or unless the song was written entirely in the studio, therefore becoming part of the master recordings and property of Island Records (their label at the time) and not in the most traditional sense, a demo.

My guess is there is a demo, most likely in the form of a 4 track recording. Whether or not it sounds ANYTHING like the song we all love is up for debate.
