Just wondering because, I remembering reading an article snippet into the making of the NLOTH album, and I think Edge asks him to try again singing a particular part of a song. I can't remember exactly what song or what article I read this is in all I know is I read it somewhere lol.

Anyway, my point is do you think the band have pushed Bono on the last 3 albums? I'm just wondering because there was a fear at one point which Bono said he was scared of being kicked out of the band. Was it because of his charity work, or his voice? or perhaps both? It just seems to me that sometimes the band push Bono to try harder than what he gives, not sure if it's because it isn't already good enough or...

So anyway, I'd like to hear you opinions.

I am sure they all push each other hard.....they expect the best out of each member. I believe it shows in their work.

It certainly wasn't because of his singing or voice, I don't even think they really were close to throwing him out because of his charity work. No member will ever be thrown out of the band, they all belong there, and they have an enormous amount of affection and respect for each other. Actually I think they all push each other and it's good that way, this is how a band works, they even said so in interviews. Personally I also think that Bono might be quite a pusher, he just seems like that to me, I think he's also pushing himself hard.

hehe, JCOSTER that's quite funny.

I was just curious to know what truth was in the stuff about him being kicked out because I heard that Edge threatened him and that if he didn't shape up (not sure whether this was in regards to his voice or charity work) he would be out - but there's probably very little truth in that.

Oh and also, please no dirty play here with my thread title, that's for the plebans in the pleba section.

As soon as any of the bandmembers get´s thrown out U2 will cease to exist simple as that.

And it won´t happen anyway. But im sure Bono´s busy schedule has been an issue sometimes but they have learnt to live with it as well.

During the BBC interview recently, I got a kick out of Adam's comment: (paraphrasing from memory) - "yeah, Bono travels around a lot for his political work, so he spends many hours on airplanes, where he gets a chance to write lyrics." Far be it from me to profess to understand Adam Clayton's passive aggressive tendencies, but it almost sounded like a veiled, good-natured swipe at Bono's absence. Or maybe I'm reading wayyyyy too much into it, lol

Exactly, and I hope that day never happens - when a band member gets thrown out - it's very unlikely that will happen anyway (I hope).

I think the intention of this thread, more than anything was to see the truth behind some of the things I read about. As any fan of U2 will know, Bono is a very busy man, and he's not lazy when it comes to working - so I kinda knew it would be hard for him to juggle things around with him doing so much - but it seems he knows how to put aside other things so he can be with U2, which is good.

Stop it! Dammit! You know this is not the pla.... Oh do as you will. Damn Plebans! :|

Yeah, you may be reading way too much into it... I heard the comment as a compliment rather than a swipe, like he's juggling so much and still gets everything done...

There's a joke here, but I'm too classy to make it. :)

Oh, God. Now you've got me thinking about it... and it kinda turns me on. Mmmm... Hard Bono. Talk about elevation!

Seriously, though. If Bono is working too hard, and I haven't heard the new album, but I don't think it shows. Perhaps he's working too hard to come up with perfect ways to dumb things down and sell records, but, ever since "a singing bird in an open cage who will only fly for freedom", I've had my doubts.

"Fast Cars" has been one of the few songs that has had good lyrics. Ditto Stuck in a Moment.

You're funneh. :)

I think, I should perhaps have thought it through when I gave the thread this title.

From what I've read over the years, U2 (not just Bono) have probably always worked too hard in the studio. They spend too much time playing with mixes, twiddling knobs and in recent times changing producers and starting all over again. They should try making an album in 6 months. Can't be that hard!

Do that, and you either get lucky (Zooropa) or... not so much (October).

hehe, yeah I can see your point. October isn't a terrible album but it could've been so much more. I actually feel October was definitely lacking content and had so much potential. Zooropa on the other hand was indeed lucky, but I think they had enough content from AB which they just tweaked and moved into Zooropa.

Yeah, I know Sinatra/Stay came from the AB sessions, along with probably some others... including the first 'wake up dead man' lyric which went through the Zooropa sessions and finally materialized on Pop (in a very different form - the first time Bono sang 'wake up dead man' was on a The Fly/Ultraviolet/Lady With The Spinning Head outtake).
