All 15 year olds were born!
But seriously, I had some thoughts about 15 years ago in comparison to today, especially how it relates to other bands that fans of U2 like. For example, Radiohead seems to be a popular group amongst U2 fans. I don't know if I'd know a Radiohead song if I heard one. I'm still liking the groups from the 80s.
So, journey with me, if you would, back to the year 1986. What groups were "lumped together" with U2? What other groups did U2 fans also enjoy? If the internet were around back then, what groups would we be discussing?
Some that I remember clearly U2 fans enjoying back then are:
The Alarm
The Call
Big Country
Simple Minds
and to a lesser extent,
Sinead O'Connor
Not only did we the fans enjoy these bands, but Bono was friends with these bands. There is, of course, that trio version of "Knocking On Heaven's Door" sung by Bono, Mike Peters (Alarm) and Stuart Adamson (Big Country).
