[U2.com] In London, Shooting A Video

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Another vote for Godley in the video department. Corbijn was a letdown with ES imo (and if they scrapped whatever they were doing in Spain it doesn't look good either). U2 really doesn't need a "let's have a band member make out with a hot young actress" Bon Jovi/Aerosmith type of video.

Interesting------it looks like they've tried to recreate some of the Morocco feel, at least with the rug (check out my sig).

I can't imagine that they were successful enough at doing so. The setup they had in Fez seemed like it might be a better place to work and be creative. I don't know if I could get motivated working in that studio above. Seems like too much shit everywhere and too open. I tend to prefer more cozy and warm spots to intice inspiration to emerge. :D

Heres the pic.... Cameraphone image of a well folded newspaper but you get the idea!

And no, I can't make out anything that's written on the music stand in the foreground - just pixellated dots...! hehe

Due to a lack of a better image (no offense MrBTH :D), I took this into an image editor and did some work, making the colors a bit more saturated and vivid.

It's probably a continuation of their set-up they had in Morocco but it's quite common for bands to have Persian style rugs on the floor due to the type of flooring in the studio. A lot of older places having wood floors as well and carpeting like that is easily moveable as well it's key feature is masking noise that a wood floor would give away and it's something to put expensive equipment on.

They've also used carpets before....in the Beautiful Day video.

They also used the carpet setup for a while during their promo tour for ATYCLB.

I'm just curious...
1 - If clip#3 is the "new" sound or "more traditional" sound for U2
2 - do we hear "Vertigo" or "Native Son" version of the song in clip#3
:hmm:

1 Doesn't sound "traditional" to me. The way the voices are layered in the chorus seems like something U2 doesn't normally do.
2 Neither

Apologies all for the quality of the pic!! :reject:

I'll try scanning and stitching it when I have time - but the original isn't particularly sharp itself given that it's on newsprint.

I think whats really cool is that one of the better newspapers in the UK has given over it's "eyewitness" slot to a picture of U2. It can only be because the publicity machine is about to kick into gear bigtime!

yeah, I know, but I just mean what if "Native Son" was recorded by someone outside of the studio as a beach clip and then we would get "Vertigo" on an album, that would be a big surprise (it's probably a good thing it never happened, hehe)... and I'm just wondering what if clip#3 is not the final version... Interference will be like

I think you guys will find this amusing this little rant was posted in the "Letters" section of today's Guardian newspaper regarding the U2 studio shot above

I think we can take it that the Health and Safety Executive sent someone immediately to Olympic Studios after seeing your photograph of U2 at work (Eyewitness, December 12). I have never seen so many trip hazards in one room. Furthermore, I am not sure there is a clear path to the fire exit from the drum kit enclosure. And is that a coffee mug sitting on top of electrical equipment?

I'm guessing that NONE of the beach clips or any other old leaked clips are the final versions due to the fact that they decided to go back and rework the songs and come up with a couple more new ones. I'm sure some are similar, but the end products will probably differ in some way shape or form from what was leaked.

OMG I live in Putney and Barnes/Olympic Studios is about 5 mins walk from my house!!

Does anyone know if the band are still there recording? I might bust down there this afternoon and see what I can see.

Can't believe that U2 are making their album in my 'hood!!!

They can't change #1, please, please no!! Any of the others I wouldnt mind but #1 is like my favourite piece of music bar none at the moment even in with all the background noise and stuff...!

(PS I actually dreamt about this song a couple of nights ago... It was the first song on the album and it had a really long, weird ambient intro... :hmm:)
