Both bands deal with religion, politics, "big themes" and have a passionate singer. The Minds guitar is very Edge-like too. And if you listen to New Gold Dream live from Glasgow 85 with the Bono duet it's hard to tell who's singing what... Kerr and Bono have a very similar sounding live singin voice.
Coldplay and Radiohead (Bends Radiohead) too.
