Bets Are on for Next Year's Slane

You’re a Star charity special winner David Mitchell and veteran republican rockers the Wolfe Tones are being tipped to get the nod from Lord Henry Mountcharles for Slane 2006.

With thousands of rap fans facing up to a Summer without Eminem, punters were being given the chance to have a flutter on who will lead the line up at next year’s gig.

Favourites to get approval from Lord Henry, who was said to be fuming after Eminen’s cancellation, include festival kings Green Day, Foo Fighters and Los Angeles’ finest The Killers.

All three bands rocked tens of thousands of festival-goers at Oxegen earlier this Summer and are being hotly tipped to draw 80,000 fans to the castle grounds next year.

Also in the mix, according to bookies Boylesports, are rock legends U2 at 16/1, Manchester’s most famous sons Oasis at a tempting 10/1, and the king of angst Marilyn Manson at 16/1.

While Fair City star Mitchell and the Tones’ brand of ballads are rank outsiders to bring thousands to the Meath village, Lord Henry could use the next 12 months to tempt Robbie Williams or Chris Martin’s much loved Coldplay on stage.

For those who like an outside bet the chances of Pink Floyd reforming again and lighting up the Boyne valley are a 25/1 shot along with two of America’s finest exports REM and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

And even if the injured Queen of Pop Madonna has recovered after falling from her horse the experts have her down as a rank outsider at 50/1.

The amphitheatre-like estate in Co Meath has previously played host to several top acts since 1981 including the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and U2.
