This is EXACTLY how I feel!
I think it might be time for a new party to represent the conservatives. The current batch of Republicans are a bunch of clowns and frauds. The dems are FAR worse, make no mistake about that. But I am not happy with the current senate and house...(and President).
Perhaps losing this time around will wake up the Right in time for 2008.
Tucker Carlson on
Chris Matthews a few weeks ago:
[q]CARLSON: It goes deeper than that though. The deep truth is that the elites in the Republican Party have pure contempt for the evangelicals who put their party in power. Everybody in ...
MATTHEWS: How do you know that? How do you know that?
CARLSON: Because I know them. Because I grew up with them. Because I live with them. they live on my street. Because I live in Washington, and I know that everybody in our world has contempt for the evangelicals. And the evangelicals know that, and they're beginning to learn that their own leaders sort of look askance at them and don't share their values.
MATTHEWS: So this gay marriage issue and other issues related to the gay lifestyle are simply tools to get elected?
CARLSON: That's exactly right. It's pandering to the base in the most cynical way, and the base is beginning to figure it out.[/q]
you realize that Republican elites don't give a crap about gay marriage; they aren't sincerely pro-life and will use that as the proverbial carrot to get you to the polls; they are every bit as secular as the Democrats; they're the popular kids in class befriending the uncool kids and pretending to care about them so they can get their vote but they're never going to give you want you want and they're going to use your vote to pass themselves tax cuts that are going to make them richer and slash social services for the devout working classes, and tell them that God helps those who help themselves.
it's been a spectacular ruse, and they've been riding it for the past 12 years, and it's time for the evangelicals to realize the extent to which they've been duped, the extent to which they're mocked behind their backs, and the fact that there has been virtually NO progress on issues like abortion or school prayer or whatever over the past 12 years.
you might have no reason to vote Democrat, but at least the Dems haven't played you for fools over the past 12 years.
(and i mean the Royal You, not AEON in particular)
