[RUMOUR] Hmv: No Line On The Horizon - Release date: 23-2-2009

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
i see this as a strong possibility with the exception of stadiums in the US. I don't see them doing these at all in the US. IMO it's not economically feasible for them now as it may have been in the past.

I don't think so.. I just don't see them selling out stadiums in the US. A couple of markets maybe (ie Chicago, NYC and LA but that's it) so if they do the first leg as stadiums it's not going to make them money like arenas do (mulitiple nites). Unless they intermix those markets I mentioned with arenas then it's doable IMO.

If U2 do a European arena tour and don't play an entire month at the O2, I will be seriously mad at them

Stadiums for Europe please!

Wow, it's amazing how quick you are with your opinion on this title, considering that it has been around for months now.

He was too busy dancing around shirtless in front of his mirror wearing a big blonde wig with Chinese Democracy playing in the background, somehow convinced that Slash was actually involved.

i would normally agree with you on this, due to several factors...i.e., the economy, gas prices, ticket prices, etc.

however, some of those people i know, (which you were skeptical towards in another thread) have close friends on U2's crew. if i can believe my friends (which i do) the regular U2 crew have been told to have their bags packed in may, and all the rest, stadiums for US, etc.

now, don't everyone get worked up over this, but supposedly it would be stadiums in more major markets 1st leg, like LA, NY, Chicago,, DC, etc. skipping the smaller markets like San Diego, Minneapolis, etc til 3rd leg. this is what they've been told. we all know how things go, and that they may change at any moment. but i waited a while to say anything on here to see if the feb album release looked like it was gonna prove true. since it has, i think it's very safe to say that if feb/beginning of march happens as a release date that the rest will probably prove true as well. :hmm:

No Line On The Horizon ???
another lame long name.

Well it is sort of irritating that they can't seem to stay away from these long titles anymore....BUT, regardless, this really is a beautiful title that flows much better than the previous "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," which is pretty much the worst title of any U2 record to date...

In this case, I think I'd be pretty happy with "No Line On the Horizon" ...I love the imagery that it seems to trigger every time I say the line or think about it...

On another note, I'd probably be even happier if the album was a short title that works, like "The Joshua Tree," and then the lead single or one of the singles was given the name "No Line On the Horizon"...that would be even cooler....

It's a beautiful phrase, but I think it would be even more effective as the title to a single instead of the title to the album and the single...sort of like JT...the single is "Where the Streets Have No Name" and the album is "The Joshua Tree"....makes much more sense to me

I like the title, No Line On The Horizon. I like the imagery it conjures up and how it could possibly have another meaning to it relating to their career. I am optimistic that this will be an album experience and not just a collection of songs, partly due to this title. I could be wrong but... I could also be right. Anyway, it is much better than the unnecessarily tedious How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb or the seemingly bland Love Is All We Have Left. All said and done, these are only titles. If the music is good, nothing else matters!

 arse kissing? Nah, I think 'most' people on here just generally like the band? I don't know. Seems like an unheard of concept to me.

I actually think that Unknown Caller would make an excellent album title...

U2: Unknown Caller

It sounds good, it's snappy, evocative, mysterious, hinting at something fresh and innovative like it's U2 but you've no idea what to expect when you start to listen. It would definitely be a great "reinvention" title. For me "No Line..." is a lovely phrase but it sounds really conservative and very much in the recent U2 album naming tradition. I'd rather have a clean break!

Totally agree. It's a great song title and even better album name. No Line is nice for a song but not so much for an album. But I'd guess Bono is very attached to the image and he would want it to be the name of the album even if it doesn't sound that fantastic.

I appreciate you opinion and input. But for me I'll believe it when I see it. As I stated I don't see how they would do a whole first leg all stadiums with no arenas mixed in. I mentioned nyc, la and chicago as the markets that they could do stadium shows in but not DC (i live in this area) they won't sell this one out here IMO not these days when it's really close to nyc.

No line on the horizon is a very atmospheric title that brings with it ideas of nature and landscapes, and if the music is like beach clip 4, it will be totally fitting. Also, don't forget the idea of two parts called "Sea" and "Sky". I love the title, it's not a question of how long it is.

But Edge said it could still change. So maybe "Unknown Caller" still has a chance to be the album's title. I think it would make a cool title, however, it doesn't have the atmosphere and feel that NLOTH has. If the music is epic, NLOTH would be the better title.

"Unknown Caller"

=

"My cell is ringin'
no ID
I need to know who's callin'."

:hmm:

All this title talk is getting really inspiring and evocative

Ooooh Oooooh, there's no spinach on my quiche
No cheese between the air and dough...

Corn Muffins, deserve a quiet night...

The day Shaun Vox actualy says something positive about U2 is the day we will ALL win the lottery. Ie the chances of that are very damn close to zero LOL! Sometimes I wonder why he wastes his time in a U2 forum if he appears to dislike them so much!

i agree completely.

No Line On the Horizon is a great title; seriously what would make it perfect is a cover picture with none of the band on it. That Sea and Sky video really made me want a cover just like that.

I agree, if you replace "says something positive about U2" with "says something coherent."

Earlier I stated that I don't think NLOTH will be the album title...I gotta confess that was mostly wishful-thinking on my part. I just feel it will be pretty damn anti-climactic when it's announced that No Line On The Horizon is the name of the album. The title has been around for almost a year now so it's gonna be a bit of a ho-hum moment if that's what it turns out to be. I just think it'd be cooler if they hit us with something completely off the wall that we've never heard of.

That being said, does it really matter what the album is called? No. But a piece of me will be disappointed if it really is NLOTH. Alright, thanks for letting me type out my pointless post...I'm gonna go watch football now!
