So I guess Bono is gonna have the short hair look this time...

Seems like the POP hairdo (or a similar version anyway) is this album's style. I'm not sure I like it so much. (Yeah yeah, I'm a guy and this ain't PLEABA or whatever it's called, but this is part of the whole package and it's up for discussion).
Anyway, I'm not into the shaved, or nearly shaved sides, and the poofy top.
And, while we're at it, are we gonna have yet another round of colored shades? I'm tired of those as well.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, as I know all the women here will yell at me and the guys will question my sexuality, I'm just saying: the album's hype is starting, and Bono has had the same haircut for awhile now and it's 1997 all over again.

Ditch the shades, and grow the hair a bit.

Keep the shades...thats what makes the man. Who cares about the hair. Bono is a bit old to have long hair. The edge should try and grow his hair...now that would be funny.

well if he grew his hair out, it would be 2000-2005 all over again, right?

Actually if you think about it, he has had this hair for about a year and a half now if I remember correctly...and before then he had long hair for like 5 years or something...so I can't really say he's had this style for a long time...

his image now basically reminds me of the end of the vertigo tour..but i hope we see something a little more interesting out of Bono as far as the new rockstar stage image is concerned :)

 yes that would be funny...

but I disagree on the Bono with long hair thing, he honestly doesn't look any older now then he did at the start of the Vertigo Tour to me

Right after ATYCLB Bono aged a lot. His hair is thinner so it really doesnt look great when its long compared to the Joshua Tree Days. I like the Irish cap look with no glasses - like at that sarajevo performance..that would fit his age more today.

Ditch the sunglasses...wear a cap..old man. Its time to concentrate on your singing again so ditch the co-exist bandana, the rose sunglasses, the tight black clothes and channel your energies into that voice of yours.

Well, Bono always says that the music tells him what clothes to wear and how to wear your hair so maybe it's short hair music. But actually it's looking like he might be starting to let it grow a little cause he hasn't shaved it down lately. We'll see over the next few months but if he lets it grow now while it won't necessarily be long by the time the tour starts it could be like the early Elevation tour length.

Agreed. I've always been fond of that look on Bono, and he simply can't pull off the JT mane anymore because his hair is thinning out.

PS: This thread should be in PLEBA. No question about it.

He's got plenty of time from now until next March to come up with a suitable look. I think the short hair was just a in the meantime look. I think youre pretty close in the shadeless longer hair wish. I think the shades are over with. Epecially since he still wears the same vertigo style ones. I think he's just sticking with them right now so that when U2 reemerges his look will be more dramatic a change.

well obviously he shouldn't go back to JT hair, but vertigo/elevation/zootv hair would be easy to pull off IMO

The hair before was this hideous ironed look. He could easily try something new. Im personally hoping for a Across the universe inspired look. Especially if the new album is trippy and psychedelic.

Dear God, no. I don't want Bono ever acquiring a porn 'stache with zero irony involved.

yeah

that would be a SERIOUS mistake...umm...i'm thinking though about what he could possibly do with a new rockstar image....he's pretty much done everything I can think of.....

I cannot believe this discussion is taking place! What does Bono's hair have to do with the new album? Why is no one discussing Larry's or Adam's hair?
Or why Edge isn't ditching his beanie? Bono without his shades - no way. The shades are his trademark, he's not Bono without them. He sure loves his (Red) shades recently, they look good on him. And the hair is just right, I like this look, and I agree that the long hair looked a bit ridiculous and made him look older, because he was thinning a lot and kind of bold under this long hair. He looks more dynamic right now.

well...it would be even cooler if their was some sort of theme that resulted from the new music and spread throughout the entire band...now that would be awesome...like Popmart...but we're discussing Bono mainly because he is the one that changes the most from tour to tour, and he is the true showman of the band! But since you mention it, if Larry goes back to longer hair I'll begin to question his sanity...and well, for Adam....he doesn't really change at all...with his POSHNESS and static hair style....As far as overall tour/stage persona, I'm thinking he will be more vocal in interviews possibly, but more than that, I'll expect more passion from him on stage, I sense a gradual trend for him...he seems to be getting more and more into the music with each tour...and with these new "Adam Videos" that he makes teasing the fans , he just seems more into everything....we'll see :)

oh yeah and maybe some more dancing on stage, especially in the streets!

Because Bono's image has changed with every album and if this album is going to be a major departure his image will mostly likely be too.

Given his age, I think Bono's hair is fine. Over 80% of men (and many women) have some degree of hair loss in their lives (so get ready for it, all you young pups!). However, even if Bono had retained his 1987 JT era mane, he'd look ridiculous with it now. A man nearing 50 should not have a pony tail. A little while ago, I posted a pic of Geddy Lee - a musician I really do like - but whose hairline has receeded a bit, yet he wears his hair long. And I thought, "This is exactly how Bono would look if he tried to do his JT hair again." It wasn't a pretty site.

As for short hair, I've always liked how Bono's hair looked at that K-Mart concert before the PopMart tour or in the "Beautiful Day" video. I detest that ugly green Castro-esque hat (why won't Ali burn that thing?).

But whatever - it's about the music. As long as he doesn't shave his head again (like he did late in the PopMart tour), it's all good. :)

He does look like his Pop era image - very short hair, the military hat, less shades (Union Chapel performance).

I think his 2000-onwards long hair only worked in photo shoots or videos. Once it got sweaty and wet during the show, it looked bad. He can't do long hair anymore well, and he's had the long hair for the most part anyway. It seems after Pop like he wears his hair either too long or too short and insists on the ageing quasi beard - next to JT and AB my favourite look was, and he could use it still, no shades or beard early All that.../BD/ES video haircut.

The only reason people start losing their hair is because of blood flow to their follicles, or rather the lack there of. Its not genetics, thats just marketing bullshit to get you to buy snake oil when all anyone ever had to do was loosen up the skin on top of their head through massages. Once youre able to pinch the skin up there you should see far fewer hairs on your comb. It takes time but it works like a charm. You can tell by looking at bald guys' scalp. looks like the skin is about to split its so tight. You can tell by looking at them where the bloodflow would be constricted. When someone with a full head of hair shaves their scalp it looks supple. I think the tightness comes from facial expressions of the forehead and working up those muscles which is why they say stress causes it. If youre going bald, try it. Youll be pleasantly surprised at the results if you keep at it. Once youre too old and have lost enough though Id imagine the follicles lost are a little past their ability to regrow anything though. Its good to start early.
