OH MY AMAZING

BAD WAS SO DELICIOUSLY WONDERFUL

LOVED HOW LARRY ENDED AND THEN BONO WAS LIKE, "NO WAY! WE"RE STILL GOING!"

THAT WAS AWESOME

That version of Bad was the best I've heard from the band in forever. Look at the passion. Look at Bono getting into the guitar, Adam throwing in the extra notes...thats what U2 is about. So great to see them all having fun performing the song.

^ first time this tour , and we were right on the onther side of the back of the stage to witness that. He was so enjoying himself...
So happy on stage , Oh and the band drank wine together becuase they have been together for 35 years that day. It was such a special night.
This band is so lovely

 Okay, so yeah, that's quite a bit different than the original "Bono falls backward into crowd" or whatever the Tweet was from yesterday.

It was another great show yesterday. I was 3rd row center, so an excellent spot. Had a great time, together with a cousin (or rather, wife of a cousin) and her sister. It was the first U2 show for my cousin's wife (and the 1st GA for her sister, having seen them first last year in Amsterdam).

BTW, some more snippets being played: Rain after Beautiful Day (so the snippet after One was more like a reprise :) ) and Many Rivers To Cross after ISHFWILF (Bono messed it up a bit). The band was quite loose, at times rather sloppy. But they had a great time and so had we. :)

Angel of Harlem and Bad do not make up for lack of new material????

I beg to differ...

Strictly speaking ... no. Because they are classics and have been played many times.

BUT I'm still loving the set and I'm happy they brought these two songs back.

Just saying that they shouldn't drop new songs to bring "old" songs back.

I completely agree with Last Unicorn. I really wanted to hear the new songs (North Star, Mercy, Every Breaking Wave) and/or Mothers Of The Disappeared. These four are songs I've never heard before, unlike Angel Of Harlem and Bad (hence me not including Glastonbury in the new song list, heard it at the Hannover concert). Instead, the new songs were dropped for two classics that have been played many times before. So yeah, personally speaking Bad and Angel Of Harlem do not make up for lack of new material. :)

"Bono lets himself fall backward into the crowd"

WHHHUUUUUUTTTT????

ETA: I call bull shit on this one. But if not, I want pics NAO!!!

Ha. Nice call but he totally did that! Sadly on the wrong side of the back of the stage as I was on the other!!!!!!!

Security had a tight grip on him though, so don't worry.

Oh, so the Youtube clip posted was of a different moment during the song? Now I want to see the actual "fall"!

What does the baby say? "Planet Earth is blue, and there's nothing we can do"?

That and Turn on your radio, what time is it in the world.. and I think one other thing I can't remember right now.

I'm slowly catching up, gotta go soon. Haven't seen that clip you mentioned yet Cori, but he did lean pretty damn far in from what I could see!

Cori, I think the clip just displays this moment. Bono doesn't "jump" into the crowd (security wouldn't let him anyway ... those guys looked frantic!), but there's a brief moment where he leans backwards (hello, bad back ) into the crowd. Anyway, that's more direct contact with the audience than he's had for a very long time.

Cool, thanks for the clarification. The reactions were pretty funny yesterday when that Tweet came through.

I had to :giggle: a bit when I saw that clip because of how carefully it all needs to go down now for him to get his physical contact with the audience fix. Very :cute: though, and still totally

What's with the sudden uptake in applause?
The band all had some Champagne that Bono had sprayed during Vertigo. They drank a sip onstage, though I think Adam's glass was filled with water.
I reckon it was because the band turned 34. :) Though technically I think it was the 25th or 26th that Larry posted the note, but what the heck.

It was. He didn't exactly fall but the video is not at the angle that was displayed on the screen. From Bono's perspective he did really drop himself backwards into the crowd. :)

Well, I think we are coming from different places regarding this point.

I am not at the shows, only listening to them from whatever feed becomes available. I really like the new songs but I don't have an issue with them being replaced by a few surprises.

