need help quickly - Running to stand Still

I thought this song would be good to use at school in English - the topic is Image and there is a strong image fo suffering and hopelessness - poetic devices are also good
However it ocured to me after all this time that I really dont understand the meaning of the title. Its very effective because of the use of opposites (running and still) but i still cant quite get it.
Some assistance here would be great.

I'm under the impression that 'running to stand still' basically means 'trying to get somewhere, but all the time going nowhere, staying where you are.'
