Beautiful Day was a fucking terrible opener.
Beautiful Day was a fucking terrible opener.
As someone who greatly enjoyed EBTTRT as an opener that very year, I feel sorry for all those who were disappointed by it. I was jumping up and down like an idiot to it a few weeks later. It was an awesome opener. Way, way better than Beautiful Day was early on in the tour. It's inexplicably horrible in that spot.
At least they shelved Glastonbury.
How the hell could U2 not even make the top 100??? I know the author of that article is trying to show how hip he is and how much CRED he has by dissing the biggest band in the world, but that's just stupid.
The UK press violently hates U2. The UK press also seems to have an unusual amount of sway over their readers/listeners. I sometimes think NME created Oasis just to have something to write about.
U2's performance was leaden and perfunctory. If we're talking about the biggest bands in the world, The Rolling Stones blew them out of the water last year and they made the list, so I don't think the author is a complete hipster. I agree the UK press give U2 a hard time, but on this occasion I think they got it right - they don't deserve to be there.
It's ridiculous to NOT include U2 in that Top 100 list. We can argue about them deserving a spot among the top 20 or even top 30, but not including them in a list of 100 Glasto performances is simply mean. It's the typical UK media agenda. I don't want to defend the show, it had a lof of flaws, still it had its great moments. I don't take anything seriously that comes from UK media concerning U2.

It couldnt of been any worse then ebttrt (on that night),it really was a terrible start
The other idea would of been to start with streets. Joshua tree tour style. I know the band considered this, they said so in a few interviews.
I wonder what would of happened in 2010 if the gig had gone ahead?
20 Years of Achtung Baby: 5 Questions with Willie Williams They had a different setlist in mind.
It has to be said playing Streets this early was wrong.
But, I thought Morrissey was paying tribute to U2 during his set.
Everyones raving about metallica last night and to be fair they were pretty damn good. They were playing with smiles on their faces, looking relaxed and really enjoying it.
Take note u2 who looked like a bag of nerves at the start of the gig and it rained pretty heavy during metallicas set
Metallica is fucking terrible.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using U2 Interference mobile app

To be fair, U2 didn't have much reason to smile and look happy when they were performing at Glasto. Bono's very bad at hiding his emotions.
I, like everyone else wish things had gone a little better for them. And yes, Metallica were indeed great
Well, being a big bunch of babies about it isn't going to do much to fight the press and impress new fans.
If the reason they were so grumpy was all the bad publicity going into it, then the best thing they could've done was go out there and have a great time. Let the media know they don't give a fuck. They didn't do that.
