I will miss it all anyway as there is no chance I am staying up until 5am, so will either wake up with a nice surprise or will look and think meh

No way the guitar tech would say about his band that they basically suck.... this is ridiculous.
However it might also mean that the songs are more complex than we think.... which to me is a good news.

Let s see....

And at least if they are rehearsing the songs then they are essentially finished and we can safely say the album can't be too far away... I still think there is a chance this year.

Also if it was said there is still a chance Dallas doesn't want to give any surprise away

IF (massive if) there is ANY truth to this, it means they are very close to an album, and they have months to nail the songs before a proper tour. Nothing would preclude them releasing anything.

Found a bit more detail to that earlier post on rehearsals, over on U2start:

Report from Las Vegas by our friend Jeff (anstratdubh1979) who got it from another friend:

Spoiler (click to toggle)

"U2 Vegas update:
The band just finished rehearsal at 11:15pm here at the T-Mobile Arena.
Rocko said he was here for 14 hours.
Dallas said they "tried practicing the new songs but can't get it together".
Terry Lawless said they practiced all day yesterday in Burbank, got 3 hours of sleep, then came to Las Vegas this morning and played all day inside the arena.
Sam O'Sullivan said he loves the new arena, the acoustics are great. Much better than the MGM Grand here in Vegas, where they normally played in the past.
They're all exhausted and will go straight to bed tonight and sleep all day tomorrow and come back here tomorrow night.
No sound check tomorrow, this was it tonight.
Just met Adam, he took a couple of photos and shook everyone's hands. There are twenty fans here.
Security kicked us out before we can meet the other band members"
So...
1. No new songs.
2. Tour announcement doesn't appear to happen before January"

Take it with a pinch of salt but hey.

I still would find it hard to believe that they only started rehearsing new songs the day before. But if there is any truth in any of the above (BIG IF) they mention new songs plural.

OK so there's so much wrong with this.

Just throw it out folks. Thus didn't happen.

First, they were still finishing the stage today so they couldn't have been soundchecking all day.

Second, even if I'm wrong and it was finished, they have so many acts they wouldn't let just U2 have the stage all day.

Third, the staff/talent entrance to this arena is in the back in a large fenced off area off Frank Sinatra Dr. I have serious doubts that 20 people were just allowed through the gates and close enough to the exit, and I have equal doubts that all these people, including Adam, came out one of the non staff/talent exits because the other exits of the arena empty out into The Park, a large open air entertainment zone connected to The Strip that's open whether there are events taking place or not.

And Dallas and Terry would not readily give that information out to fans waiting outside at the end if what's been a very secretive stretch.

And, uh, pictures with Adam? Well it seems providing one would be a super swell way to prove that your story wasn't a pile of dung.

So let's just toss this one in the garbage.

They might not play new songs tonight, but it's not cause of anything that was said in this "story"

Wow so that IMO rips apart the story altogether

I have a feeling U2 is gonna surprise us by playing the whole album Songs of Experience live at the event. And at the end of the concert the band tells us you can download the album for free.

(ok, in my dreams...)

Maybe it's the same "Dallas", that was hanging out in the red zone prior to a 360 show instead of doing his job, that told a certain posterrr the band were rehearsing Acrobat?!

Sent from my iPhone using U2 Interference

U2 were rehearsing a medley of Acrobat and Heartland until Dallas spilled the beans.

iHeart will now just be a twenty minute extended mix of Stand Up Comedy, followed by a ragtime version of Streets and a snippet of In a Little While.

You mean the song that a goodly portion of the crowd walked out on every night on 360 tour? That's the song you think would have made a great first single?

Can't speak for everyone, but we walked out during MOS to beat traffic at the end of a long day.... not because of the song.

A fan photo with Adam doesn't validate all the nonsense in that story. He might have said hi, posed, and walked on

Sent from my iPhone using U2 Interference
Well it validates at least part of it, and this from someone who literally said to toss the entire thing out 5 minutea ago.

I still don't believe for a second that Dallas and Terry would say those things unless they were purposefully trying to mess with people. Also can't imagine they'd give U2 the stage for the entire day.

I have personally experienced Dallas Schoo's misdirection, so I know he's a liar liar pants on fire.

Again do you think he could be putting people off the "surprise" bit of it?

Why? How does the fact he met people validate that bullshit story?

Sent from my iPhone using U2 Interference

It doesn't. Like I said, even if it's true dallas said what he said, it was at best misdirection because 1) he would not let on that U2 were trying to play new music and failed if that was in fact the case; and 2) U2 would not wait till the day before the show to make major setlist decisions based on rehearsals on that day.

This says nothing about whether we get new music today, only that this bit of information is codswallop.

Like someone else said here, just throw this out. Bathwater, not baby.

You really really want to believe the narrative you like the most, huh?

Why do you say that? I have said multiple times that I am a genuine 50-50 on new music, and even now if I'm honest, I just don't believe they will do it. None of that changes the fact that third hand narratives citing multiple bits of info from multiple people in the inner circle is totally unbelievable, and the fact that some people met Adam doesn't change that.

I could easily picture U2 trying (!!) to play their new songs for the first time (?) live .. and cannot get it together ... totally U2 ..

On the other hand .. Dallas could misdirect fans .. and U2 play some (2-3) SOE songs .. and we get the album straight afterwards ....

Actually I enjoy this now .. because everything is possible

Again do you think he could be putting people off the "surprise" bit of it?

Sent from my iPhone using U2 Interference
At this point I have no idea.

Common sense would say yes, that they wouldn't get this far and then go "eh, we can't play it live so we're not doing anything" and have their crew blabbering that all over The Strip...

but again, it's U2. Anything is possible.

I'm back to depression again, don't think we'll get anything new now. :-(

It really does sound like misdirection.

If they're in the mixing stages, they must have been very close to finishing. Playing iHeart for radio promotion would've surely pushed them to completion. But then on top of that, the idea that they'd bail because they can't play the songs just sounds too ridiculous to be true. Even for U2, I feel like they'd take a little more care in getting things prepared for tonight. So this report sounds like misdirection.

But yeah, it is U2. The super bowl thing shows they commit to nothing.

... And it's also still possible this report isn't true.
