I really don't see how the lottery thing is supposed to work in stadiums (at least not in Europe). at the concerts in germany last time they barely had time to check everyones tickets, much less scan them.

Apologize if this has been posted somewhere else:

"Sometimes we read snips and tidbits around the web about concert tours that may or may not be true, but they are always interesting. We bring these juicy nuggets of information to you with a warning that we don’t claim any of them to be true, we don’t back up any of the claims, and we strongly recommend that that you wait for official announcements. That being said, here are some rumored locations:

U2 probable US cities:
New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, San Diego, Philadelphia, Dallas, Phoenix, Kansas City, St Louis, and Boston"

This was on a broker site. My personal feeling is NO WAY they play Kansas City and St. Louis. (Two weaker markets for them.) At least one of those should be Denver instead.

In contrast, I spend $200+ for an actual seat at another Boston show. I got this through my U2.com subscription. As a result, not only did I have an actual seat - meaning no pushing, no shoving, no short people asking me to move - but I was ridiculously close - closer than I was for any of the GA shows. Sure, I saw Adam walk by real close while in Chicago when I had GA. I saw Bono walk just as close many times with my seat in Boston. Plus, I didn't have to wait outside all day. And I was able to sit down before the concert started. I could get drinks and not worry about losing my place. I could use the bathroom and go right back to my place.

Out of curiosity, what seats did you get? (Like what row and side?) I tried to figure out the best place to get seats last tour - the closest you could get - and I ended up wildly missing the mark... Sigh.

Also, add me to the list of people dismayed by the return of the lottery system. I hope they completely revamp it to make it fair and legitimate... so people can't cheat and sneak into the ellipse - or whatever it's going to be - by reusing old wristbands........... *cough* An easy fix would be to time-stamp those things for each show.

Most likely the Chicago show will be the closest show to my native Ohio on this leg of the tour. I have to be a groomsman in a wedding on September 12th. Dammit!!!!!!!!!

Eh maybe they'll break up... they only began dating in November, got engaged after 2 months... he's 26 and she's 35... it could happen!

Sorry you had crappy GA experiences. :(

I'll be doing at least one show in seats. My mom wants to go, but doesn't want to do GA. So I'm compromising and doing 1 show in seats with her and the other show(s) on my own.

I had great GA experiences with the Elevation tour. :applaud:

I waited outside all day, but that got me into the heart. And for someone like me, who only went to about 4 or 5 shows (I think two were GA), that was just right.

While I understand U2 not wanting to see the "same faces" all the time, the lottery system made it impossible for me to enjoy a GA show.

And who are we really kidding here? The same faces were up front all the time last tour too. lol

i will agree with this. it took a lot of the fun out of it. if i do go with GA this time around, i'm not going to waste my time by getting there that early. either i'll luck out and be really close up, or i'll just enjoy the view from the back. luckily, i've had enough experiences with being in arms reach of the band that it won't be a huge disappointment for me if i'm further away for this one. plus, if it's a huge spectacle, it might not hurt to be further away.

I feel your pain...I'll most likely be missing the show--going to a wedding that day too...although not in the wedding...it's my husband's cousin...can't really bail. or can I? :reject:

I most likely would (depends on finances at the time).

Why?

I went to GA in Boston last tour - twice. One time the "cheap" GA tickets were so tough to find, I wound up paying close to $225 per ticket anyway! And my friend and I had to work, so we didn't get there until late. They didn't even scan us to see if we got in the oval! So for that money, were were way in back in GA.

Then in Chicago, I waited outside all day. I didn't get into the oval. I was early though and got a spot very close to the railing (those were taken up FAST!). As the show went on, short people complained they couldn't see and kept asking if they could go in front of me. I got news for all the "height challenged" people - get to the fricking show early if you have GA. :madwife: Don't ask someone who has waited outside to "move" because you were unable to dedicate the time. If I do that again, be prepared to hear "f*ck off!" if you ask. But I digress. Being on the rail sucked. It was ridiculously hot, no room, constant pushing and my feet were killing me.

