Early on I read that you should move your arm around after getting the shot to lessen the soreness Will have to check do you wait a while, or start right away.

So tragic a reason but a searingly apt phrase.

And now we have three vaccines. Looks like this latest one is on par with the other two once you reach a month out

We need to be get our shit together now before the UK and South Africa variants dominate. We have only a month before models predict they’ll take over

Keep a close eye on Minnesota's numbers. The Brazil variant was found there several days ago.

Anything to share ? I feel like I’ve been keeping up with certain scientists / doctors and it hasn’t really come up much.

We know the South African mutation has caused some vaccine trouble but companies believe a booster should help (the J&J showed 100% no severe reaction after 48 days)

The U.K. and South Africa strains have generated both the most coverage and the most research, but the most concerning may be the Brazilian one, also called P.1. In the Amazonian city of Manaus, where antibodies had been previously estimated in 76 percent of the population, there has been a horrifying and deadly dramatic second wave, right in the middle of Brazilian summer in a place believed to have developed a quite robust community immune protection and perhaps true herd immunity. A new “Comment” published Wednesday in the Lancet surveys what we know about the Manaus variant, and offers four possible explanations for what has happened there. None of them are good. Three are quite terrifying.

Ah yes P1, and thank you for this. I do remember reading about the four scenarios.

I believe it’s shown up in Japan and China as well ?

I’m sure it’s here too. There’s also a SoCal mutation but not much is known about it yet

I live in Iowa. Knowing that variant is so close by has me very nervous.

I think the only thing we have going for ourselves here is that the previous outgoing administration did such an awful job with this thing that all of the varients have likely already been here for a while and we haven't seen anything like that region in Brazil yet.

This is optimistic me speaking. Pessimistic me is on vacation.

As a Brazilian, a note of caution: very hard to separate the supposedly increased infection rate of the virus as found in the northern states from the utter incompetent federal and local response, which made the situation profoundly worse, including by lack of decisive action in areas that would curb the spread. So I’d wait for real data before worrying too much.

Yea I find it near impossible that these varients aren't already here in big numbers, and/or that we have our own mutations that haven't been tracked by the previous group of bumbling idiots.

I think we’ll know for sure by end of February. If these mutations are just now taking hold we’ll see the growth

But if our utter incompetence has allowed these bugs here sooner than it could mean we are closer to the light at the end of the tunnel.

It could explain why CA numbers kept blowing up despite the shutdown in November. Holiday travel may be the other explanation too
