Gateway vs. Sony Vaio

I have been looking to buy a laptop, and have come across two primary candidates- a Vaio and a Gateway. They are the same price, but the Gateway has a larger screen (17" vs. 15.4") and slightly more hard-drive capacity. I know that Vaios have a strong reputation, but I am unsure about Gateway; which seems to be the better deal?

Sony loves to charge a premium on all of their electronics, even when they are not the best in category. I would see if pcmag.com reviewed the models. Gateways in many cases are rated as well Sonys.
