it's almost as if U2songs is full of shitGuess that kills the Glorify RSD rumor, although that always seemed like an unusual way for them to premiere a new track.
Also this Atomic City cover is like 1000x better than the original.
Larry is not on board. Also this Atomic City cover is like 1000x better than the original.
here i am all excited about the record store day selection, only to come in here and see a bunch of debbie downers poo pooing it.
Always a grain of salt with them, although in fairness I just checked their article again and they didn't say anything about hearing it would be released for RSD, the bit about that was pure speculation on their part: "Crossing our fingers that this might be U2’s contribution to Record Store Day, which is due to be announced soon."it's almost as if U2songs is full of shit
Well the cover serves a different purpose, since it's a live recording. I'm not even saying it's an amazing cover, and even without Larry it's still monumentally better. It's just the original was really that bad. Maybe the worst cover for anything they've ever put out?Larry is not on board.
Seems to be charting decent I guess so they're riding the wave as much as they can. To be honest, the charts are kind of confusing to me with all the different formats so it's hard to gauge exactly where it's landing, but seems pretty good (but of course not top 100 good, but that's maybe too much to ask now).More remixes/alternative versions? They really do have a tendency to batter us over the head for really mediocre songs. It's almost as if they are forcing it to be a classic. See also Song For Someone and Get Out Your Own Way.
bro - it's a record store release and this is literally the only song they have out right now.More remixes/alternative versions? I think it’s a good-enough commemoration of this residency but of all the U2 releases in the catalog, I’m fine with Larry not being on this one… and I’m sure he is too. The song is a shrug. An idle observation: if you wanted to normalise the band continuing without its founder member/drummer, putting an image of a different drummer on the cover of an official release, on which the original drummer does not feature, would be a fairly good way to go about it...
I remember at one point reading Larry Mullen say that he was shocked when he heard that REM were quitting. (Sorry, I can't find the quote.) I wonder whether that changed his relationship with U2 - realising that it was possible for one of their contemporaries to simply walk away? And, of course, REM are a good example of a band whose drummer quit after health issues and were never quite the same again.I'm glad this whole Sphere-thing comes to an end pretty soon now. Knowing there's a u2 circus going on on the other side of the world is pretty disappointing. However the show is really great, I miss the spirit of the band once had. It's complete the opposite to the band around WAR , Unforgettable Fire, the time that I became a fan.
Releases are dull and things got shelved all the time.
We need new, inspiral songs and maybe no tour this time if Larry's not on board. Otherwise please stop, like REM did.
Fair enough. We all have different things that we want from music. Re-threading the same old path over and over is not for me.I would much rather REM be touring without making new music than, well, this.
I'm old. I don't need new anymore. I think the idea of them retiring from touring just because a few grumpy fans don't like their new material sucks.
They played some of the new music during his interview on Ruck Rubin's podcast recently. It sounds _quite_ different to REM.Still looking forward to this long rumoured Michael Stipe solo album
Plans change often in the U2 campit's almost as if U2songs is full of shit
Ok then. Here is what hus band mates had to say. It sounds like he loved playing. And played loads. And was reportedly wincing in pain the entire time
And later on in the exact same article that you apparently didn't scroll all the way to the end...Ok then. Here is what hus band mates had to say. It sounds like he loved playing. And played loads.
Reflecting on Mullen Jr laying down ‘Atomic City’ in LA, Bono said: “It’s really tricky for him. And he came in the night before we recorded it in Sound City. So many stories in that studio. And Edge wanted us to go there. And Larry went the night before to just make sure. He didn’t know if he could play for an hour or… he didn’t know if he could play for 15 minutes. And he just played up the storm.”
The Edge added: “John [Mullen Jr’s drum technician] was saying that he loved the sound of the room so much, he ended up playing for like three hours.”
Bono said: “It was the right place for us. And it took its toll on Larry. He’s miming. We’re doing the video and he’s like, ‘Ow.’

We have no worries. But I think there were a few chat threads back in the day that went on foooooreeeeever so you've got your work cut out for youSo do we not need to worry about threads with 1000+ posts now? Is this going to be the longest thread in the history of interference? Appropriate I suppose for the long ass gap between new studio albums from these guys.
Making history here folks.
I have faith in this band to keep us waiting. This thread has a chance! We have no worries. But I think there were a few chat threads back in the day that went on foooooreeeeever so you've got your work cut out for you
