was barely tolerable and abusive to woman. I do like Paul though. Ringo is...Ringo. Sadly, almost a non-entity. George with his Eastern philosophy was kind of...out there. But yeah, they're just a group of boys who got together at the right time in history, and honed their skills tremendously by playing a bazillion Cavern Club shows, and became a very tight, talented band.

i think for what ever reasons JL got pretty cynical fast... but i think he also was aware of Class issues early on...he was a pretty smart guy... listen to "Working Class Hero" which are SO open/up front but in the USA often have been America's dirty little secret ( vs racism, what we did to the Native Americans).

hooo boy yes seems JL was abusive to women and i think Yoko set him pretty straight...

I can sing at least parts of or all of many Beatles songs because i lived and breathed them! i sure do winch now at some of those early Beatles songs with rather abusive lyrics towards women..

Since my mom had shown me lot of art both American ad European but then also/religious/spiritual objects in photos, stories etc from many of the world's cultures/religions including the more animistic religions of Native Americans, Africans and Japanese Shintoism... Hinduism by the time GH was talking about it etc wasn't so "out there" for me! :)

i love ringo! i think over the decades he became the most mellow w/o being as ? withdrawn as GH became...

and don't forget... Ringo has his All Star Touring Band with a bunch of both respected sessions musicians and well know musicians/singers etc!
i got to see them for free in ?2003 or4 they were great!

Paul... oh i screamed over him in my early fandays but eventually it was
JL's political/cultural stuff that in became the most respectful of.

i think at some point Paul become kind of insufferable after his :hmm: first 2 albums with Wings/"

and bythe time he wrote

he "silly Love Songs" song say "wrong with that, i'd like to know" go the lyrics...

i'd retort to the radio "Because your silly love songs have become BORING!" thats why!!!

NEXT PART 70'S/80'S

The funny thing about being a Beatles Fan So young for that era 11 yrs old.....

was tht we totally depended on our parents (for the shows... was my best friend's dad who owned a restaurant in Muidtown that got us the tickets...
tho :hmm: my mom took me, my cousin and that same best friend down to see the Beatles at the Hotel they were staying at!

The first bands i ever saw live weren't the Beatles but Eric Burden & the Animals, and Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels!

Soooo when i started hearing about Patti Smith and other bands through The Village Voice, F semi-free form commercial radio DJ, etc and heard Patti's and Television first possible while i was in my last semester of Art spring 74College Only 4 blocks away from CBGB's ...i didn't rush out to see them b/c i had to start looking for work, an i was kind of depressed about something else.

then later in summer 74 or 75 i was depressed for another several reasons... i eventually got out of that after a few months....

then b/c i was still sort of following the news about theses hearing about the bands i was like.....

:ohmy::hyper: I'm an Adult now....
i can go see these bands, stay out way late at clubs, etc.
...:lol::hyper::love:

Even when i first saw The Who my mom took me and ?my cousin to Central Park and earlier that year seeing them in Long Island my dad drove me & my cousins out there.
the when they didTommy at the FilmoreEast... my dad said yore too young to be going down there at night... so he took me and a friend down there!

And so i did over these next bunch of years plus!

Bunions run in our family. I'm Doc and Chuck Taylors kind of girl. I never really wore heels much because of bunions. My left foot has one - not too too bad. But when I was training for the marathon, my feet swelled from a 7.5 running shie to a 8.5 running shoe. And I have to get a running shoe with minimal cross stitching across the big toe. I thought I had a fractured foot once during one of my training runs for Boston. Not what you want 6 weeks out from the big race.

VP, your niece rocks. If she's running half marathons and thinking of a marathon, she's a tough cookie already.

Feet suck.

She does, thanks! Not that I can take any credit for it, but still. She's related, so maybe a tiny bit of her awesomeness can rub off onto me? lol

It made me laugh so much today. It's been in the news here that long distance running can damage your heart, according to this recent study. Her grandfather on her dad's side (not related to me) told everyone who came into the room about the study. I swear I heard him bring it up at least 5 times. Then when she was talking about the marathon, he was all "how far is that? Are you SURE you can do it??" Old people with no tact. :cute:

I know!!!! Like that`s supposed to make it better

Or like a kitchenette. Which is equally problematic.

