I wonder what it was like before we human beings tainted the pristine ocean waters of the world.
I wonder what it was like before we started dumping into the gutters of our city streets engine oil, detergent and bug poisons, which in turn are washed into the sea by rain.
I wonder what it was like before waste treatment plants were thought of or needed. Before thousands of gallons of treated waste was piped into the sea, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, all around the world. Oh, I know treated waste is better than raw sewage?.. but what about before we pumped any waste into the ocean? What was the water like then?
I wonder what it was like before nuclear power plants like the one at San Onofre, CA were using sea water as a coolant, and piping the warmed water back out to sea, back into an ecosystem that did just fine without artificially warmed water?
I wonder what it was like when Seal Beach, California was actually covered with seals? I?ve never seen a seal on that beach. From what I?ve read there haven?t been seals on that beach in several decades.
I wonder what it was like when the fishing was good off the coast of Southern California?
I wonder what it was like when you could go swimming at Santa Monica Bay, California, and not fear you were going to get sick, or that you were swimming in chemicals?
I wonder what it was like when various beaches throughout SoCal weren?t frequently closed due to being to contaminated with bacteria from rain runoff, said runoff containing fertilizer, animal waste, and all that crap from the city streets that I mentioned earlier.
I wish I could go body surfing at Huntington Beach and feel like I wasn?t swimming in tainted water. In polluted water.
I wish I could go fishing off the beach at Hermosa.
Oh well, next Spring I go surfing in Costa Rica -- at least I have that to cheer me up. Is the water still clean there?
