iTunes shuffle recently played me 'When I Look At The World'. This is one of those U2 songs which I don't like at all, but then, I noticed that I actually really like Edge's guitar part around the 2:50 mark - and found myself a little regretful that it had been used in a song that is otherwise not so great (for me, at least).

so, are there any U2 songs in which you like perhaps only certain lyrics or certain parts of the melody and think that they seem out of place in terms of the rest of the song?

and the thread title was a little longer than I expected, but there you go ;)

I've always loved When I Look At The World so I definitely agree with the 2:30-2:50 guitar work.

As for my own ideas: In the middle of Grace I hear a second of a really good song from around 2:49 - 2:51 mark right before I start to hate the song again. It's hard to find too many "average songs", or ones that have moments of brilliance in them. But I think this little chord progression is pretty neat in Grace. Too bad the rest of the song was kinda....:|

I always loved the outro for the playboy mansion

from 3:40 till the end

Then will there be no time for sorrow?
Then will there be no time for shame?

That bit in 'If you wear that Velvet Dress' with Edges solo, you really do feel like your floating with the clouds when you listen to it, then you brought back down to earth when it goes back to the chorus of an ok if wishy-washy U2 song. But that solo....

that's what really gets me of MERCY...

that little Edge solo... is... insanely simple, yet totally amazing...

that part, right there, won my heart and I love that song to death

I totally agree about the When I Look at the World part.

Stuck in a Moment - the first two lines in the song and when Edge comes in.
Miami - when the guitar comes crushing it and Larry starts that funky beat.

And many more I can´t think of right now.

I don't particularly like Twilight but i do like the opening few bars, edges riff, adams bass slide and the building up of the drums. A really nice intro.

The rest of the song however :|

that solo at the end of "the ground beneath her feet" when it just explodes

 Definately.

The one line in When I look at the World that totally changed my view of the song is "when there's all kind of chaos"...no idea what it is...but that line won me over.

And, even tho NYD is now an ancient song, even now during Edge's solo in the middle I'm reminded of just how perfect a bit of music that is...Edge, Adam & Larry all totally in tune with each other (no pun intended)

I enjoy the breakdown / middle eight in Love You Like Mad:

Don't worry baby, if you're in the spotlight
I'll do the maximum time... for you tonight
You know that we're not crazy
Well maybe just a touch
Some sweet delight, a sugar rush
And some kisses cost too much

And I wish the song was better. The same thing with Are You Gonna Wait Forever:

There's no one there behind their eyes
They're in the business, beautiful lies
We'll keep the promise
'Cause we don't know how to break it
The furniture you can rearrange
Don't trade your dreams for some small change
Guard the flame, or better leave it naked
