My kids are between 8 and 16, and they have never seen hard core porn on the internet, at least not at my house and highly unlikely at others either.

I daresay everyone who's commenting on this actually HAS kids, and can cite sources for the pretty putrageous claims such as this. Or then again, maybe not.........

Sorry, but it's really sad if you think that even your 16 year old hasn't seen it. (ever hear of something called junk mail?) Besides, kids and teenagers are curious by nature, and they'll look if they have the chance, I know I did.

By the way, the average as IS 10 for a child seeing hard core porn. A study came out on it in the last month or so..I'll see if I can find it but right now I'm really having a hard time remembering where I found it (it could be the beer I had tonight).

Trust me all kids or atleast most kids will find a way of seeing porn at a young age. When I was a kid i did too and that was before the net came out so it was harder then! Now with the net i can ASSURE you that your kids have most likely seen porn even if you think they didnt

I haven't seen it so I can't really comment...but I'd say as long as it's "tasteful" there's no problem with it. They may have had a dancer for Mysterious Ways on ZooTV, but she was a belly dancer and it wasn't degrading to women. The opposite really. There's absolutely nothing wrong with sexuality or a woman's body...as long as it's portrayed as something mysterious & beautiful, it's fine. I just can't stand videos, etc that are degrading to women and treat them as slaves/trash/loveless sex/etc.

Has anyone seen that video for the song "I like the way you move" by the people that made the "hey ya" song? Where there are women prowling the African grasslands like animals? Now that makes me vomit:madspit:

perhaps the 8 year old... but if i were a betting man, and according to my shrinking bank account i am, if the 16 year old is a boy, i'd wanna double check that if i was you...

Even sadder that you think know me, or my 16-year old daughter well enough to draw that conclusion.

Ever hear of net nanny, internet security, firewalls, spam filters, spyware blocks, etc ? Believe me, I know EXACTLY what comes into my PC, and where it comes from.

I also check my kids' email accounts, including the bulk folders.

No porn there. Perhaps I could teach you how to set up your PC ?

Well, that's your problem/household !

Appreciate the parenting advice, thanks.

How many kids do you have ?

It is also sad you enforce a restricted Big Brother environment on your children.

It is completely natural for a child going through puberty to want to discover their sexuality and learn about such things as this. Porn is one way most people are able to come to grips with who thay are and it can be liberating in some aspects. By clamping down on anything 'immoral' (as you seem to be doing with your internet security), you don't allow your kids to take a few shocks that as humans we all need to develop. Naievety, whilst admirable in young kids, quickly turns into ignorance as someone becomes an adolescent and further more repression as they suddenly realise things as an adult that they always were taught as wrong, actually feel right.

This all not to mention how your kids must feel about your obvious lack of trust in them!

Oh and one more thing, leaving aside the disgusting fact that you go through a 16 year old's email, do you have any idea how easy it is to hide porn from a parent? For one, net nannys and the like only really work on 'offending' sites. And no one really uses sites.. There is always a way to cover your tracks.

Plus...

Videotapes? Sure your daughter or son (if you have one over the age of 10-12ish) hasn't been watching some? Perhaps as a way of being intimate with a significant other?

You can't know and by trying to, you are making the screwed up world of over zealous parenting go round.

I can understand a parent using net security tools to keep their children from looking at questionable material on their home computer.

But checking their e-mail accounts? A household without privacy is one without trust.

Either or? I fail to see the connection. Again, what does a cartoon image of a topless woman at a rock concert have to do with fighting global poverty?

I seem to think that the minute U2 stops being a ROCK band, they lose their pulpit. I think the apparant contradiction between rock band and humanitarians is exactly the what makes U2 so powerful for its chosen causes.

your vocabulary and chosen words are a mouthful of non-sense .. for that i give you credit --

playboy mansion is a song, not an estate--

Whoa how did this thread all of sudden turn into a Free Your Mind thread about parenting?

This thread is about appreciating the female form.

Ide be very upset if my parents were checking my e-mail all the time thats invasion of privacy but thats just me

You come here and tell us that we don't know about parenting but you obviusly have TONS to learn about parenting. You are doing all the wrong things. Its like people who are clean freaks and don't allow their children to ever get dirty. Well those children end up getting sicker because they are never given the chance to build up the imunity that they require. kid are supposed to get dirty hands once in a while.

Well this is much the same way...

if you don't allow any exposure to this sortoff thing you will regret it later because they will not be able to learn for themselves. I am not ganna explain more of this cos its well explained in previus replies.

Also what kind of message do you think you are sending your kids when your checking their very private e-mails? your telling them that you, their own mother does not trust them. You know how emotionaly scarring that could be for a child to realize that their parents don't trust them? You know what could happen? They could rebel because of that and the outcome will be alot worse then them checking a little porn here and there. TRUST me they could run away from home do drugs rebel against you get pragnent whatever cos your restricting their childhood and telling them that you dont trust them one bit

Gee YOU sure know alot about parenting!!!

Hope you got the money to pay for your childrens counciling bills!

So they got rid of Jiggling Nipples???

Sounds like the over-reaction to the Janet Jackson incident. The moral authorities in the US got all in a tizz, while the rest of the world just went "Huh?".

As for teh other discussion, my mother tried to be a disciplinarian. I'm still telling her, 20 years later, about all the things I got up to behind her back!

Which is a lot worse than KNOWING what your kids are up to. It's a hard line trying to take care of your kids but also to not prohibit too much because if you do you just might spark up their interest in the forbidden. :tsk:

What is the point of bringing back a thread, and replying about something that wasn't even the thread's main topic?

I think we all just want to know just exactly what blueeyedgirl got up to behind her mum's back. :eyebrow:

As for the original topic of the thread.... To quote all those people who like to scream along with the songs and jump up and down all damned night  -- it's a rock concert! If it's too much for the kiddies -- don't bring them.

Are you new to U2? They've always balanced on the line of contradictions, mixing the spiritual with the secular, the serious with the insane.

I think people need to get over their ridiculous prudishness and realize that a woman's body is THE perfect piece of art ever made.

Amen.

I really don't think a female body on a curtain of lights is gonna scar or corrupt a kid. We were kids ourselves once, we need to trust them a bit more.
