I love this song, it's so haunting and beautiful. Found these lyrics:

Six o’clock
On the autoroute
Burning rubber, burning chrome
Bay of Cadiz and ferry home
Atlantic sea cut glass
African sun at last

Lights… flash past…
Like memories
A speeding head, a speeding heart
I’m being born, a bleeding start
The engines roar, blood curling wail
Head first then foot
Then heart sets sail

Great song, haunting, experimental intro. I hear a little Unforgettable Fire in it. They should do more stuff like this and less Stand Up Comedy type songs.

I don't get the intro yet. The beginning sounds a bit like a porno track mixed in with a bit of a bong hit.....

Fucking amazing song!!!

So abstract and new sonically, but so easy to listen to at the same time.

This is where I like U2 the most. When they take experimental approaches and sounds and make it immediately enjoyable.

I love Eno, but it's a challenge to appreciate much of what he does. True experimentation always forces me to listen until I can like it and make sense of it. I like this at first listen, but I like it more as it grows on me.

This is fabulous as is this motherfucking album.

Very Passengers....... but better (this track).

Tripoli is the song Bono is singing with a guitar in the video you see of U2 recording in Morroco supposedly. So no it isn't that odd of a statement.

Good God. That snippet cannot possibly be Tripoli.

This will be my definitive "why Tripoli and Fez/Being Born must be the same song"-post.

TRIPOLI AND FEZ/BEING BORN IS THE SAME SONG

Look at the descriptions for Tripoli:

"This strikingly experimental song lurches between disparate styles, including near-operatic choral music, Zooropa-style electronics, and churning arena rock."

"And the ambitious possible album opener "Tripoli," which violently lurches between different sections."

"Bono talks about a song called Tripoli which is a guy on a motorcycle, a Moraccan french cop, whos going AWOL. He drives though France and Spain down to this village outside of Cadiz where you can actually see the fires of Africa burning."

Please note the last one. Now read the lyrics for Fez/Being Born:

It should be obvious by now.

Chromium Chords -> Tripoli -> Fez/Being Born

Either this song or WAS may have surprised me the most. I was expecting a sort of mid-album instrumental filler (e.g. "4th of July")... not what we got, at all. It's a very interesting piece :applaud:

New age zooropa!!!!! It's fascinating and experimental, hopefully the album later this year will be like this bc Eno said they left some experimental stuff off!!!! I need to listen to it 10 more times to really appreciate it!

It's different and I love it. Weird intro, haunting vocals. They need to do more stuff like this and less poppy nonsense like Stand Up Comedy. That's the song every half rate twit will be singing too.

I can hear them playing this on the speakers to start the live show for sure.

i've been waiting for U2 to make this song for 15 years.

This reminds me of Zooropa the song in some way........I think it's the part where Fez morphs into Being born but also the feel I get off it - It has that whole other-sound kinda sound that Zooropa the album was full of. I'm just loving this album overall.......I keep changing my mind about which is my favourite, there's so much choice. I don't ever remember it being quite so like this listening to a new U2 album. :applaud:

Agreed, the segue from fez > being born to start the show, or even one of the encores, would just be amazing...

yeah just imagine Fez playing on the speakers and then bam the band is there playing Being Born, and that somehow segues into Magnificent or Boots

In my opinion, this is the best U2 song of the decade.

I really hope we hear the other experimental stuff that Eno said the band left off the album now.

Well, if they have another album waiting in the wings, maybe it will be even more daring that this one and we will get to hear the others. Zooropa was a lot more experimental that Achtung Baby was. Lets hope they do the same this time around. I would think that by releasing a second album relatively quickly, theres less pressure and fanfare, so it gives them more freedom to experiment. Then again, maybe we wont get another anytime soon

i like this song, i love how it opens, it's soo creative
i love the sounds and the way it kinda sounds like you're underwater :)

Man, I was thinking the exact same thing. It would have the same kinda affect that Depeche Mode did on the SOFAD tour when they opened with Higher Love. A really powerful builder, but not an obvious choice

Can you all hear parts of different songs on the album thrown in the intro here? I get the feeling "being born" may be a reference to the creative process. Like all these ideas came out Fez and were born into this album.