In Ireland I had GA again. I waited all day in the drizzling rain. The oval was big, so I was able to get in. But it was SO big that while a great view, I hardly was up front. And of course, slackers snuck in and pushed and pushed and pushed their way close to the front. I was about 6 "rows" of people from the stage when the concert started. Without moving, I shifted to about 12 "rows" of people by the time the concert was at the half-way point.

So, let's see... $250 for a "ticket vendor" GA ticket where I might not even get scanned for the lottery and if I do, not get into the "heart" or "oval" and then be pushed and shoved all day, or $250 for an actual seat where I'm not waiting all day and can relax, yet get just as good of a view. :hmm:

Do what you want, but I know where I'm going.

My experience during the last tour nearly mirrored yours, which is why I will never buy another U2 GA ticket as long as they have that horseshit worthless lottery system.

I bought GA tickets for 3 separate shows during Elevation tour, got there early and got in the heart THREE times and had the time of my life. The last tour I went 0-2. NEVER AGAIN!

I'm doing what Dr. Who did on the last tour THIS time around; I'm buying a seat. Seats are always better in a stadium anyway because you can see the video displays better and find your way to the bathrooms and concessions. Think about it, do you really want to be on the floor of a football stadium when you have to pee?

I also had great experiences during Elevation. Waited all day outside the shows in Albany and Buffalo, both times getting into the heart. I went to two other shows that tour and though I had GA for one and seats for the other, those two shows in the heart were just awesome. I had GA once for Vertigo, in Milwaukee. Didn't get into the ellipse. The lottery system was a disaster in my opinion.

I was on the fence about going back to Barcelona, but if it's really the last week in June it's probably a done deal for me considering I'll have July 3rd as a company holiday so would only have to use 4 vacation days to spend a week in Spain.

Other than that I'll be really thrilled if they do, Dallas or Houston or both, Miami, DC, Boston, New York and Las Vegas, those would be definate stops for me, more so if the shows are Fridays & Saturdays.

OMG, Monday can't come soon enough!!

Seems like many people's disdain of the lottery system is based on the fact that they didn't get in the ellipse. I went to many shows on both the Elevation and Vertigo tours, got into the heart / ellipse a few times on each tour. I had just as much fun when I didn't get in. During the Vertigo tour when I didn't get in because of the lottery, was I disappointed? Maybe a little. Was I bitter and unable to have a good time? Absolutely not. A few shows I decided to hang out back by the sound board, and those were some of the best. I think it's nice that everyone basically had a fair chance with the lottery, and I am sure the band appreciates looking at a different excited face now and then. Although I met some terrific people in those all-day GA lines, the part that wasn't fun was the arguments I witnessed and the unofficial "line police" telling people where they were allowed to sit (fortunately I wasn't ever personally involved with either of those things).

If it’s a true “lottery”, why should it matter when you show up? With Vertigo tour they seemed to fill the ellipse, then close it off early on even though people with GA’s were still coming in.

In Vegas I skipped the opening act, walked in about 8:45 PM without a line, and got scanned into the ellipse. But I digress, as all this is probably better left for another thread. Sorry to steer this more off topic. Back to the "Kiss the Future" or "U2360" or whatever the hell this tour's going to be called. :D

For me, it wasn't about getting in. Sure I was disappointed but I had shown up early enough to get a decent spot outside the ellipse. I guess for Elevation, it was nice to know I was going to get in or had a great shot at getting in because I was waiting outside the whole time. just seems that if people are willing to wait outside in line all day, then scan them in. but you have a point...line "police" were aggravating and it wasn't a perfect system.

ok back to the new tour :reject:

if there are 10K GA for each show, will that many people fit on the field? If so, then I don't think it'll be too difficult to get GA when tickets go on sale (knock on wood) if there's a 2 ticket limit like in the past

Not a terrible name for the tour, but "Fuck The Past Tour", with U2 performing NLOTH in its entirety to start each show, would have been preferable, if a completely fantasy on my part.