The soundcheck secrecy certainly elevated the surprise for me. Angel of Harlem was most welcome but hearing those first few notes of Bad...that song will never lose its magic.

I understand your viewpoint and Last Unicorn's. Mine is different. Surely we can find common ground...if not, then let's agree to disagree ;)

I hope you get to see MOTD. It is an experience!

i was so lucky we were there both nights, so we had north star and mercy and i expected a switch for the second night with probably every breaking wave and hoped for that, but i so loved hearing angel of harlem instead and BAD, well that song still gives me goosebumps and it made that gig very special. for me, after dublin last year this was their second best gig. they had lots of fun, very good vibe on stage and the whole audience as well.
loved the long long aplause and yelling at the first night.

No problem here :) I'm all for them adding Bad and other songs to the set, even if these songs are not new, but I just think it's a shame they drop the new stuff for it and not some of the old songs who get played as staples this tour. I really expected them to play at least one of the very new songs, like Every Breaking Wave, but the set is fine for me. I just hope it isn't an indication for the tour's general developement, dropping more and more new songs and adding more old songs, I'd hate to see that.

Personally, I wouldn't hearing Bad in Rome :)

Bad.... Anji will be pleased

OH MY GOD WAS I :hyper:

OMG Jem, wild, GG & anji & Louanne

must be freaking right

Wild & I were for sure! The others were in the pit. After mega drool sesh in the pit the day before, we NEEDED CLAW PORN

:hmm:
Wonder if we could talk a certain someone into this?

OMFG there was a Gorilla there the first night

Brian was SERIOUSLY pissed at Bono going into the crowd like that, from the angle of the video you could not see Brian holding Bono up to make sure he did not fall!! I bet Larry put Bono on the naughty step after that gig

I did a little snippet (MUST buy bigger memory card) of Bono's opera in Miss Sarajevo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcWyv8cgqpo

More snippets in there, plus a full mercy from the night before!

GUTTED they are over for me now!! But so cool to meet new Interferencers in Brussels :sexywink:

Agreed on Every Breaking Wave. Hey, we found common ground. Wait a sec...we found common ground on Every Breaking Wave?! Ha, that is funny!!

Dropping new songs for old songs...on a permanent basis, I would agree. On a once-in-a-while basis...I am leaning toward disagreeing. Listening to the show today, I noticed that as Bad starts you can hear shouts of joy coming from (what sounds like) way in the back of the stadium, then the entire place just erupts! It is a goose bump inducing moment that still resonates. If new songs had to be dropped for that experience, I don't have an issue.

Oh, and Last Unicorn, I want to apologize for not responding to your post. I was concerned this was going to escalate...and, well, I am no keyboard warrior, I like harmony. It was rude of me and I apologize.

I hope you get to see EBW in Rome :)

yeah well it was pouring with rain and they decided to play 2 well known songs to keep the crowd energised with the bad weather- if they'd done EBW, or Mercy it would have people heading for shelter and the momentum of the show would have nose-dived. I'd personally choose AOH and Bad over Mercy any day of the week

As for the other comment- the other well known songs are played because they get the crowd going- WOWY, ISHWILF, BD, IWF, NYD, Pride, SBS, Streets- always get a big reaction and being in a crowd singing any of those songs is spine tingling

It's amazing that I'm actually the one here arguing for more new stuff and less staples, usually it's the other way round

In Munich it was raining, at least for some parts of the show, and they still played the new and unreleased stuff. I don't really know if weather is a big factor for U2 at all. I understand they play a more or less "greatest hits" set in cities where they haven't played before. I was actually defending this decision for Athens, Istanbul and Moscow when many other people on various U2 boards slammed the band for the "boring" set. I just feel in Brusseles there was no need to throw out all the new stuff, it's a step in the wrong direction, IMO. I hope that when the tour will have reached Australia it won't be a total greatest hits tour. U2 shouldn't stop experimenting with new stuff and continue to show some courage by playing unreleased songs. It was one of their greatest decisions ever to do that for this year's tour.
