@iYup, Re: that Train Christmas album, I heard a song from it at the T-Mobile store tonight. Joy to the World. It was terribly annoying and pointless...until they started snippeting Calling All Angels out of nowhere. Then it reached a new level of cringe.

I nearly left but I had been waiting an hour at that point, so I dealt with it.

I like both of those songs, though....

Is it bad of me that I like Sleater-Kinney but the more I pay attention to their actual politics the more they irritate me? Something Corin Tucker came out with a while back in re. Hillary Clinton just stuck in my ass sideways. A neo con, a warmonger, a blue dog Democrat... but she's a woman, so yay progress?

Probably like Carrie more, on the whole. Portlandia was great in its early seasons.

I haven't listened to Sleater-Kinney but I can sympathise with this.

Forgot to mention I saw Julia Holter on Saturday night. I fuckinggggggggggggggggggg love her. She played about an hour. I only know the latest album, which I like, but still find a bit impenetrable. Not exactly easy listening. Highlights were my fav songs from the album - Lucette Stranded on the Island, Have You in My Wilderness, Betsy on the Roof, which she closed with. Lucette was absolutely stunning. You look at bands who don't play certain songs and it's like "cos they're hard to play" well look at this song. It translates beautifully live, the drummer playing all these kooky little things to recreate the atmosphere that's found on the record. It was captivating, as was Betsy. Atmosphere, that was the thing about the gig that was so impressive. To capture the depth of the atmosphere from the record live was a pretty good effort I felt. Girlfriend loved it too despite the fact she only somewhat knew Sea Calls Me Home cos they play it at her work.

And the creepy shit - sooooooooooo hot and cute and lovely. Came to the stage in a flannelette shirt with her band (drums, double bass, viola) and then forget something so she ran off stage and came back. She has a lot of banter and she is sexy as FUCK, the way she sings, facial expressions all that.

I think all of their releases have something for everyone, including Barking (which seems to be maligned relative to the rest of their discography) which has some enthralling tracks.

They've released a trailer too which sounds promising. And then there's also the Second Toughest In The Infants reissue.

I will start that in the next day or two. Just finished Man in the High Castle, and got Netflix working again on my Roku. Whoot.

Did you like Man in the High Castle? I had lower expectations, so I ended up enjoying it. I love alternative histories. That said, some of the characters (especially the supposed good guys) didn't appeal to me all that much. Season 2 should be interesting, though.

Saw CHVRCHES last night. I'd seen them a couple of times before, but I was struck by how much better Lauren Mayberry is as a frontwoman. She's really owning the stage now. Also, her stage banter is great, almost as good as Guy Garvey. The new songs translate live, very well.

Baio opened for them and he was fun.

Underworld are releasing a new album next year in March. I'm excited.

YESSSS. Especially coming on the heels of Karl Hyde's collaborations with Brian Eno last year.

I love early nineties Underworld, but in fairness their 2000s stuff is pretty good too. So that'll be nice.

Is this some roundabout way of dissing their most acclaimed albums?

The run of Dubnobasswithmyheadman, Second Toughest In The Infants, and Beaucoup Fish is very impressive.

i notice this with a lot of people in general, so it sadly doesn't surprise me.

Second Toughest in the Infants is one of the finest electronic albums of the 90s. Putting a couple of mammoth tracks right up front like that was badass.

I have never shown interest in Built to Spill because of the idiotic name (a ridiculous reason, I know), but after hearing some of their stuff lately I think I need to check them out.

Keep It Like a Secret and Perfect From Now On need to be in everybody's library, especially if they have the slightest interest in alternative or indie rock.

LeMel, what you think about that interface/monitor/microphone bundle I posted last night?

I know you told me about that Boss 16 track recorder thing. I'm intrigued by that as well. But that Scarlett bundle thing seems like a good deal. I don't know.

omg iyup hat3 evryting to

Keep It Like A Secret is one of my all time favorite albums. I actually just listened to their most recent album for the first time in a few months today.

The new Baroness single is awesome.

No, it's not a roundabout way of anything. In fact, while I'm not an expert on all their discography, the first album you named was very much in my mind when I posted (from 1994, no?). So it was my roundabout way of saying I love Dubnobasswithmyheadman a lot.

If you have trouble with The Man In The High Castle as a tv series (everything is a tv series now, apparently), try the novel. It definitely peters out on a WTF note.

The opening two tracks deserve as much praise as possible, but I would say Stagger is very much on the same level as a closer. Overall, in its entirety, I think it's even better than Dubnobass - which is a masterpiece in itself.

The first part of this is true for me as well.

Sent from my iPad using U2 Interference

If it's any consolation, I doubt I'll ever listen to that Kendrick Lamar album because it has one of the worst titles I've ever heard.

Looks like a great value to me. Remember that purchasing an audio interface will require the purchase of some software to edit and EQ the audio with also (a DAW), something akin to Garage Band or Reaper, depending on your OS.

A solid state recorder like a a BOSS product is simpler for me because it's second nature as I've been using it so long and I feel the interface is incredibly intuitive, but there's something to be said for having a studio at the same computer you already work at. I'm assuming you have a desktop? It's a pain in the ass to edit on a laptop.

You get what you pay for, but I guess everyone's gotta start somewhere. It also depends on your computer. I went with Apogee and Blue Microphones with a MacBook Pro and never looked back.

I have seen tons of this 2-input Focusrite interface and i hear it's good. For the beginner, of course. Tourist, what do you record with those mic's?
