Ok this is like the most pain ever. Now I can't get pregnant but to be honest ladies I would probably trade right now.

Wednesday I couldn't even stand upright because the pain was at my lower back and all down my right leg. Even a twitch of my toe would send the most agonising pain throughout my back.

I thought it had started to wear off a bit yesterday and more so today as I had been able to stand and even walk a bit, but unfortunately when going in the fridge I got a twinge and my arse just went numb, i nearly collapsed.

Any exercise tips to control this would be appreciated.

I really don't know anything about that, but maybe a chiropractor?

Pilates might help, but I'd consult a doctor before doing any sort of exercise

Sorry about your pain

I have had sciatica since I was a teenager. I usually only have flare-ups if I've really been working my back--lifting boxes, moving furniture, etc. Usually all I can do for it is take a bath or lie down with a heating pad.

The pain can be pretty bad, although I'm sure it's nothing like childbirth.

I have heard about the good results from help of a chiropractor

I'm so sorry Macphisto, I know all about this!

I've had sciatica flare-ups and they are AWFUL! My physiotherapist gave me some exercises to do. Both involve lying flat on the floor with your knees bent (like you're going to do a sit up).

For the first one, bring one knee to your chest, hold for a few seconds, then go back to the starting position. Do the same with the other knee. Try and go for 10 times on each side.

For the second exercise, slightly roll your pelvis up and back, so that the small of your back is flat on the floor under you. Using your stomach muscles, "press" the small of your back into the floor and hold for 10 seconds then release. Try and do 10 of these too.

I went to a specialist who told me that gaining weight is a big no-no, and that I needed to include regular exercise into my routine. Since last August, I've been exercising regularly (and managed to lose almost 20 pounds) and my back has never felt better. I haven't had a flare up in almost 2 years. The specialist said that should I have a really bad flare up I should ask the doctor to prescribe Neurontin for the pain. Luckily, I haven't had to do this yet.

I am NOT a doctor, just letting you know what worked for me.

Hope it helps!

I literally feel your pain. If you are having numbness you might want to delve a little deeper into the cause.
