Has anyone been to the Valley of Fire?

I think I've been to Vegas almost 30 times, and that is one thing I haven't done.

I did the Liberace Museum last time though. AWESOME!!!

Mark

Valley of Fire is absolutely gorgeous. A definite must see. It's about 50 minutes from the strip. PM me if you are interested in seeing pics I took the last time I was out there.

Stratopshere and Sahara hotels? Opinons?

I've stayed at both places many times and had no complaints. FYI, they're on the far end of the strip, but Sahara has a monorail stop (the monorail is the best thing Vegas has done in a long time, imo). Also make sure you ask for a renovated room. They do have some cheaper tables if you gamble too.

Thanks.

So is the South-Center Strip the better part of the strip to stay at overall? Overall consensus seems to be that the North side is shady.

I'm looking and there don't seem to be any afternoon flights to Boston, only late evening. This wouldn't be a problem if checkout wasn't at 11 AM. :banghead:

Probably, but it's also more expensive. As far as the north end, as long as you stay on the strip and don't venture too far away it's no big deal. That part of town is older and a bit more run down. Sahara is fine - they've done some remodeling, have a really nice pool, and probably the easiest access of any casino to the monorail, which gets you to the south end in a few minutes - faster than a cab. If you desire to be where the "action" is, then yeah, the south end is it - but be prepared to spend more and it's more crowded. If you do decide on Sahara or Strat, keep an eye on this site:
Las Vegas Monorail - Home
1 day pass is $12, 3 day pass is $28 (beats the hell out of the price of taxis), but they always run specials too - last spring/summer they had a buy one get one free deal.

I've stayed all over Vegas and will give any advice I can. Here are a couple of great resources for rooms:

Online Coupons | Cash Back - FatWallet.com - go to the forum under travel deals. There is a thread all about Vegas hotel deals

Priceline and Hotwire Forum - if you ever used Priceline or Hotwire, this site attempts to let you know what hotel you're going to get before you bid/purchase. They are usually right. :D

Just found a US airways flight that leaves Vegas at 7:30 AM on October 25th.

That could work. I'll probably still be up.

Just stay later, check your bag with the hotel and hit the town for one last hurrah! We do it all the time in Vegas. But honestly, I wouldn't book airfare yet. Follow it on Yapta or Farecast and they'll tell you if the price goes down.

Def south center. You won't go wrong at places like Excalibur (ask for newly remodeled Wide screen rooms), MGM, Luxor, etc.... There are fantastic deals out there. PM me if you are interested in any of them.

I'm not booking anything yet. Lack of funds FTW. Just looking around right now.

If I may add my 2 cents about booking hotel/airfare to Vegas....

As a person who has been to Vegas about 10 times (once for PopMart!) and learned the hard way once or twice, I would like to offer some suggestions to those who are looking to book a trip out there.

a. Don't book a package deal, it will end up costing you less if you book your airfare and hotel separate. If you book your hotel separate, you can track the prices, and call them if you find something cheaper and have them adjust it. You can't do that if you book a package deal through places like Expedia.

b. Sign up to be on the mailing lists for hotels you are interested in staying at. They will send you email specials. I booked a room at Excalibur for wed/thur/fri, checking out on Saturday for a total of $157. If you go with 2 or more people, that can be split up and will be dirt cheap.

c. Continuously look at hotels prices even after you book it. As I mentioned above, if the price goes down and you booked direct through the hotel, you can call them and have them adjust the price for you. I've done this several times and saved a lot of $$

I'm hoping to get tickets to Sam Boyd as well. I hope to be able to meet some of you while out there :)

This is absolutely the truth. Package deals can't be changed without penalties. Definitely look for hotel prices directly on the hotels' Web sites.

...and the usual hotel chains' Web sites.

ALWAYS GRAB CHEAP AIRFARE WHEN YOU SEE IT! Airfares tend to only go up in price. There may be some last-minute deals in Sept./early Oct., but you don't want to wait until then.

Mark---like I said, I've visited Vegas around 30 times in the last 12 years. The first couple of times I booked packages and found out later that I paid too much.

:hyper:eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! i was so afraid the presale would start the 17th! ill be at coachella. the 14th! AND its after payday!

Yahoo!

Thank God the wait is over! Planning begins now...

Anybody else planning on going out from San Diego? Are you flying/driving?
