ho·ri·zon:
The visible line at which the sky and Earth appear to meet.
The apparent junction of earth and sky.

Given this definition, the title 'NO LINE on the Horizon' is the latest evidence that points to Bono's seriously declining songwriting skills.

Yeah, I think they might be aware and are aiming for some sort of irony/contradiction in their title...

wanna hear about my Jump To Conclusion Mat?

No Line On the "apparent junction of earth and sky"

What's wrong with that? It makes perfect sense! I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with that. I don't understand why people are trying to create some kind of controversy here when there is absolutely nothing wrong with the phrase.

"Gibson explorer: wtf ' I am the walrus' ? Walruses cant talk. John lennon has gone right down hill. "

vaz, that's hardly a comparison. We all knew what Lennon was on when he was writing songs. Bono's just high on his supposed lyrical skills.

If I recall the story, Bono said how he was looking out into the ocean and it appeared the sky and water blended into one - thus, there was no horizon. It's an illusion of course, but makes for an intriguing thought and title.

Therefore, for you to declare this as "seriously declining" either means one of two things:

1) You are joking; :sexywink:

2) You are serious, which is sad as that means you have no comprehension of allegory or abstract thought.

I opt for #1, as #2 is clearly not right.

Of course, the irony of #1 is that your own joke is rather poorly written and quite a stretch. Seriously declining skills indeed! :applaud:

stupid Bono doesn't pay his taxes. i've also heard that he eats babies, which is further proved by his lyrics in the song "Miracle Drug". he also does all of his activist work to be in the spotlight more because he's egotistic. and did you hear he yelled at a fan at a concert because he was on his cell phone? like OMG!!!1111

Hoodlem, try the first definition: "No Line on the Line...."

if we're going to get technical...
the line is the perceived intersection of the land/sea and sky, yes, we can both agree on that. if you are to look to the horizon, and there is none visibly apparent to you, does that mean the line doesn't exist? no, because the divide still exists. there's a line, just no visible to your eye. thus to you, there's no line on the horizon. the horizon is still there however.

or not... really, does this even matter? the title is evocative. which seems to me the point of art. fuck the rules of language

Give me a break. A word only has to meet one definition to work, not all definitions, otherwise very little would make sense.

Hmm, let's see: "The spider walked along its web". That makes no sense, how can a spider walk along its network or radio or television broadcasting stations?

Perfect example of think before you post.

Actually, if you can't see a line, then there is NO horizon. A horizon is the visible line. No visible line = no horizon.

What the fuck does it matter? Aren't you gonna at least wait to see the lyrics before bashing his songwriting skills??? Unbelievable.

I cant believe you have started slagging of bono's new lyrics and you havent even heard them yet. You pass scorning judgement on a song title .

Both definitions I've given are the same, related. The first one, you can wrap your mind around easier. "No line on the line" = "No line on the apparent junction" = "No line on the horizon". They're all the same phrase.

Actually, if you can't see a line, then there is NO horizon. A horizon is the visible line. No visible line = no horizon.

horizon, in astronomy, roughly circular line bounding an observer's view of the surface of the earth where the sky and earth seem to meet. This is the visible horizon. At sea the visible horizon is a perfect circle with the observer at its center, but on land it is irregular due to topographic features. The distance to the horizon varies as the square root of the observer's elevation for small elevations; at four times the height the distance to the horizon is twice as great. The celestial horizon, the principal axis in the altazimuth coordinate system, lies halfway between the observer's zenith and nadir. In geology horizon refers to sedimentary deposits of a certain period, usually marked by characteristic fossils.
