Hello Ashley!

Well I teased you on Friday with the promise of exciting news coming your way today, and I hope this newsletter doesn't disappoint because today, at last, we are announcing the brand new Erasure album and tour!

Due to what I must politely refer to as 'human error' the UK dates were announced elsewhere earlier today and went viral, apologies for that, it was all beyond the control of myself, the band, the band's management or Mute, but I do hope this newsletter will clarify everything...

Please can I also ask that you read this newsletter, and the online FAQ, carefully before emailing me with questions, just to check that you're not asking something I've already answered, thank you!

ERASURE ANNOUNCE 'THE VIOLET FLAME' ALBUM AND TOUR
The new Erasure album will be called 'The Violet Flame' and will be released on September 22nd (that's the UK release date, it will be September 19th in some parts of Europe, and September 23rd in the USA). The standard edition of 'The Violet Flame' - Erasure's sixteenth studio album - will feature ten tracks and the first single (more on that a little closer to the time) will be released as a one-track in July when it goes to radio, and then as a full single in September. 'The Violet Flame' was recorded in New York and London and is produced by Richard X.

Phew! That's already a lot of information to absorb... I expect you'd probably like to sit back and take it all in, and perhaps have a sneaky listen to an extract from one of the tracks from 'The Violet Flame' wouldn't you? Well, here's a little video trailer for the project that does just that...

But if that news wasn't enough, Andy and Vince will also be taking 'The Violet Flame' on the road with concerts in North America, the UK, Ireland, Germany and Denmark announced today, with the full list of shows below:

Cool.

I'm surprised they are putting out another album so soon after Snow Globe.

So, I heard the first Stiff Little Finger's album last night. Previously the only song I knew by them was "Tin Soldiers". I didn't love the debut, but it was good. I was hoping it would sound more like Tin Soldiers, though. So, I'm wondering (I suppose this is directed at IWB), does the second album sound generally like the first, or more like that particular track?

Overall, I'd say yeah nobody's heroes would probably appeal to you more if what you didn't love about inflammable material was stuff like law and order, or white noise, rough trade, Johnny was, the less melodic and more abrasive. If that's the difference, then yes. I'd stack alternative ulster, wasted life, and barbed wire love up against their catchiest songs (three of my favorite songs ever). But there is something distinctively poppier about tin soldiers, at the edge, fly the flag, wait and see, and really the bulk of that album.

I love both albums equally. Tin Soldiers is a song that's unfortunately been tainted for me by too many covers (or maybe because I was mostly disappointed by the bosstones' cover). It was never my favorite to begin with, and why it would be their most covered (at least in my experience) has always been something of a mystery to me. I did see someone cover barber wire love once, but it wasn't good enough for me to remember who covered it.

I have been reluctant to check out this new one, though. I enjoyed guitar and drum for a variety of reasons I don't particularly know how to put into words, but it's not the kind of album that makes me want to hear more new (well, shit, guitar & drum was 10 years ago already, but it's still not original SLF). It's like, g&d is too catchy to hate, but the kind of album you really don't want more of. I figured they (or at least Jake Burns) were done, but was apparently wrong. That being said, I would go to the Bad Religion/Pennywise/Offspring show in Boston if SLF were playing. Sadly, they join up for the show literally after that, and I'd be stuck with The Vandals. Bad Religion isn't quite enough to get me out to the House of Blues*, I've seen pennywise plenty, and the offspring can take smash and shove it up their asses. But SLF + Bad Religion would have been.

Mogwai wasn't enough to get me to make that drive and endure that venue, erasure won't be either.

Stupid iPhone app has been crashing all day, every time I try to open a thread.

I just noticed that. I am bored enough at work to be here via web browser...hence any typos from my SLF post that autocorrect may have caused.

I'm more surprised it took this long to get a tour announcement, that was supposedly supposed to be imminent around the time Snowglobe was released. I'm not surprised about the new album, because they finished recording Snowglobe ages before it was released and...let's face it, it was just a Christmas album.

I love the music in the teaser video, I'm pretty excited for more.

Awesome, I'll give it a listen, then, sounds like I'll enjoy it.

I did listen to their new album (was why I listened to their debut first. Only a minor Cobblering). It's most certainly not essential and it's not exactly great, but it's poppy and fun. There is one song on it, though, that I'd almost swear they stole from Starship and that MIGHT make you vomit your eyes out.

You're not gonna see Erasure? :(

I considered going to see erasure for about 30 seconds. Really.

Eventually I'll buy a copy of the new SLF. if I can love the title track off guitar & drum, I can't see anything off the new one making my wars vomit, but we shall see.

Why, is fartbarf opening for them?

My phone autocorrects fartbarf to dartboard.

Only in my dreams :(

(But seriously, I have been waiting to see Erasure for about 5 or 6 years now. I missed them on their last tour and got into the band right after the tour before that.)

gifs?

listened to the 1st suicidal tendencies album for the first time in forever. i love that shit, but all west coast hardcore ever makes me want to do is listen to the vastly superior stuff from the east coast.

I really enjoy the new Little Dragon album. Very sleek and atmospheric, but the vocals drip with soul. I get a Jessie Ware vibe from this one.

Finally sold my Governors Ball ticket. Cost me $285 Australian and I got $245 for it so I'm pretty happy, given I couldn't use stubhub. It's money that I crucially fucking need at the moment. Gonna be a looooooong time before my head's above water again, but it was still sooooooooo worth it.

Sold my p4k tix today for face, so I'm happy. The money is going directly towards FYF so it kinda pisses me off because it's the same price of one less day.