Here we have a fashionable foot equipped with a bunionette. Only half-sized bone growth, but still utilitarian enough for its own space

:giggle:

I am probably biased, but I have zero respect for Lennon, because, IMO, if you're the type to be a gun-toting, woman abusing asshole, fame has very little to do with it, either you have those tendencies or you don't...and that makes the whole peace-loving thing hypocritical. But he seems to have reached saintly status in pop culture, so i realize I'm in the minority in feeling this way.

Regarding Ringo, with his all-star band, they were playing casinos in this area, which is kind of sad, and has something to do with my non-entity comment. I don't feel that way about him, but clearly he isn't popular.

I actually love most of McCartney's solo catalogue. I like a good deal of Harrison's, too. Most of Lennon's I can take or leave. He was very hit and miss, solo. And his hits have long ago reached overplayed to me, so I can barely stand to listen to them now.

To this day I still like "Silly Love Songs."

Yes!!! Hopefully mine will stay tiny and adorable, as the name indicates ( ) but when that tiny bone digs into shoes, it fucking hurts, grrr. Too bad it's not accompanied by painette.

Iiiit's dinnertime.

Have a random Velvet Goldmine gif in my absence

Sounds like my mom. She went on and on about we were not meant to run long races. Yes, and we weren't meant to smoke for 30+ years, but you did that...didn't you?

I think running and training is healthier for you because you are taking care of your body. Just like everything - you have to do it in moderation.

Hokay. I will probably search for new ones and break them in slowly. The amount of walking I do...ever...when inside is minimal...

Oh yeah. Best conversation. I do need to give my brain a break from the usual though. Summer makes me think on overdrive. Too much about places I'm not at.

I TOTALLY hear ya on that front. I have so much free brain-time, I start totally overthinking EVERYTHING. that's why I like swimming. I can't think about anything else but swimming while I'm doing it.

 That's definitely ... interesting. I'm just eating my dinner right now. SO delicious!

The salad was good and Mr.Z loved it. I'm glad yours is good too!

Zu, we may need you to smut it up a bit.

done and done

Did the study make the news down there? I only read the headlines, but it was all over the place for a few days. From what he said, which I wouldn't put much stock into, because he's an 85 year old man, and for pretty much any study written, you can find other studies that negate it, but it said that you shouldn't run any longer than an hour??

As far as health risks go, I would imagine running, for any length of time, would be fairly low on the scale.

I'm about to make a comment that ought to garner groans. Yes, this comes from a Bono girl, but I wasn't always a Bono girl. And unlike some - I think I have fair grasp that he is not without flaws.

I think Bono is what John Lennon could have been or maybe fancied himself being. I think that he was a bit self-centered. Sure, he could be brilliant, but I agree with you VP - overblown in his importance and sainthood. I find Paul more attractive on the inside. His love for his family and wife - now THAT'S being a fucking hero. He quietly did what he thought was right - okay - maybe he didn't tackle world peace. But I think John was still eating 'shrooms thinking that goal was attainable.

just adding in this part also here so you won't miss it

And OMG. Since I've been at their place, she's gotten a treadmill. I've wanted one for a long time just for walking, because I hate walking outside alone. The ones I've been looking at are $500-ish. The one she has looks better and more heavy-duty than gyms have...she said she got it for around $1,000, but it was greatly reduced because it was a floor model.

I agree with that, too.

I think the smartest thing Bono ever did was to stay attached to people he grew up with, people that would call him on his BS (which, undoubtedly, there has been lots over the years) and not let him get too big for his britches. As much as I hate to admit it (because I am an envious, petty bitch) Ali probably has a lot to do with that, too.

I wanted one. But we belong to a gym with a cool wooden plank tradmill that mimics the road more than traditional belt treadmills. We have NO room in our already cluttered basement. Even if we ditched the stationary bike.

From the last thread (holy hell, you ladies work fast!)

I'm not familiar with it. Is that the movie you downloaded earlier?

Yes.

and onto this thread

and fine, GR. I'll put the OTHER Bono pics in here too. Sheesh - you'd think he was the singer and that almost every girl in this thread thought he's super sexy or something

Drinking In The Day :giggle:

I like the little story in the lyrics though.

Re: Across the Universe... Love that movie. Probably just because everyone's lovely 60s clothes. I actually

can't stand the Beatles mostly :reject: blame my suitemates, and high school kids

but I really enjoy that film.

I am a Beatles fan. :shifty: My Beatlemania predates my U2 obsession, even. :reject:

OMG, that song is about underage drinking and OMG...she's 15?!
