It's possible, but i think it would be a lot more likely if the show was broadcast live. This won't be like Glastonbury or the Apple conference - it's not live, and it's nowhere near as big or as well known.

It makes sense as a platform to perform/promote the single, but not to launch it to the world. I think it would make more sense to do that in the days beforehand.
Well... technically speaking it's no different than the Apple conference, which wasn't broadcast on TV but was streamable via the interwebs.

iHeart is available to stream live

I'm pretty sure it is going to be streamed live...

Also U2 is still listed as the first headliner on their website. It's already past noon in the east coast on Monday week-of, if they were going to call it off the PR would have and should have already been released. Cancelling a gig like this makes no sense just on a whim. Whether or not they show up with something new is probably the confusion.

I don't think after:

-U2 releasing SOI via phone (bad PR according to the media/general public)
-Bono getting in a bike accident
-Having to cancel their HBO live concert because of terrorist attacks

canceling a gig 5 days before would be the best U2 thing to do. These guys just need to go out and rock Vegas on a Friday night. Show these youngsters how to put on a live show.

Really doubt there backing out of performing.

Mark and i are going to see the bew Bridget Jones baby movie tonight at Epsom Odeon!!

Hidden message in this tweet is no album, single, or iHeart performance this year! :censored:

Ah, didn't know that! I thought it was super-exclusive and any footage would be shown days later.

Nonetheless, how big is this iheart gig? I'd not heard of it before i saw on this forum that U2 were headlining. If it's significantly smaller than Glasto/Apple, I think that would still factor into a live debut.

But I'm more onboard with the possibility of new material debuting at the gig now.

Word is that the band were so impressed with Corey Feldman's Today show performance that they are worried about matching its brilliance...

[seriously, I just saw that Feldman clip for the first time today and it is the worst thing I've ever heard, bar none.]

I know just unreal how they were allowed to perform that live.

The gig itself is a one-stage/multi-artist arena show with some daytime performances by up and comers. But what makes the festival so big is that iHeart is the leading radio conglomerate in the US so subsidiary iHeart stations (ex: Q104.3, Z100 in New York) in every niche (pop, rock, adult alternative, country, etc.) across the US have been playing frequent radio ads promoting the event and performers.

It's a huge promotional vehicle for artists shiling their new stuff to an arena of people and then nationwide to radio listeners and TV viewers. Based on U2 being the ONLY artist performing without new material announced, it seems highly likely they agreed to do it as part of a big rollout. It's troubling if suddenly that isn't the plan..

Wow, good point. As you say, this show is all about promoting new material. Getting this close to the gig with nothing announced makes it seem more and more likely that U2 is unveiling something in direct partnership with iheart radio (if they release anything at all).

If they don't cancel and don't release anything before it, surely they have to play something new? I just can't see them playing a greatest hits, it would be crazy.

I saw it and it was epically bad and so many people are talking about it (Facebook, Twitter even here :) and then I realized....EVERYONE is talking about a Corey Feldman song....an 80s b-list teen movie star released a song 30 years after his star burned out and it has been trending for days.

Dude is either a crazed lunatic or he just pulled off the most brilliant marketing move in a long time. Personally, I think it's a little of both.

I'd say they could still cancel tomorrow, but I'd say by Wednesday they're at the point of no return. What the actual fuck is wrong with this band? If they were worried about not getting the album done in time, why take a 2 month vacation?

I think they'd play a best of set before cancelling the show altogether. If they do cancel, there must be something seriously wrong.

Just man up and play the damn single.

Which judging by the posts on instagram etc there is nothing at all wrong

I just went through iHeart's Facebook, and it doesn't seem like they've promoted the band's involvement anytime recently. I wonder why?

They seem to focus on one artist every day. And they post short countdown videos where U2 is always featured in the visuals.

Ok, i just had to watch the Corey Feldman video.

What in the world was that nonsense? I think i should feel bad for him. That song was sooo bad and that performance was so weird....

Honestly, I can't wait to pop in here on Wednesday and see that there is no news. We're almost at interference gold level already. The panic is palpable.

C'moooon let's not get bogged down with this. They're clearly rehearsing and have something ready. :hyper:
