If the Super Bowl ad exists, it should be a bunch of the best pieces of the album combined and just one line saying:

Go to u2.com / Download / NOW!

If the game is boring, it could be even bigger than the game itself, and make everyone talk about the band

Aha! Here's an explanation for the album being moved to early this year

Deadline:You’ve written for many movies before, but what made this one so special — particularly with the pressure of writing about someone like Nelson Mandela?
Bono:You don’t want to let him down. Our first thought when they asked us was, “Can we do it?” We had some time, but it meant putting our album backa bit, and there was some worry with the management about that. But it’s one of those things you can’t turn down, actually. And although there were some butterflies and a little bit of nausea, we just felt we had to do it, but not to blow it. We thought they would probably want a big anthem or one of those political songs. That just felt too obvious for us. But we were so surprised to discover that the film, as well as being a big historical drama that it has to be, is made much more interesting by being a love story — a very complicated love story, but a love story.

It seems fairly plain that Ordinary Love has no thunder to steal. I imagine the single will come at the exact time that will maximize its audience, since everything rides on its success and virtually nothing on OL.

I mean, I like Ordinary Love and all but obviously it was an afterthought that didn't really fit into the plan for the making of or the marketing of the album. Edge said as much at the Long Walk to Freedom premiere. It was a side bit that has very little to do with the future of the band.

Well, if Ordinary Love gets an Oscar nom (with seems more than likely with Harvey Weinstein championing it), believe me it'll have plenty of "thunder" over the next two months. Pretty much every interview U2 partake in will focus on the song. Releasing the first single during that window is simply counter-productive for them.

It bugs me the way they frame Bono's comments as "insisting", implying that he may be delusional or desperate. Insisting is inherently defensive, and pieces that assume the speaker has a solid case frame it by saying "assert" rather than "insist".

Yes, it may be growing. Whoever called it an earworm is totally right. I just mean that OL was not the anchor of their master plan for marketing this record. It's an accessory project that may work out very well for them, but I would be really surprised if they allowed the marketing of the first single to be less than ideal to accommodate it.

Germans! Help with this horrific Google translation!

If one thinks in particular of the current "secondary activity" by Brian Burton, however, one can not avoid another head scratching - the Good still cares just namely along the way to the production of the new U2 album. What is there really the state of things? You could hear even that a certain Chris Martin frequently been spotted with in the studio. What is truth? Brian Burton smiles: "Real To this end, wants and may I say nothing?." Sometimes a smile is worth a thousand words We are strained..

Nothing new or relevant here:

Denkt man da vor allem an die derzeitige „Nebentätigkeit“ von Brian Burton, kommt man jedoch um ein weiteres Kopfkratzen nicht herum – der Gute kümmert sich gerade nämlich so ganz nebenbei noch um die Produktion des neuen U2-Albums. Wie ist da eigentlich der Stand der Dinge? Man hörte gar, dass ein gewisser Chris Martin des Öfteren mit im Studio gesichtet wurde. Was ist da dran? Brian Burton schmunzelt: "Echt? Dazu kann, will und darf ich nichts sagen.“ Manchmal sagt ein Lächeln mehr als tausend Worte. Wir sind gespannt.

English:

If you think of Brian Burton's current side project, you can't halp but wonder: The guy is actually taking care of the production of U2's new album. So what's the news about this one? There were reports that a certain Chris Martin has been visiting the recording studio from time to time. What was that all about? Brian Burton is smiling. "Really? That's something I cannot and don't want to comment on!" Sometimes a smile says more than a thousand words. We are curious.

Kinda weird how 1 source reports the whole superbowl thing and the online press didn't pick up on it, yet when we talked about random gossip here it did reach some news sites. Man the internet is weird.

I'm sure Donkey PUnch will receive a 5/5 from Rolling stone.

So when will this Oscar/golden globes nonsense be over with?

I have no interest in U2's campaign the finally win these awards. I just know they delayed their album 6 months for one "average at best" song.

I'm sure U2 pretty much have an interest in winning these awards. I know I'd have an interest in that, too. Though I have a feeling they won't win anyway :)

Is it confirmed that they'll be at the Golden Globes? Only visiting or also performing? Would be nice to have a live performance of OL.

I just saw/heard something odd today. Ordinary Love is playing in Brazilian radios. And yeah, the last "new" U2 song that I heard in radio was Get On Your Boots.

Seems like they are trying to get U2 in the spotlight before the new album, creating an subconscious presence of them, instead of just trhow it when the album / single is released..

It may not seem much, but hearing OL in Brazilian radios is something really different these days... Who knows... I'm starting to like this vibe ?

So in other words, Brazilian radio hasn't played any new U2 songs since… the last new U2 album.

OL is still being played a lot here, it's doing well in the charts and for the end of the year charity request it came in at number 5(week before christmas you can request your song for a donation, in the end they compile a chart with the most requested songs). So I'd say it's doing well to generate some new interest. :)

I actually heard "Ordinary Love" in the electronics section at Walmart. Then I saw a 300lbs woman with her belly hanging out.

What I really meant is that discussing if fat people are lovable makes you guys sound much douchier than you usually do.
